• Ball State is 16-5 (.762) in its last 21 MAC games dating back to 2012. Only Northern Illinois as more conference wins in that stretch.

• The Ball State offense ranks among the top five FBS offenses – along with Baylor, Duke, Oklahoma and Arizona – with the lowest percentage of negative plays over the last four years. (source: SportSourceAnalytics)

• The Cardinals were the least penalized team in the MAC last year. Ball State was whistled for 50 flags in 2014 for an average of 39.1 yards per game. This ranks among the top ten in the FBS over the last four years. (source: SportSourceAnalytics)

• Ball State returns its entire starting offensive line from 2014 as well as three of its four starting defensive linemen.

• The Cardinals will need to find a replacement for former running back Jahwan Edwards. He set program marks in career rushing yards (4,558), total touchdowns (51), rushing touchdowns (51), rushing attempts (884) and points (306). Edwards rushed for at least 1,000 yards in each of his final three seasons on the team.

• Ball State has four players on its roster who earned All-MAC accolades one year ago – senior WR KeVon Mabon, senior OL Jacob Richard, senior DT Darnell Smith and senior WR Jordan Williams. Richard is on the 2015 Rimington Trophy fall watch list and a nominee for the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

• The Cardinals ranked 17th nationally last year in turnover margin at +9. Ball State forced at least two turnovers in seven of its eight MAC games, including five against Central Michigan and Akron.

• Ball State is facing four opponents for the first time in program history this fall – VMI (Sept. 3), Texas A&M (Sept. 12), Northwestern (Sept. 26) and Georgia State (Oct. 17). The Cardinals have posted wins over schools from the ‘Power 5’ conferences three times in four years under head coach Pete Lembo including 4 wins versus former BCS.

The Fisher Training Complex lobby celebrates the proud tradition and history of Ball State football. MAC champion banners hang from the ceiling and professional Cards are featured.

In 2014, the Cardinals moved into a renovated locker room. The new space includes new lockers, new flooring, a new sectioned off area for halftimes and flat screen televisions.

The complex weight room features a glass wall overlooking the beautiful Schuemann Stadium. Weights and rehab equipment provide athletes the best gear to succeed.

CARDINAL COMMITMENT FIELD UNVEILING

VERDERLY TEAM COMPLEX

DEDICATED MEETING SPACE

In April 2013, Ball State launched Cardinal Commitment, a $20 million campaign that made improvements for softball, baseball, men’s and women’s golf, football, men’s and women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s volleyball.

Ball State’s Scheumann Stadium received a sprintruf playing surface this summer. Head Coach Pete Lembo and the Cardinals cut the ribbon and took in the new look and feel of their new field.

The state-of-the-art Venderly Football Team Complex will include new offices for the coaches. The project is currently under construction and is expected to be completed for the 2016 season.

The new Ronald and Joan Venderly Complex will also feature theatre style meeting spaces for the full team. This will allow for individual meetings spaces with positional players in the Fisher Training Complex.

LEADERSHIP COUNCILTHIS YEAR’S LEADERSHIP COUNCIL:

Freshmen-David Morrison, Riley Neal, Marc Walton, Kyle Schrank, Grant WilliamsonSophomores-Dedrick Cromartie, Darian Green, Jordan Hogue, Corey Lacanaria, Jack Milas, Vinnie Palazeti, Kevin WillisJuniors-Martez Hester, Aaron Taylor, Teddy WilliamsonSeniors-Dylan Curry, Ben Ingle, Jacob Richard, Chris Shillings, Darnell Smith, Nick Traub

PURPOSE:

The Leadership Council was created to maximize players’ input into everyday football program operations. The group will meet on Monday nights during the season with Coach Pete Lembo to discuss issues and make decisions that can improve the football program. There are also meetings in the spring semester, typically on Wednesdays. The meetings are a great source of feedback for the coaching staff from the players and vice versa. A major bi-product of the Council is the development of leadership and communication skills in our student-athletes.

MEMBERS:

Our entire team participated in leadership development presentations. During preseason camp, we ask each player to vote for three representatives from his class. Once these players are selected, the representatives meet with Coach Lembo and the captains on Monday nights. All representatives must be in good academic standing.

Providing leadership in education and diversity, the Mid-American Conference moves into its 69th year of service to the student-athlete.

Since its inception in 1946, the MAC has progressively grown and developed into one of the most aggressive Division I conferences in the country. One of only 10 Football Bowl Subdivision conferences, the MAC named Dr. Jon A. Steinbrecher as its eighth commissioner in March of 2009.

In 2014, Northern Illinois (Boca Raton Bowl), Toledo (GoDaddy Bowl), Western Michigan (Famous Idaho Potato Bowl), Bowling Green (Raycom Media Camellia Bowl) and Central Michigan (Popeyes Bahamas Bowl) represented the MAC in bowl games.

In the previous three bowl seasons, the MAC has a record of 6-11 in 17 bowl games – 2013 (0-5); 2012 (2-5); 2011 (4-1) – as ten different MAC programs have appeared in a bowl game in that span. The only MAC program that was bowl eligible to not receive a bowl invitation was Ohio University. The Bobcats were one of five programs in FBS to reach bowl eligibility and not receive an invitation as FBS had 81 teams bowl eligible for 76 bowl spots.

CARDINAL TAILGATEWhether it is current students, Cardinal alumni, or Muncie residents, the tailgate is the pregame destination in Cardinal country. Get ready for the Cards to take the field with live music, grilled food and a lot of Chirping.

OFF THE

FIELD

The Muncie community supports the Ball State football program and its hard work through providing professional job opportunities, internships and mentoring the young people during the summer months.

The summer internship program we created in 2011 has clearly been one the best initiatives we have undertaken. The real world experience numerous members of our team are gaining each summer will be invaluable as they prepare for life after Ball State. In addition, the time our players are spending working in local businesses is helping to further connect us with the Muncie community. Student-athlete development is an area we take great pride in as a coaching staff.

Ball State began as a private normal school in 1899. Eventually the campus and buildings were purchased by the Ball brothers, a group of Muncie industrialists, and given to the state of Indiana in 1918.

The institution was named Ball Teachers College in 1922 and Ball State Teachers College in 1929. The school became a university in 1965 and its 660-acre residential campus now includes more than 60 buildings and 300 additional acres of research property.

Ball State has seven academic colleges and a graduate school with over 150 majors offered, including business, education, sport administration, telecommunications, exercise science, criminal justice, communication studies, journalism, political science and construction management.

P aul W. Ferguson began his service as the 15th president of Ball State University in August 2014. An accomplished scholar with a record of achievement spanning more

than three decades, President Ferguson has a demonstrated record of transforming universities, especially in the areas of academic quality and student success, increased research and economic development, partnerships between the university and community, and faculty development.

Since his arrival at Ball State University, President Ferguson has initiated a new and refreshed vision for Ball State as well as a refocused strategic plan in preparation for the institution’s 100th anniversary, The Centennial Commitment (18 by ’18). President Ferguson has encouraged campus constituencies to embrace the legacy of beneficence and spirit of entrepreneurship by promoting the good in and for others in a learning environment of creativity, nurtured risk, and success. Under President Ferguson’s leadership, Ball State “aspires to be the model of the most student-centered and community-engaged of the 21st Century public research universities transforming entrepreneurial learners into impactful leaders-committed to improving the quality of life for all.”

Prior to his arrival at Ball State, he served for three years as President of the University of Maine. As President, Dr. Ferguson led a remarkable strategic planning process known as the Blue Sky Project, which was created to promote student success and community service. The Blue Sky Project

succeeded quickly as an inclusive, creative, and integrated approach to campus planning and implementation. The University enjoyed unprecedented success in facilities improvements, undergraduate student recruitment, retention, and graduation rates.

Before assuming the Presidency, Dr. Ferguson served in several strategic leadership positions including Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville; Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; and Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Louisiana, Monroe.

PRESIDENT PAUL W. FERGUSON

President Ferguson began his academic career as Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Louisiana, Monroe (ULM) College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. There, he established the first undergraduate toxicology program in the South while leading research and outreach efforts aimed at assessing potential risks form chemical exposures throughout Louisiana. After five years working as Senior Toxicologist for Unocal Corp. in Los Angeles, he returned to ULM where he received awards for teaching and research excellence as Professor and Head of the Division of Pharmacology and Toxicology. Dr. Ferguson has been continuously certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology since 1985.

A Southern California native, President Ferguson graduated from Whittier College with a B.A. in Biology (Highest Honors) and later earned a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of California, Davis in 1981.

President Ferguson and his wife, First Lady Grace Ferguson, have been married for 40 years and have three children. Dr. David Ferguson, the eldest, is an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at Michigan State University.
