Unpacking/Shipping InformationUnpacking a Product

This product was carefully inspected, tested, and calibrated before shipment to ensure years of stable and trouble-free service. 1. Check equipment for any visible damage that may have occurred during

transit. 2. Confirm that you have received all items listed on the packing list. 3. Contact your dealer if any item on the packing list is missing.4. Contact the carrier if any item is damaged.5. Remove all packaging material from the product and its associated

components before you install the unit.Keep at least one set of original packaging, in the event that you need to return a product for servicing.

Product ServicingExcept for firmware upgrades, EAS6800+ modules are not designed for field servicing. All hardware upgrades, modifications, or repairs require you to return the modules to the Customer Service center.

Returning a ProductIn the unlikely event that your product fails to operate properly, please contact Customer Service to obtain a Return Authorization (RA) number, then send the unit back for servicing. Keep at least one set of original packaging in the event that a product needs to be returned for service. If the original package is not available, you can supply your own packaging as long as it meets the following criteria:• The packaging must be able to withstand the product’s weight.• The product must be held rigid within the packaging.• There must be at least 2 in. (5 cm) of space between the product and the

container.• The corners of the product must be protected.Ship products back to us for servicing prepaid and, if possible, in the original packaging material. If the product is still within the warranty period, we will return the product prepaid after servicing.

Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Compliance

Directive 2002/95/EC—commonly known as the European Union (EU) Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS)—sets limits on the use of certain substances found in electrical and electronic equipment. The intent of this legislation is to reduce the amount of hazardous chemicals that may leach out of landfill sites or otherwise contaminate the environment during end-of-life recycling. The Directive takes effect on July 1, 2006, and it refers to the following hazardous substances: • Lead (Pb)• Mercury (Hg)• Cadmium (Cd)• Hexavalent Chromium (Cr-V1)• Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB)• Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE)According to this EU Directive, all products sold in the European Union will be fully RoHS-compliant and “lead-free.” (See our website for more information on dates and deadlines for compliance.) Spare parts supplied for the repair and upgrade of equipment sold before July 1, 2006 were exempt from the legislation. Equipment that complies with the EU directive will be marked with a RoHS-compliant emblem, as shown in Table P-1.

Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Compliance

The European Union (EU) Directive 2002/96/EC on Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) deals with the collection, treatment, recovery, and recycling of electrical and electronic waste products. The objective of the WEEE Directive is to assign the responsibility for the disposal of associated hazardous waste to either the producers or users of these products. Effective August 13, 2005, producers or users will be required to recycle electrical and electronic equipment at end of its useful life, and may not dispose of the equipment in landfills or by using other unapproved methods. (Some EU member states may have different deadlines.)

In accordance with this EU Directive, companies selling electric or electronic devices in the EU will affix labels indicating that such products must be properly recycled. Contact your local Sales representative for information on returning these products for recycling. Equipment that complies with the EU directive will be marked with a WEEE-compliant symbol, as shown in Table P-2.

SafetyCarefully review all safety precautions to avoid injury and prevent damage to this product or any products connected to it. If this product is rack-mountable, it should be mounted in an appropriate rack using the rack-mounting positions and rear support guides provided. It is recommended that each frame be connected to a separate electrical circuit for protection against circuit overloading. If this product relies on forced air cooling, it is recommended that all obstructions to the air flow be removed prior to mounting the frame in the rack. If this product has a provision for external earth grounding, it is recommended that the frame be grounded to earth via the protective earth ground on the rear panel.IMPORTANT! Only qualified personnel should perform service procedures.

Introduction

OverviewThe EAS6800+ High Quality Composite Video Encoder/Synchronizer and Analog Audio Demultiplexer is a compact module for NTSC, PAL-B, and PAL-M encoding. Supporting 4:2:2 serial digital inputs, the unit may be used as either a quality broadcast encoder or as a monitoring encoder. Digital audio can be source-selected from external AES or de-embedded from the video stream prior to digital-to-analog conversion of four analog output channels. The EAS6800+ also offers video and audio synchronization and cross-color reduction. Two options of the EAS6800+ are available:• EAS6800+B2A4 with two balanced AES audio inputs• EAS6800+C2A4 with two unbalanced (coaxial) AES inputsThe following topics are described in this chapter:• “Product Description” on page 2 • “Module Descriptions” on page 3• “Signal Flow” on page 6

over-sampled at 54 MHz (one is parameter selectable)• On Screen Display (OSD) graphics on up to two monitoring quality

composite analog video outputs• One serial digital reclocked output SMPTE 259M-C 270Mbps• Analog audio output

• Two stereo pairs (4 mono channels) • Jumper-selectable 66Ω (low impedance) or 600Ω output impedance • Jumper-selectable audio level (0 dBFS) for each channel

This switch selects between various control parameters.

Control LEDs Various lighting combinations of these control LEDs (sometimes referred to as “Bank Select LEDs”) indicate the currently selected bank. See Table 3-4 on page 21 for more information.

Monitoring LEDs

Each 6800+ module has a number of LEDs assigned to indicate varying states/functions. See “Monitoring LEDs” on page 38 for a description of these LEDs.

Local/Remote control jumper

• Local: Locks out external control panels and allows card-edge control only; limits the functionality of remote software applications to alarm monitoring

• Remote: Allows remote or local (card-edge) configuration, operation, and monitoring of the EAS6800+

Unpacking the ModuleBefore you install the EAS6800+, perform the following:

• Check the equipment for any visible damage that may have occurred during transit.

• Confirm receipt of all items on the packing list. See “Checking the Packing List” for more information.

• Remove the anti-static shipping pouch, if present, and all other packaging material.

• Retain the original packaging materials for possible re-use.See “Unpacking/Shipping Information” on page ix for information about returning a product for servicing.

Setting Jumper CJ1 for Local or Remote Control

NoteYou need to configure modules for local or remote operation prior to power-up. To change the configuration, first remove power from the module, reset the jumper, and then reapply power. The white triangle near the jumper pins on the module indicates pin 1.

Follow this procedure to set the CJ1 jumper for either local or remote control:1. Locate jumper CJ1 on the module (behind the hex switch).

Figure 2-1 shows the location of the CJ1 jumper.2. Place a jumper on pins 1 and 2 to set the module for Remote control, or pins

2 and 3 to set the module for Local control. See Figure 2-2.

Setting Jumpers for Output ImpedanceA pair of jumpers on the EAS6800+ determine the impedance level for each of the four channels. To select 66Ω (low impedance) or 600Ω impedance, you must set the JK, JL, JM, JN, JV, JW, JX, and JY jumpers, following these steps: 1. Locate the jumpers.

See Figure 2-1 on page 9 for the location of the jumpers.2. Place a jumper on pins 1 and 2 to set the channel for 66Ω analog impedance

input, or pins 2 and 3 to set the channel for 600Ω input.Do this for all channel jumpers. Table 2-2 outlines the jumper positions that will determine the impedance for all four channels.

Setting Jumpers for Audio Level There are twelve jumper positions, JD, JE, JF, JG, JH, JJ, JP, JQ, JR, JS, JT, and JU for determining the output audio level. By placing four jumper caps, you will set the maximum audio levels for all channels corresponding to a 0 dBFS input. Follow these steps: 1. Locate the jumpers.

See Figure 2-1 on page 9 for the location of the jumpers.

Installing 6800+ Modules

Required Frames and Back Connector TypesThe EAS6800+ modules have double-width back connectors that can be installed in an FR6802+X(F). See the FR6802+ Frame Installation and Operation Manual for details on installing back connectors in an FR6802+ frame.

Installing and Removing EAS6800+ ModulesThese modules require no specialized installation or removal procedures. However, if installing both front and rear modules, ensure that the back module is installed first before plugging in the front module. When removing both the front and rear modules, ensure that the front module is unplugged from the frame first, before removing the rear module. • See the FR6802+ Frame Installation and Operation Manual for

information about installing and operating an FR6802+ frame and its components.

• See the 6800+ Safety Instructions and Standards Manual for important information about safely installing your module.

Once you have installed your EAS6800+ modules, you can connect them to the appropriate input and outputs.See Figure 1-2 on page 5 and Figure 1-4 on page 6.

Upgrading Module FirmwareThis module’s firmware can be updated using CCS Pilot, CoPilot, or Navigator version 3.1.1 or higher, or the HTTP software upgrade tool. In order to perform these upgrades, your frame must be equipped with a 6800+ETH module. See your frame manual for more information.

Operating NotesWhen setting the control parameters on the EAS6800+, observe the following:• If you make changes to certain parameters, other related parameters may

also be affected. See “Audio Test Tones” on page 17 for more information.• When you change a parameter, the effect is immediate. However, the

module requires up to 30 seconds to save the latest change. After 30 seconds, the new settings are saved and will be restored if the module loses power and must be restarted.

Q-SEE Compliant ThumbnailsWhen installed in an FR6822+ or FR6802+QXF frame that also contains a 6800+ETH resource module, EAS6800+ module control windows have an extra Streaming tab in CCS Pilot and Navigator (version 3.2.1 or later). There you can view output video from the module. In addition, video from the EAS6800+, displayed at up to three frames per second, can be displayed on the 6800+ETH’s control page, and (for CCS Navigator only) on Graphical Navigation pages. Analog Audio Output Level OffsetEAS6800+ can attenuate all analog audio outputs simultaneously. This allows you to achieve additional analog audio output levels beyond what can be achieved using the analog level jumpers (see “Setting Jumpers for Audio Level” on page 10). This output level adjustment is achieved by the Output Level Offset parameter, which has a range of -5.0 to 0.0 dB in 1.0 dB steps.

NoteFor information on using card-edge controls, please refer to your FR6802+ Installation and Operation Manual.

For example, to set an analog output level of +15 dBu for a digital input audio level of 0 dBFS, use a combination of analog audio level jumper settings and adjustment of the OP Level Offset parameter.1. Set jumpers to set the analog audio output level to +16 dBu (see“Setting

Jumpers for Audio Level” on page 10). For this setting, refer to “CJ1 Settings for Local and Remote Control” on page 9.

2. Adjust the OP Level Offset parameter to -1.0 dB. Use either a remote control application (Pilot or Navigator) or card-edge control to adjust the parameter to this setting.

The combination of these two settings will achieve an analog audio output level of +15 dBu for a digital input audio level of 0 dBFS.

Audio Test TonesTable 3-1 describes the frequency and levels of each audio output test tone, available as a selection from each of the Output Audio Channel Source parameters:

Data I/O OutputThe Data I/O output provides timing reference signals for 6800+ audio tracking modules and reference video color-frame locking information for VAM6800+ modules. This output can drive up to four chained Data I/O receiver modules over coaxial cable up to 985 ft (300 m) long. If you wish to connect to more than one Data I/O receiver module, the use of T-connectors is recommended.

Using the Line Synchronizer The Line Synchronizer is a special mode of the Synchronizer Mode parameter that enables synchronization of the composite output video with the reference video. For the Line Synchronizer to function correctly, the following conditions must be met:• Reference video must be present and locked• Input SD-SDI video must be frequency locked to the reference video• Output video must be within a three-line window of the input video

Line Synchronizer in Window IndicationThe EAS6800+ provides a status parameter called Line Sync in Window. Through a remote control application, this read-only parameter indicates if the input video is within the three-line window for line synchronization. Table 3-2 summarizes this functionality.

Aligning the Output Video Using the Line SynchronizerTo align the output video to the desired position with respect to the reference video, follow these steps:1. Adjust the VPhase, HPhase, and FPhase parameters.2. Observe the Line Sync in Window status parameter from a remote control

application to ensure that the input video is within the three-line window of the output video.

If necessary, repeat steps 1 and 2 until the desired alignment is achieved.

Fine Phase EnablingWhen the Synchronizer Mode parameter is set to Delay mode, the Fine Phase parameter is disabled by default. However, it is possible to enable this control using the Fine Phase Enable parameter if the following conditions are met:• Reference video must be present and locked• Input SD-SDI video must be frequency locked to the reference videoIf the above two conditions are met and the Fine Phase Enable parameter is set to Enable, then the Fine Phase parameter will become enabled and can be adjusted. If the Reference video is not locked, then the Fine Phase Enable parameter is automatically disabled.The Fine Phase parameter is always enabled when the Synchronizer Mode parameter is set to either Frame Sync mode or Line Sync mode.

Color-Frame Locking in Delay ModeWhen the Synchronizer Mode parameter is set to Delay mode, the EAS6800+ will attempt to color-frame lock the composite output video with the reference video. In order to achieve correct color-frame locking when the module is in Delay mode, ensure the following conditions are met:• Reference video must be present and locked• Reference video standard must match the module's composite video output

standard• Input SD-SDI video must be frequency locked to the reference videoIf composite output color-frame locking is not desired when the module is in Delay mode, and the input SD-SDI is not frequency locked to the reference video, you may see distortion in the output picture. To resolve this, take one of the following steps:• Remove the reference video from the module

or• Set the Genlock Lock Mode parameter to Freerun

Changing Parameter SettingsFollow these steps to change the EAS6800+ parameter settings:1. Rotate the hex switch (mode select rotary switch) to “0.”2. Once the hex switch is set to “0,” toggle the navigation switch up or down

to select a bank. View the two control LEDs next to the navigation toggle switch to see which bank is currently selected. (See Table 3-4.)See “Card-Edge Parameter Options—EAS6800+ Modules” on page 23 to view the various banks, hex switch positions, and corresponding parameter options and values.

3. Rotate the hex switch to the parameter number (1 to 9) or letter (A to F) of the option you want to set.

NoteFor best results, use the available 6800+ software control options (serial/local or Ethernet/remote) to aid in viewing, setting, and confirming parameter values.

4. Toggle the navigation switch to select and set the value of the chosen parameter.

5. Rotate the hex switch to another parameter number/letter in the current bank, and then repeat step 4.orRotate the hex switch to “0” again to select a different bank, and then repeat steps 3 and 4.

On Screen DisplayThe EAS6800+ offers On Screen Display (OSD) graphics on the composite monitoring output. The OSD graphics allow for instant status of the output audio levels, prior to conversion to analog. There are two audio level meters, one for each audio output pair. Within each meter, the level display uses color-coded bars (green, yellow, red) to reflect the operating level.The output audio level meters have the following customization options: • Select the audio level display type with the parameters OSD VU1 Bar

Display Type and OSD VU2 Bar Display Type, and the options are VU (Volume Unit), PPM (Peak Program Meter), VU and PPM, and Off (this deactivates the feature entirely).

• Set the opaqueness of the level scale with parameters OSD VU1 Bar Opaqueness and OSD VU2 Bar Opaqueness.

• Set the vertical and horizontal position in the video frame with parameters OSD VU1 Bar Vertical Position, OSD VU1 Bar Horizontal Position, OSD VU2 Bar Vertical Position, and OSD VU2 Bar Horizontal Position.

• Adjust the green bar top level (default is –18 dBFS) with parameters OSD VU1 Green Bar Top Position and OSD VU2 Green Bar Top Position.

• Adjust the yellow bar top level (default is –6 dBFS) with parameters OSD VU1 Yellow Bar Top Position and OSD VU2 Yellow Bar Top Position.

Recalling Factory Default Parameter Settings“Card-Edge Parameter Options—EAS6800+ Modules” on page 23 describes all of the parameter settings for the EAS6800+, including the original factory defaults. To return this module to its factory default settings, you can either reset each parameter individually or do a global recall following this procedure:1. Rotate the hex switch to “0.”2. Toggle the navigation switch to the bank number “0.”

Use the control LEDs to verify which bank you have selected, or use an available 6800+ software control option (serial/local or Ethernet/remote) to aid in confirming your bank selection.

3. Rotate the hex switch to the global recall parameter “F.”4. Toggle the navigation switch to “On.”

Use an available 6800+ software control option to aid in viewing, setting, and confirming the parameter value.

Reading Software and Hardware VersionsThe current software version of your EAS6800+ module can only be viewed using a CCS-enabled control panel or a CCS software application, such as Pilot or +Pilot Lite. AlarmsIf a major or minor alarm is triggered within your EAS6800+ module, the Status LED will light red. Alarms are usually logged and monitored within available software control applications (for example, + Pilot Lite or Pilot). You can only differentiate between major and minor alarms within a software control application. See the appropriate software control user manual or online help for more information. Table 3-9 describes the specific alarms for the EAS6800+. You can only identify specific alarms using a software control application.

Q-SEE Smart Alarms

NoteQSEE smart alarms require CCS Pilot or Navigator version 3.2 or later.

Q-SEE smart alarms monitor the health of the video and embedded audio inputs to your EAS6800+ modules. Q-SEE smart alarms overcome many of the limitations of previous monitoring systems. Alarms can be enabled or disabled, so you can choose which alarms to monitor. Each alarm is configurable with the following features:• A priority setting determines whether the alarm is major or minor.• A Trigger setting determines how long an alarm condition must exist for

before it is reported.• A Clear setting determines how long the condition must cease to exist for

before the alarm is deactivated.A Global Alarm Priority can be set for EAS6800+ modules, and for each input to the module. (With Pilot or Navigator in Build mode, right click on the module or input and choose Configuration. The Report Alarms with Priority Greater Than: setting is on the Device tab.) If an alarm’s priority is at or above this setting, that alarm displays when it is triggered. Some alarms also have an associated tolerance parameter, which allows you to adjust the level above or below which an alarm is triggered.Each alarm has an option for acknowledgement, so you can let other users on the network know that the alarm situation has been addressed. When a Q-SEE smart alarm appears in an EAS6800+ module, the card-edge Module Status LED will turn red. Q-SEE smart alarm names, thresholds and other controls appear in Pilot and Navigator software only.

Alarm priority This setting determines whether a triggered alarm will be reported as major or minor. The range is 1 - 10. A priority of 6 or higher is a major alarm (red in CCS software such as Navigator), and a priority of 5 or lower is a minor alarm (yellow in CCS software).

Trigger (s) This option determines how long an alarm condition must exist (in seconds) before the alarm is triggered. If the alarm level is reached for less time than the Trigger duration, then the alarm will not trigger. Choose any duration from 0 to 7200 (or two hours). If this option is set to 0 and the alarm condition exists for any period of time, then the alarm will trigger.

Clear (s) Determines the amount of time the alarm condition must be in abate in order for the alarm to be turned off. Choose any duration from 0 to 7200 seconds (or two hours). If this option is set to 0 and the alarm condition ceases for any period of time, then the alarm will clear.

Cross-Color Reduction Filters

OverviewThis section describes the cross-color reduction filters that are available for the EAS6800+ module. The filter responses and characteristics are implemented by a 15-tap folded FIR with 12-bit coefficients. The Cross Color Reduction Filter has three parameters associated with its operation: XCR Function Block, XCR Function Enable and XCR Filter Select. • Use XCR Function Block to insert or remove the cross color reduction

circuit into or out of the video processing signal path. If set to Insert, the cross color reduction block can be enabled or disabled with the XCR Function Enable parameter. When set to Insert, the cross color reduction circuit will add 1 line and 1 μsec of video processing delay.

• Use XCR Filter Select to select the type of filter used by the cross color reduction circuitry. See “Filter Summary” on page 59 for details.

• Use XCR Function Enable to selectively enable or disable the cross color reduction circuitry. When set to Enabled, the circuit performs as described in the remainder of this section. When set to Disabled, the cross color reduction circuit is removed and an equivalent video delay is inserted to compensate for the delay that would have been introduced by the cross color reduction circuit. The net effect is an equivalent amount of video processing delay if this parameter is set to Enabled or Disabled.

Filter SummaryThe implementation of each Cross Color Reduction filter consists of two filters: a vertical high pass filter and a horizontal high pass filter. The frequency response of the vertical high pass filter is fixed and is non-programmable, while the horizontal high pass filter is programmable.

If this parameter is set to Free Run it will not synchronize the video to the genlock reference.

2. Check that the Synchronizer Mode parameter is not set to Delay mode. If this parameter is set to Delay mode it will not synchronize the video to the genlock reference.

3. Check that the SD-SDI Video Standard parameter is set to the correct standard for current video input. This parameter is normally left in Auto mode where it will automatically switch to 525 or 625 SD-SDI video standards as the input changes. However if this is forced into 525 or 625 then the genlock input must also match the chosen standard. For example, if 625 mode is selected but an NTSC reference is present on the genlock input, the unit will not genlock or synchronize.

4. If items 1 to 3 have been checked and determined correct, check the back module.a. Unplug the front module first.

b. Unscrew and remove the back module.c. Check that the 20-pin spring connector at the bottom of the back

module does not have any bent or pressed in pins. (See Figure B-1.) Even a slightly depressed or bent pin may cause genlock issues.

NoteBent pins may also cause communications issues with + Pilot Lite, Pilot or Navigator.

d. If there are bent pins, carefully reposition them to their correct positions.

e. If this is not possible, you can exchange the back module for a new one. (Order part number EAS6800+DR.)

5. If the EAS6800+ can still not be genlocked, attempt doing a Factory Recall on the module.

Output IssuesIf the composite output has issues such as no output, unstable output, or frozen output, proceed with the following checklist.1. Check that the Video Output Standard Set parameter is set correctly. If a

525 SD-SDI input is present, then the valid output standard choices are NTSC or PAL-M. If PAL-M is chosen but NTSC desired the unit will not pass good video.

2. If the Synchronize Mode parameter is set to Delay mode and the reference video is present, but the input SD-SDI is not frequency locked to the reference video, the composite output video may be distorted. To resolve this, either remove the reference video from the module, or set the Genlock Lock Mode parameter to Freerun.

3. If the video output appears to be frozen, check that the Freeze Enable parameter is not set to Enabled. By turning this on it will freeze the last video frame or field that was received.

4. If the video output appears to be stuck on a test pattern, check that the Test Signal Enable parameter is not set to Enabled.

5. If Closed Captioning on Line 21 does not appear to be picked up by CC decoders or is intermittent, ensure that the Line 21 VBI parameters are set to Luma Only. This bypasses any cross color artifacts that may occur.• Go to the VBI Field 1 Line 21 Mode parameter and select Luma Only.• If there is Closed Caption 2 (CC 2) on Field 2 then also go to the VBI

Field 2 Line 21 Mode parameter and select Luma only.If the CC decoder still has problems decoding the closed captioning, check that there is no setup on Line 21. Go to the Setup Starting Line parameter and set it to 22 so that setup is not added to Line 21.

6. If the output is still not valid, try doing a Factory Recall.7. Check the Module Status LED on the card edge. If it is flashing red it

indicates there is a likely hardware or firmware fault. Contact customer service.

If, after going through this checklist, the EAS6800+ module still does not operate as expected contact Customer Service for further assistance.

+ Pilot Lite Fails to Communicate with Installed ModulesConfirm that the following items are not the reason for the communication failure:• Proper module slot has not been specified (+ Pilot Lite is not

communicating with the appropriate slot). See your FR6802+ Frame Installation and Operation Manual for more information on slot identification.

• COM port is used elsewhere (Check that the correct COM port is configured in + Pilot Lite and that another application is not using that COM port).

• Actual frame ID does not match with the two DIP switch settings in the back of the frame (+ Pilot Lite is not communicating with the proper frame). See your FR6802+ Frame Installation and Operation Manual for more information on frame ID switch settings.

• Null modem cable is not being used. Between the PC running + Pilot Lite and the FR6802+ frame, there should be a null RS-232 modem cable. At minimum, this requires that pins 2 and 3 are crossed and 5 to 5 for ground.

• ICE6800+ module is installed in the frame (+ Pilot Lite control is disabled if an ICE6800+ module is installed in the frame; ICE6800+ modules are used for CCS control).

• A legacy 6800 series product is in the frame. + Pilot Lite cannot communicate with legacy 6800 series products. They will not be discovered or controlled by + Pilot Lite, although they can be installed in the FR6802+ frame and work using card edge controls. The module must be from the 6800+ product family.

• Check that the back module does not have any bent pins, following this procedure:a. Unplug the front module. b. Unscrew and remove the back module.

+ Pilot Lite Does Not Find All Modules in FrameIf a discovery is started too soon after frame power-up, + Pilot Lite will not find all the installed modules. Refresh + Pilot Lite (File > Refresh), and ensure that installed modules are fully powered-up first before discovery.If a module is plugged into the frame after a discovery, + Pilot Lite does not automatically detect the module. Refresh + Pilot Lite (File > Refresh) to discover the newly installed module.If a Legacy 6800 series product is in the frame, + Pilot Lite will not detect it. + Pilot Lite cannot communicate with legacy 6800 series products. They will not be discovered or controlled by + Pilot Lite although they can be installed in the FR6802+ frame and work using card edge controls. For + Pilot Lite to find a module, it must be from the 6800+ product family.

+ Pilot Lite or CCS Software Application Not Responding+ Pilot Lite and CCS applications such as Navigator or Pilot cannot run on the same PC at the same time. Both applications can be installed, but only one can be opened at a time.

+ Pilot Lite Cannot Control a Module Showing in the Control Window

Consider these questions:

• Did you physically set the jumper for local control? If so, set this jumper to the REM position for remote control.

• Does the card name in the control window physically match the card type in the frame?

• Is the module properly seated in the frame? Check the positioning of the module in its slot in the frame.

• Does the Control window indicate the device is “ready”? The device may be powered off or disconnected from the network.

+ Pilot Lite Status Bar Reports “Not Ready”+ Pilot Lite reports each device’s connection status in the status bar. If the connection status message reads “Not Ready,” check the following:• Is the module properly seated in the frame? Check the position of the

module in the frame.• Is the frame connected to the network? Check the device’s network

connection.If the status bar still reports no status or “Not Ready” for the frame or device, try restarting + Pilot Lite.

CCS Software Application or Remote Control Panel Does Not Communicate with Module

CCS software applications (such as Pilot, CoPilot, and Navigator) and remote control panels require the purchase and installation of an ICE6800+ module in an FR6802+ frame in order to communicate remotely via Ethernet.

Alarm Query Fails When a Device RebootsWhen you reboot a device connected to your PC, the alarm traffic hitting the network may cause an alarm query request to time out and fail. While the query does not automatically retry, it will post an “Alarm query failed” message to the Diagnostics window.To clear an “Alarm query failed” message, right-click inside the Diagnostics window, and then select Refresh from the resulting context menu.

Frames Fail to Communicate with the PC after a Power FailureYou must exit the software and restart after the frame recovers from its power failure. To restore communications between the PC and the frames, ensure that the frames have three or more minutes to recover from the power failure before you exit the application and restart the PC.

Module Does Not Seem to WorkAlthough the following troubleshooting tips may seem obvious, please take the time to ensure the following:• All appropriate rear connections are securely made• The board is securely installed (with no bent pins)• The frame is turned on
