Easy Screen Capture Using Jing
What is Jing?
• FREE tool! Captures: – Still screenshots – Brief screencasts (5 minutes)
• Great for: – Creating info sheets with visuals – Videos to show how to complete a task
Today’s Objectives
• Capture still image & add additional features • Capture a brief video • Share output using various methods
Setting Preferences
• Jing Sun • Preferences
– Enable video hotkeys – Set capture hotkey – Hide the Jing Sun – Audio Input
• Add an additional microphone other than the computer’s mic.
Image Capture
• Find image to capture • Capture:
1. Enter hotkey combo or click + on the sun 2. Crosshairs display
• Click within the area you want to capture to display capture menu
3. Capture menu displays: • Click image capture icon • Hold down mouse & move box to adjust capture area • Resize box by pulling on edges of box. • Anything in color will be in capture • Click to capture
Additional Features
• Features that can be added to image captures: – Arrows – Text – Frames – Highlighted areas
• Change color of currently selected feature • Undo/redo • Snagit is available for additional editing
Save and Share
• Name your capture – bar below editing window
• Share! – Upload to Screencast.com – Save to computer – Copy (see note) – Cancel
• History tool – Any capture you’ve not cancelled
Note – IE does not allow you to copy and paste an image directly into email. You have to save & then add the image as an attachment.
Your Turn – Image Capture
• Google baby animals • Select the 70 Cutie Baby Animals link • Take your capture • Add additional features • Share with a classmate via email
Video Capture
• Begin capture just like an image capture • Select capture video icon • Important points:
Video Capture - Considerations
• Select something you would like to share via video • Practice walking through it • Capture recording
– Recall hotkeys if you enabled them – Use Pause/Stop toolbar
Save and Share!
• Save and share options: • Screencast.com good for videos
– Video is uploaded to screencast.com – Click View on Screencast.com – Copy & paste URL
Your Turn – Video Capture
• Decide what you want to record • Practice it • Record it • Share via screencast.com • Email link to someone else
