Why We Are Here

Page 9: Eastside Transit Corridor - Phase 2 - Public …media.metro.net/projects_studies/eastside_phase2/images/...• Eastside residential growth projected to be greater than 800,000 by Year

Goals and Purpose of Project

• To identify ways to provide a transit connection to the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension now under construction

• To link cities further east of Los Angeles with the regional transit network

• To improve mobility in the Project Area by enhancing transit options

• To plan for projected growth in a sustainable manner

Page 10: Eastside Transit Corridor - Phase 2 - Public …media.metro.net/projects_studies/eastside_phase2/images/...• Eastside residential growth projected to be greater than 800,000 by Year

Purpose & Need Findings

• Eastside residential growth projected to be greater than 800,000 by Year 2030; greater than the population of the City of San Francisco

• Eastside Metro rail coverage is sparse compared to other quadrants

Scoping Summary – General Impressions

• Participants are aware of the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension and support extending it further east

• Residents indicated proximity to downtown Los Angeles as a reason they moved into the project area

• Residents cited ever increasing congestion that continues to delay their commute

Page 19: Eastside Transit Corridor - Phase 2 - Public …media.metro.net/projects_studies/eastside_phase2/images/...• Eastside residential growth projected to be greater than 800,000 by Year

Scoping Summary – Specific Impressions

• Light Rail Technology (LRT) is preferred transit mode

• Parking, safety, property values and congestion are biggest community issues

• Whittier Boulevard as a preferred alignment with grade separations

• SR-60 Freeway and Washington Boulevard as strong secondary alignment options

• Segments of Beverly Boulevard were noted to avoid due to narrow right-of-way and established trees in Whittier
