FAMILY SUCCESS INITIATIVE (FSI) PROGRAM / ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) CLASSESIn an effort to increase parent engagement, the Division of Adult and Career Education (DACE) collaborated with Parent and Community Services to pilot the Family Success Initiative (FSI), an innovative approach to providing English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to parents of LAUSD students. FSI uses a strengths-based approach to increase school, family, and community partnerships while promoting the assets of parent-child bilingualism and biliteracy. All parents will be enrolled in the DACE English as a Second Language (ESL) program which will be enhanced with the components of the nationally recognized, evidence-based model of Family Literacy: Parent Education, Childhood Education, and Parent-Child Interactive Literacy Activities (PCILA)*.
