Our Mission Statement

We, the Catholic Community of St. Pio, inspired by the Holy Spirit, celebrate the Eucharist with hope, to share our faith, love,

and the Good News of Jesus Christ through outreach and fellowship.

Dear Friends in Christ,

With great Joy in my heart I announce to

You : Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

When we live the New Life of the Resurrec-

tion we become the best versions of our-

selves. We become what St. Augustine re-

ferred to as an "Easter People," a people

transformed into disciples and stewards who

commit to give their time, talent and treas-

ure in witness.

My prayer for You this Easter is that you live

as people deeply touched by the Resurrec-

tion and proclaim: Christ is Risen. Alleluia,

Alleluia.

Your Shepherd, Fr. Greg

ST. GEORGE

According to legend, St. George was a Roman soldier born in Lydia (now modern-

day Turkey) circa AD 280. He died in Lydda, Palestine (now Lod, Israel) circa 303. Little is known of his early life. He is believed to have been born to a wealthy Christian family. As an adult he entered the army and joined the retinue of Emper-or Diocletian. In 303, Diocletian, sup-pressed the growing influence of Christi-anity, ordering Christian soldiers ex-pelled or forced to make the traditional pagan sacrifice. George refused. Diocle-tian tried to corrupt him with wealth and land, without success. George was be-headed on April 23—now his feast day.

The myth of St. George slaying dragons originally appeared in stories of the Or-thodox Church and relayed by the Cru-saders of the 10th and 11th centuries. In one story, a town in Libya had a lake with a plague-infected dragon living in it. The townspeople, gradually being killed by the dragon, started feeding it sheep to appease it. When they ran out of sheep the king devised a lottery for choosing local children to feed the beast. One day, the king’s own daughter was chosen and, while led to the lake, St. George hap-pened to ride past, reportedly offering to slay the dragon if the people would con-vert to Christianity—which they did.

St. George is the patron saint of England and many other countries and cities, as well as chivalry, soldiers, knights, horsemen, the Boy Scouts, and skin ailments. St. George is portrayed as exemplifying the virtues of faith, courage, conviction, and fortitude.

He is risen! Alleluia! Happy Resurrection Sunday to all of you

may Our Risen Savior abide with you always. I would like to offer this prayer for your reflection over the octave of Easter: Father God, there is sometimes controversy about how, when, and what to call the remembrance of the greatest day in history - the day Jesus Christ, your beloved son, rose from the dead and brought the gift of your forgiveness and eternal life to all who would like to re-ceive it - the new covenant. Please pour out your Holy Spirit on all who believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and put us on our knees before you with thankful hearts for your great love for us. You, oh God, have given us victory over sin and death, and the promise of never leaving us or forsaking us for eternity. Help us to be the body of Christ, the church, united in awe of how you saved our unworthy souls ... your body and your blood as a sacrifice for us. Help us to bring this mes-sage to all who will listen. Help us to love like you love. Thank you forever! Amen. others.
