Emerging Leaders Hands-On Workshops/Breakout Sessions
Wednesday, September 28, 2016
10:45 -12:00 | ERSEA Review
Our concurrent sessions are intended for all user levels and Head Start professionals but will be especially useful to new
ERSEA managers or beginners who perform enrollment.
1:00 pm – 2:30 pm | Creating Assessments in COPA
Creating assessments in COPA workshop will provide participants with an in-depth review of COPA software's many features
and capabilities for customization to create locally-designed assessments, build pre-existing assessments (e.g. CLASS,
ECERS-R, ITERS-R, DRDP 2015, etc.) and utilize assessments in the COPA database (e.g. Directors, Managers and Supervisor
Skills, etc.). This workshop will focus on not only how to build child, family and staff assessments, but also how to maximize
assessment tools through optimized set-up and use of COPA reports. The presenter will emphasize the CLASS (Classroom
Assessment Scoring System) observation instrument, as this is a “high-stakes” tool prominently noted in Performance
Standard 1307-Policies and Procedures for Designation Renewal of Head Start and Early Head Start Grantees.
2:45 pm – 5:00 pm | Monitoring in COPA
Monitoring in COPA will focus on the importance of creating effective and efficient ongoing monitoring systems, using
COPA in general, including all reports, and more specifically using COPA Monitoring Module. As a former Head Start/EHS
manager, director and Federal Reviewer, the presenter will share lessons learned about monitoring and connect this to
how COPA can serve as a very powerful and effective tool to help Head Start/Early Head Start programs maintain
compliance and continue to work toward developing an ongoing monitoring system that uses data to show outcomes.
Thursday, September 29, 2016
9:00 – 10:30 | Best Practices with COPA Experts (main room/Edinburgh Hall)
This collaborative session is designed to provide education on current trends and best practices for individuals with Super-
Admin or Management responsibilities in a dynamic and interactive environment. The COPA Experts participating in this
session, Sue Roberts and Rebecca Trivax, are both Super-Admin and COPA Certified Trainers, excited to develop powerful
and lasting professional relationships to engage in significant problem solving with Directors in the field. The subject matter
will include "Pre-natal Data Entry," "EHS-CCP Program Management" and "Family & Community Engagement Tips and
Tricks."
10:45-12:00 | Health Services
Join us to learn about Head Start health regulations and, more importantly, how to meet them in your organization using
the COPA database. Review the regulations you need to know to stay in compliance through examples, stories, and best
practices learned from years of auditing and consulting. Take back up-to-date and relevant information to implement
immediately in your agency.
