ECQG Basket Bulletin Bonnie Hunter
The ECQG is in for a long awaited treat, some of you have been members here long enough to remember that ,at beginning of her great journey , Bonnie Hunter came and taught and lectured. Since then she has become nothing short of a superstar in the quilting world. She still works with scraps and encourages other quilters around the world to do the same. Bonnie’s classes with the ECQG have been filled almost from the day we opened registration. Even if you didn’t get a spot, you can come share the excitement of her lecture either Thursday or Friday. Her quilts are something to see and her lectures are inspiring. Bonnie Hunter has been quilting since she was a teenager and her collection of scraps is incredible. She has been publishing online since before blogging was popular (http://www.quiltville.com) she publishes many patterns for free, gives a lot of online lessons and encourages a “Leaders and Enders” project for people to participate in. Once a year she publishes a mystery quilt project, releasing weekly clues for quilters to follow along. She also writes a regular column “Addicted to Scraps” for Quiltmaker Magazine. In addition to loving scraps, Bonnie collects antique sewing machines. She has more than can be counted, but she’s got pictures of at least 50 of them on her website. Check it out at: http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/my-vintage-machines.html. In addition to quilting, writing, traveling the world to teach, and coming up with creative projects for her online fans, Bonnie has a husband, two adult sons, a dog, two cats and a long arm quilt machine. ~ Danielle Morgan
Looking Ahead In July, Modern Quilting is going to be presented to us by Jacquie Gering. There
will be two classes to choose from, Scrappy Improvisation and Piecing Hexagons
by Machine! Registration for July classes is available

Andi’s Byline
Welcome to June, Quilters! I know you've had plenty of time to wrap up some projects - or dive in on new ones! With climbing temperatures and humidity so high it feels like it's going to rain inside my car, I've spent as much time as possible at the sewing machine, conveniently set up next to the air conditioner vent and an endless glass of iced tea! June is heating up for us with two very exciting events! One, the BIG REVEAL of the Georgia Celebrates Quilts Raffle Quilt happens at both Day and Evening meetings this month! This top secret quilt has been seen by very few eyes, but I'm told it's signed, sealed, and delivered, and your eyes will see it for the first time next week! And of course, Bonnie Hunter is in the house for two lectures and two workshops this month! Both workshops are filled and have a waiting list (no surprise!). I am certain both meetings will be cram-packed, so arrive early and snag yourself a seat! We are barreling ahead on meeting our community service goals, so please bring any quilts, place mats, or pillow cases and turn them in to Stella Lang or Linda Wirtz. We cannot thank you enough for your continued support and contribution. Stay cool, quilters, and let's meet up for some quality social time among our favorite quilters, shall we? Andi Barney President

CHALLENGE 2017 “IT’S A JUNGLE OUT THERE!”
Well Monika MonKee is actually enjoying her new home in Charleston. She is a Governess for a family with a lot of little “sock” monkeys and has her hands full. She hasn’t even mentioned missing Hunky Monkey. He has finally stopped calling my house so all is good. I hope everyone is working on their CHALLENGE piece, if not actually sewing!! Perhaps choosing a design? Having and idea? Choosing fabric? At least thinking about it. There are less then 240 days left so we do need to get sewing. Two members have emailed me that theirs are DONE! The pressure is on! Monika was so impressed with this that she chose special fabric (herself!) before she left. (I think she just wanted an excuse to ride around with Hunky in his cougar) but I promised to send a FQ to everyone that completed (COMPLETED!!) their CHALLENGE piece by the end of August. Do not send me a picture! I will trust that you are not lion or cheetahing. Just email me and let me know. The rules are on the website if you have any questions just contact me. Thanks. ~ Jan Cunningham [email protected]
It’s Summer and it is HOT!! It’s time to STRIP
(strip fabric that is) The “STRIP CLUB” will meet on July 16th
At Community Bible Church in Kennesaw 12-4pm. Come strip with us and create a charity quilt for someone in need.

Treasurer’s Report Account Balances as of May 31, 2016 were: In May, $9,500 was transferred from the Guild Account to the Show Account for Georgia Celebrates Quilts and Market 2017. Please contact Robin Meyer at [email protected] with any questions.
Guild Account $21,706.61
Guild CD 30,457.08
Quilt Show Account 13,557.40
Total $65,721.09
Sunshine Feeling puny is no fun – so sometimes just knowing that other care means a lot. By adding a surprise in our cards, it just makes it that much better. Our “surprise” is our little hearts we are creating. I will slip one in each envelope and hope it will jump out and put a smile on the receiver’s face. I hope you are working on a heart or two to turn in at the next meeting. Making Hearts: • Make your heart the size that will fit in an envelope • Put a little batting or iron on the inside for stability, or.. • Turn them inside out, stitch the sides together – hand or machine • Last resort, glue them together – (whatever works) • Add any kind of buttons, beads, ribbons, lace, etc. • Make them cute or elegant…plain or gaudy
It is with great sadness that we have lost another outstanding quilter in our Guild. Betty Alvarez served as President of ECQG in the early 1990’s. She also Chaired one or more of our fabulous Quilt Shows. Her quilts and workmanship were always outstanding. Betty helped the guild when she could…even when she was sick. She leaves a big hole in the lives of those who knew and loved her. To send a card, call 770.315.6034 for further information.

East Cobb Quilters’ Guild
General Meeting Minutes
Catholic Church of St. Ann
May 27, 2016
The meeting was called to order at 9:40 AM by President Andi Barney with a reminder to turn off cell
phones.
Minutes - Andi asked for approval of the April minutes as published in the May newsletter. Lynn
Rinehart made the motion which was seconded by Christie Stevens. The motion passed on a voice vote.
Treasurer’s Report –Robin Meyer was absent but Andi reported balances of $33,841.96 in the Guild
Account, $30,429.31 in the Guild CD, and $4,057.40 in the Quilt Show Account for a total balance of
$68,320.27 for the period ending April 30, 2016. There was a need to transfer funds from the Guild
account to the Quilt Show account to maintain a minimum balance and avoid monthly fees being made
in error by Wells Fargo. There is a more detailed explanation in the May newsletter.
Hospitality – Alycia Davis introduced 3 guests who were in attendance and gave each a warm welcome.
Sunshine – Helena Krapp will be sending out get well cards every month or month and a half to members
with serious illnesses. She hopes to receive fabric hearts from the membership to include with the cards.
New Bees –Kim Ayers was absent but Andi reported that Kim had not received a lot of interest from
members seeking to join a bee. She said joining a bee was a good way to get integrated if you are new to
the Guild.
Library – Devon Pfeif said there were lots of new books on the library table and that this month’s focus
was on books on piecing in preparation for Bonnie Hunter’s visit in June.
Upcoming Programs– Christie Stevens announced the following schedule:
June – Bonnie Hunter is our guest speaker and there may be one opening for her Saturday class.
July – Jacquie Gering, a modern quilter, will be offering a Thursday workshop on scrappy
improvisational quilts and a Saturday class on piecing hexagons by machine. Thus far there are
seven openings for Thursday and six for Saturday.
September – Wendy Butler Burns is the speaker and will be offering two classes: Textured Tweety
Falls in Love, and Out on a Limb. Registration will be open the end of June.
2017 Challenge– Jan Cunningham, with the help of her stuffed monkey, announced that anyone finished

Show Update– Lynn Rinehart announced that there will be a meeting for all chair positions on June 3
from 11 AM-1 PM at the East Cobb Library. The raffle quilt top is currently at the quilter. In July Lynn will
talk about Small Treasures and other things we can all do in support of the Show.
Show & Tell – Kay Harper assisted members in showing their quilts and making announcements.

Community Service Linda Wirtz The night guild is doing really well towards the year’s goal. This month’s tip: Quilt as you Go pattern for a strippy quilt made from fat quarters was passed out.
