1 About the Instruction Manual
This instruction manual is supplied with AP-SoftPrint and informs you about the
installation and use of the software.
Conventions for safety messages
The following conventions for safety messages are used in this instruction
manual:

AP-SoftPrint for Multiwave 3000 / Multiwave ECO and Synthos 3000 has been
designed for a simple data transfer from Multiwave 3000 / Multiwave ECO and
Synthos 3000 to a PC. It offers an Excel add-in for reading out run-data from the
instrument, supporting follwing functions:
• Receiving run-data during or after a run and storing it in a Microsoft Excel
book
• Auto-draw function to generate graphs from the received run-data
• Online graph for viewing the run-status during operation of the instrument
The program is available free of charge for users of Anton Paar's
Multiwave 3000 / Multiwave ECO and Synthos 3000. It can be downloaded from
the Anton Paar website (http://www.anton-paar.com), or is provided by our local
distribution partners.
AP-SoftPrint must not be sold.
As the program is free of charge, Anton Paar can neither exclude the possibility
of errors in all situations, nor offer unlimited support.
We are grateful for any information about errors in order to correct them. For that

Please note that AP SoftPrint does not fulfill current standards regarding data
security. If you need to comply with these standards for legal or other reasons,
AP SoftPrint for Multiwave 3000 / Multiwave ECO and Synthos 3000 should not
be used.
End Users License Agreement (EULA):
This is a legal agreement between you (either an individual or an entity) and
Anton Paar GmbH. By installing and using this software, you agree to abide by
the terms and conditions of this agreement. Failure to comply with the terms of
this license terminates the agreement and your rights to use this SOFTWARE.
ANTON PAAR GMBH SOFTWARE LICENSE
1. GRANT OF LICENSE. This Anton Paar Software License Agreement
("License") permits you to use this SOFTWARE free of charge on any
number of machines within your company.
2. COPYRIGHT. The SOFTWARE is owned by Anton Paar GmbH or its
suppliers and is protected by Austrian copyright laws and international treaty
provisions. Therefore, you must treat the SOFTWARE like any other copyrighted
material (e.g., a book or musical recording).

3. OTHER RESTRICTIONS. This Anton Paar Software License Agreement is
your proof of license to exercise the rights granted herein and must be
retained by you. You may not redistribute the SOFTWARE, even if you want
to redistribute it free of charge. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or
disassemble the SOFTWARE or any parts of it.
4. NO WARRANTY: The software and documentation are provided on an "as
is" basis and all risk is with you. Anton Paar makes no warranties, express,
implied, or statutory, as to any matter whatsoever. In particular, any and all
warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-
infringement of third parties rights are expressly excluded. Further, Anton
Paar GmbH makes no representations or warranties that the software and
documentation provided are free of errors or viruses or that the software and
documentation are suitable for your intended use.
5. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: In no event shall Anton Paar GmbH or its
suppliers be liable to you or any other party for any incidental, special, or
consequential damages, loss of data, or data being rendered inaccurate,
loss of profits or revenue, or interruption of business in any way arising out of
or related to the use or inability to use the software and/or documentation,
regardless of the form of action, whether in contract, tort (including
negligence), strict product liability or otherwise, even if any representative of
Anton Paar or its suppliers has been advised of the possibility of such
damages.
This License Agreement represents the entire agreement concerning
SOFTWARE between you and Anton Paar GmbH. It supersedes any prior
proposal, representation, or understanding between the parties.

3.1 Installation Requirements
• Multiwave 3000 / Synthos 3000 with software v2.02 or Multiwave ECO.
• PC with:
• Pentium I processor or better (Pentium II recommended) For online-draw function Pentium II processor or better (Pentium III recommended).
• CD-ROM drive (quad speed or faster if used with Windows 95/98/2000/XP/7 to install the USB to RS232 adapter)
• One free serial interface (RS 232) or one free USB port to use an USB to RS232 adapter
• Operating system: Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7
• Microsoft Excel (Office 2000 or higher)• Screen resolution min. 800 x 600, recommended 1024 x 768 or higher
• Serial Link Cable (available from Anton Paar GmbH, Mat. No. 70429)
• Optional: USB-RS232 adapter (Mat.No. 17562)
TIP The USB-RS232 adapter was only tested with the systems mentioned above.
3.2 Connecting the Instrument to your PC
1. Connect the COM 1 port of your instrument by the serial link cable
(Mat.No. 70429) to the serial port of your PC.
TIP Use the optional USB-RS232 adapter to connect the instrument to the USB port
of your PC.

TIP The connection is unidirectional, i.e. data is received from the instrument, but
commands are not transferred to the instrument.
2. Switch on the instrument.
3. Press <Setup F1 >.
4. Choose "Serial Port Setup" and confirm with <Enter F1>.
5. Choose "Transfer Delay".
6. Press <+> or <-> to define the value.
TIP Choose the data transfer rate according to the performance of your PC. Start with
30 ms and increase to 50 or 100 ms, if necessary.

3.3 Installing AP-SoftPrint
Former versions of AP-SoftPrint have to be deinstalled before the current version
v2.5 can be installed (refer to chapter 5).
AP SoftPrint comes as a standard zip file package (WinZip) including:
• the "B83AIC1C_AP_SoftPrint_v2.5_Multiwave.xla"-file• the AP SoftPrint Instruction Manual (XCAIB002EN)
1. Unzip the installation file according to your unpacking program.
2. Save the installation file to your local hard disk.
3. Create a new folder on your harddisk with the name: "C:\MW\User\AP-Softprint\".
4. Copy the installation file into the new folder.

Now register the installation file as Microsoft excel add-in. According to your office
program, proceed as follows:
3.3.1 Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP
1. Start Microsoft Excel
TIP The appearance of the dialog boxes, the position and names of the menu vary
depending on the used Microsoft Excel version. Refer to the Microsoft Excel Help
function for additional information.
2. Click "Tools > Add-Ins".

3. Click <Browse> to select the AP SoftPrint add-in.
4. Choose the AP SoftPrint add-in.
5. Click <OK>, to confirm your choice.
6. Click <OK>, to finish the installation.
The add-in is now installed.

3.3.2 Windows Vista, Windows 7
1. Start Microsoft Excel.
2. Click the <Office> icon (Vista) or <File> (Windows 7)
3. Click "Options".
4. Click "Add-Ins".

5. Click <Go...> to browse the available add-ins.
The "Add-Ins" dialog opens.

6. Click <Browse>.
7. Select the file from the AP-SoftPrint installation folder.
AP-SoftPrint is added to the list of available add-ins.
8. Mark the "AP-SoftPrint" check box .
9. Click <OK>, to add the AP SoftPrint add-in.

The menu item AP-SoftPrint is added to the Add-Ins menu.

With Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows XP, the Microsoft Excel menu bar has now an additional AP-SoftPrint menu item. (Examples are shown with Windows 2000.)
With Windows Vista and Windows 7, start AP-SoftPrint from the Add-Ins menu.
This item provides the following options:
• Start data collection
• Information
• Draw Graph

4.1 Starting a data collection
TIP Check the setting of the file name, device interface and format option, before
starting a data collection.
1. Select "AP-SoftPrint > Start Data Collection".
The "AP-SoftPrint" dialog opens.

2. Click <Change...> in the "File" box, to change the name of the file.
TIP The file name is used as diagram title.
3. Click <Change...> in the Settings box.
4. Select or check the preselected COM port of your PC, which is connected to
the instrument.

5. Click <Start> to start the data collection.
The data of the current run is recorded and the start data collection dialog
displays: "Status Waiting for data...".

Additionally three different worksheets are created:
• Multiwave graph - visualizing the collected run data• Multiwave data - containing the complete run data • Multiwave information - containing the instrument’s information
TIP Use start data collection to save and transfer run data of finished runs via review
mode.
The data transfer is completed, if the run data is written into an Excel worksheet.
The header shows the name of the run data kind (time, power, pressure...).

6. Click <Cancel> to close the AP-SoftPrint dialog.
The "multiwave file information", "multiwave data" and "multiwave graph"
worksheets appear.

4.1.1 Starting Real Time Plotting
The option real time plotting gives you the possibility to transfer the real time run
data and to display the live graph of a current run.
1. Select "AP-SoftPrint > Start Data Collection". The AP-SoftPrint dialog opens.
2. Mark the checkbox "Real Time plotting".
3. Click <Start> on your instrument to start the current run.
4. Click <Start> to start real time plotting.
TIP The real time plotting starts after a few seconds.

TIP The performance of your PC might not be sufficient for real time plotting due to
the large data volume. In this case AP SoftPrint will stop processing automatically.
5. Click <Cancel> to quit real time plotting.
4.2 Information
This menu contains information about the instrument, software version and
copyright.
4.3 Drawing a Graph
If you have recorded the run data with AP SoftPrint, you can easily generate the
graph by using the Draw Graph function.
1. Open the Excel sheet with the desired run data.
2. Select the "multiwave data" worksheet.
3. Select "AP-SoftPrint > Draw Graph".

1. Start Microsoft Excel.
2. Choose "Tools > Add-Ins". The dialog box with the list of all add-ins is opened.
3. Clear the checkbox of the "AP-SoftPrint" add-in.
4. Click <OK>.
The dialog box closes and the "Multiwave 3000 / Synthos 3000" menu from the
menu bar is removed.
5. Delete the program files from your local hard disk and from the "Add-ins"
folder.
6. Choose "Tools > Add-Ins".
7. Click on the text "AP SoftPrint for Multiwave 3000 / Synthos 3000.xla" in the
add-in list.
8. Click <OK>.
9. Click <OK>, to confirm that the item should be deleted from the list.
TIP First uninstall the add-ins from the Excal add-ins manager and then delete the
installation file from your hard disk.
