What is early initiation of 

breasfeeding??

Early Initiation of Breastfeeding or

early breast-feeding started is infantsstart feeding by themselves-

immediately after birth and allowed to

skin contact with their mother's skin

for about 1 hour. How do infants early

initiation of breastfeeding this called

the breast crawl or crawl to find breast

(Roesli, 2008)

Benefit of IMD

• Saves lives

• Helps establish breastfeeding

• Fosters bonding between mother

and child

• Takes advantage of the newborn’s

intense suckling reflex and alertstate

• Reduces risk of mother’s

postpartum hemorrhage Recommended IMD

Here are the steps to do that is

recommended by Roesli IMD (2008), namely:

1. So the baby birth, put the baby on the

mother's abdomen which was covered

with a dry cloth

2. Allow it to dry baby's entire body

including the head as soon as possible

unless both hands

3. Cut and tied the umbilical cord

4. Verniks or white fatty substance which is

attached at the baby's body should not

be in the clear because this substancemakes comfortable baby's skin

5. Without on swaddling clothes, baby

directly in the prone in the chest or

abdomen mother with skin contact to the

mother’s. Mother and baby covered

together. If necessary, the baby was

given a hat to reduce heat expenditure

The following information regarding Early

Initiation of Breastfeeding (IMD) that

can encourage you to do IMD shortly

after your baby is born

1. Believe the baby can do this IMD by

themself

2. This is a very good early stage if you

want to give exclusive breastfeeding in

the first 6 months. Babies will love themilk and the mother will not be short to

give it. IMD also reduce pain when it

comes to breastfeeding.

3. Do not worry about your baby's chill

because without any clothes must be on

let for more than 1 hour to find the

mother's nipple. Because of the mother's

skin, perfectly warm to the baby. When

the baby feels chill, the mother's body

temperature will rise 2 degrees Celsius,while if the baby is too hot, the skin of

the mother will adjust by lowering the

temperature by 1 degree Celsius.

4. Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (IMD)

can boost immunity, thereby reducing the

infant mortality rate of newborn babies.

5. If the delivery has to go through the

process of Cesar, you can still do Early

Initiation of Breastfeeding (IMD),

although the possibility of success of

about 50% than normal deliveries.

6. IMD helps increase the bond between

mother and child.
