Author’s Note
Sanskrit is a beautiful and logical language. Over the years this language had
lost its usage among the learned and laity alike and was soon regarded as a
difficult language. When I joined the Vedanta Course in 1992, under the tutelage
of Püjya Swami Shridharanandaji at Tamaraipakkam, Chennai, I knew nothing
about the Sanskrit language. During the two and half year course, along with
the sacred Vedänta texts, I learnt and understood the beauty of this language.
My pranams to Çri Kannan, my Sanskrit Teacher, who instilled in me, the love
for this language. Since my first assignment at Trichy, Tamilnadu, in 1995, I
have been trying to spread the magical beauty of the Sanskrit language among
the interested students. I strongly believe that all, irrespective of age, nationality
or religion, can master this language, mistakenly considered to be difficult.
After 12 years of this teaching work, I thought of putting my teaching
materials into a book format. The matter in this textbook is also based on the
feedback I got from the students over the past years.
The need for a workbook was strongly felt when I took these classes.
Therefore a workbook has also been made corresponding to the lessons in the
textbook.
