EASTER on April Fool’s Day? April 1, 2018

Easter on April Fool’s Day? When I first checked the calendar and the date I thought it was a joke. Easter in my lifetime has never fallen on this date; the last time this happened was in 1956, and the next time it will be in 2029. Of course, I don’t remember Ash Wednesday falling on Valentine’s Day either! April Fool’s Day is typically a day of jokes and hoaxes throughout history. In 2016, a prank was pulled when a famous soccer player was reported to have switched teams; what was funny is the writer of the story was lirpa sloof (April fools spelled backwards). Another example is when Sports Illustrated said they had found a pitcher, George Plimpton, who could throw a baseball 168 mph! People are even selling happy Easter April Fool’s Day T-Shirts. While there have been famous pranks and hoaxes throughout history the Bible makes it clear that while Easter is on April Fool’s Day the resurrection is no joke! 1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV) says “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” The word for foolishness in the Greek is where we get our word moron from. To those that are perishing the message of the cross is moronic or nonsense; To those being saved though it is the power of God.
