We are also happy to welcome vendor partners who will be presenting sessions. Check out the vendor area located by the media center. We are so privileged to have nationally known educators providing the morning keynotes and teaching sessions throughout the day. We welcome Richard Bryne on June 12th and Vicki Davis on June 13th. You just need to decide what to miss so you can eat! Door prizes will be awarded daily. East Noble School Corporation is a 1-1 school district for K-12 students, and we look forward to sharing what works in our classrooms. Schools around Indiana and all over the world are at a tipping point regarding student’s access to a digital tool to help them learn. Many schools, like us, are embracing the shift from teacher-centered classrooms to student led inquiry based learning spaces that use the Internet as their textbook. Giving every student a device and opening up their classroom to the world is changing how we prepare our students for the world they will live and work in. It is a challenge to guide students through the unlimited possibilities accessible on the web, but what an opportunity it provides for learning, knowledge creation, and sharing! Great things are happening in our classrooms! We invite you to participate in as many sessions as you can! Spend some time in the workroom (media center) practicing what you have learned. Teachers and students will be there to help you! Expand you PLN connecting with the instructors and peers you meet at KTT3. Be sure to bookmark the resource page where some presentations and resources will be housed. Contribute to the Twitter Fall or other back-channeling opportunities to share your thoughts as you participate. Don’t forget to evaluate your sessions and the conference itself so our presenters can learn from you, too--and so the IDOE knows we started off the summer eLearning conferences right! We are glad you are here! We look forward to getting to know you and to hear about your own experiences teaching with technology. Opening Session for All Guests 8:00 – 8:50 – Munk’s Stage Ten Common Challenges Facing Educators and Tools to Address Them

Whether you work with elementary school, middle school, or high school students, there are challenges that are common to all educators. In this upbeat presentation, Richard Byrne outlines those challenges and some technology-infused solutions to them. You're sure to come away with some new strategies to add to your playbook. Keynote Speaker:

Richard Byrne I taught for eight years at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in South Paris, ME. In the past I have also taught courses in global studies and English/ Language Arts. During that time I piloted 1:1 laptop use before the program went school-wide. I coordinated a "laptop squad" to support teachers' use of laptops in their classrooms. I also served a number of curriculum and assessment committees. And in 2010 I was finalist for ACTEM's Educator of the Year award. I believe that when used correctly, technology has the power to improve student engagement and student achievement. I also believe that technology gives teachers the ability to form powerful, global, professional learning communities. I am a Google Certified Teacher. Today, I work full-time as a writer and consultant with an eye toward returning to the classroom in the fall of 2012. While I could make a living just writing and consulting, I believe that it is important to be in the classroom to practice what I preach.

Joan Roehre: A former Web 2.0 and Distance Learning Facilitator for the Kenosha Unified School District, Joan now works as a Mobile Learning Expert for Lightspeed Systems, the developer of the safe-social-learning platform My Big Campus. Abby Schmiesing: I am 4th year teacher licensed in Spanish and ESL. I have taught various levels of Spanish and am currently in the process of being certified to teach AP Spanish classes. I went to school at Indiana University and currently live in Fort Wayne. I use technology, to some extent, in my classes every day, but assign 3 projects per trimester that have a higher focus on technology.

Sharon Sheets: With her experience as a middle school teacher and her background in

corporate training, Sharon leads the training effort at Emerge. She develops and

delivers professional development promoting the integration of classroom technology to

meet student centered learning objectives. She also provides professional development

workshops through the Indiana Regional Education Service Centers in northern Indiana.

Digital storytelling is also a focus of this workshop, creating projects that meet important

Common Core objectives. Sharon spent 14 years in her school district as computer

instructor, social studies instructor, and as a middle school and district leader. A

passionate champion in her district for investment in technology, she recognizes the

importance of training and ongoing support for teachers and staff. Before teaching,

Sharon spent fifteen years working in corporate training and sales. This experience, and

a degree in Education from Ball State University, provides a unique perspective

benefitting her future students and colleagues.

Laura Sibert: I have been in the classroom for 16 years teaching both MS and HS students in PE, careers, and mathematics. These past two years I have been out of the classroom and in the role of a Peer Coach at the middle school. I have loved everything about the job, the ups, the downs, the good and the bad. Helping teachers to learn more about and discover new technology based lessons has been a great experience for me. Alisa Smith: I have been with East Noble School Corporation since 2002 as a classroom teacher and have recently made the transition into administration. I currently serve as Assistant Principal at the high school. I have had the very unique opportunity to be involved with our transition to one-to-one in both capacities, giving me a perspective of the initiative from both lenses. I saw it transform my classroom into a project based environment, and I have met its challenges in my management of the technology as a classroom teacher and from a disciplinary and curricular perspective as Assistant Principal. I am happy to share! Jo Smith: This summer opens the door to my 19th year at Avilla School - primarily teaching upper elementary students. I’m a New Yorker by heart, and have been calling Indiana home for about 25 years. I’ve been married 20 of those years (to the same man) and together we parent a 14 year old, 13 year old, and 7 year old. I am a local business owner, and love to “small business shop”. My iPad is my right arm in and out of the classroom!

Melissa Spencer: I am a fourth grade teacher working at South Side Elementary School. I have a diverse background working with preschool, first grade, and fourth grade students. Every day the students in my class encourage me to share more technology opportunities with them. When students and teachers share the learning of technology, the lessons become engaging and interactive. Each day I look forward to using technology in an innovative way.

Jake Swartz: I am a science teacher at East Noble with 14 years of experience. I have embraced technology and am ever learning new ways to reach students and enrich my curriculum in the 21st century.

Debi Terrell: Debi is a Family and Consumer Science Teacher at East Noble High School. She has taught for 25 plus years in many different settings. Debi has the opportunity to teach a wide range of courses in FACS department and makes it a goal to incorporate technology in every course. Debi has been married 27 years to a United Methodist pastor and has made many moves including new homes and new schools. Her love of technology began 20 years ago when she took on the secretary position at the new church knowing her husband’s lack of technology skills. Each month she was required to prepare a 6 page newsletter to be mailed. The last person to do the job glued and pasted different parts of the newsletter together trying to get them to fit into a template. It did not take her long to determine there had to be a better way. Purchasing Microsoft Publisher for their IBM computer she learned to make the program sing. It is her belief that a program should never beep at you, YOU tell the program how the finished product will look. That is how she confronts changes in technology and takes pride in tackling new programs morphing them into a usable product in and out of the classroom.

Chelsey Thangvijit: I grew up in a little town in Southwest Michigan, graduated from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) with my BA in English, and then decided to venture south to Indiana for my MA in Teaching from Earlham College. On the tech side… for years I was the most vocal pro-PC/anti-Apple person you would ever be likely to meet. In 2009 I purchased my first Apple device and have never looked back (except at work, of course!)! 1:1 has been an exhilarating experience and I am looking forward to discovering more unchartered avenues with my students. Connect @cthangvijit

Nathan Toles: After graduating from IPFW in 2008 I was hired as a 7th Grade social studies teacher and tennis coach at East Noble Middle School. I have been fortunate enough to travel to several of the locations that I teach about. When I am not teaching, coaching, or traveling I enjoy playing golf! Josh Walters: I have been involved with technology since being a junior in East Noble High School working half days with the technology department. Upon graduating, I was hired full time starting out with just basic teacher support and have continued to gain responsibility every year. Currently, I am transitioning into being in charge of East Noble’s 1:1 program for grades K-12.

Tracy Wihelm: I have been a kindergarten teacher for 11 years and thought my students could teach me about technology more than I could teach them. It is more than just kids favorites apps that teach. I am now really excited when I learn a new piece of technology that will benefit my students especially when I can make it interactive…like creating near pod presentations.

Kim Williams: Kim Williams has taught middle school math for ENSC since graduating from Manchester College in 1985. She began her career at Avilla School teaching sixth through eighth graders general math, pre-algebra or algebra. Since moving to East Noble Middle School, she has also been teaching a business/careers course as an elective class. Next year, she will be leaving the math department to teach an expanded course of business and television production.

Ryen Wilson: Ryen Wilson has been with East Noble High School for six years teaching Earth and Space Sciences. With the transition to one to one computing he was able to develop more in depth lessons using real world technologies that can bring the subject matter to life. Lance Yoder: I am a technology peer coach, or as some call it a technology integration specialist. Whatever you call it, I am really just a nerd. I spend my time ultimately serving as a filter from the vast amounts of information and resources available in the digital realm for our teachers. As a former fourth grade teacher, I bring classroom experience as well as constant research of great resources and tools that exist on the web. You can find my resources posted on http://ipadcoaches.wordpress.com.

Michelle Yoder: Hello, my name is Michelle Yoder and I teach 1st grade at Avilla Elementary School. As a teacher, I strive to improve student learning outcomes by providing students with rigorous and relevant learning opportunities so they will be prepared for 21st century success. My goal is to have a classroom where even the youngest students work with real world applications that are inquiry-based. I acknowledge the technologically connected world we live in, and practically support students so they can communicate and learn globally. My classroom is a place where innovation, creativity, thinking, and problem-solving are actively taught, encouraged and nurtured.
