What is a Title I School?
A school that receives funding from the U.S. Department of Education to meet the needs of at-risk and low-income students

• Nation’s oldest and largest federally funded program
• Must meet certain requirements set forth by the government to continue receiving funding

• Large concentration of low income students– Based on free and reduced lunch numbers

What are the requirements that ELP must meet to remain Title I?
• 40% of students must receive free or reduced lunch
• Complete an annual comprehensive Needs Assessment
• Complete a comprehensive plan using the results of the needs assessment
• Create a Parent Involvement Plan based on the results of the needs assessment

Parent Involvement
The statute defines parental involvement as the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring—– that parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s
learning;– that parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their
child’s education at school;– that parents are full partners in their child’s education and are
included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child; and
– that other activities are carried out, such as those described in section 1118 of the ESEA (Parental Involvement). [Section 9101(32), ESEA.]
