Introduction All products in the FG Series are equipped with a built-in “boot -loader”. This feature is designed save time and effort when updating the controller firmware. The following new features have been added to the FG Series boot-loader:

Boot-loader activation can now be carried out remotely. Manual activation of the boot-loader “service” and “reset” buttons is no longer required.

Firmware upgrading now can be carried out without physical site assistance or (in most cases) attendance.

Firmware file transfer is achieved using a 3rd party FTP client application of your choice.

A third party FTP client application must be used for file transfer. In this user guide, the open source (GNU GPL) FTP program for Windows “FileZilla” is used as an example. If required the “FileZilla” application is available for download at https://filezilla-project.org/ ** Tech Tip: - Regarding the micro SD Cards mentioned within this document it is possible to use standard “off the shelf” retail grade micro SD Cards. Note that Class 4 and Class 10 Micro SD cards are both supported.

Compatibility This user guide only applies to controllers shipped after 1st August 2013. If your device was purchased before 1st August 2013 and does not show compatibility as indicated by following the steps, please contact EasyIO Technical Support at [email protected] for further assistance. Please note that there is no difference between the firmware for an EasyIO FG32 and EasyIO FG20. The same firmware can be used in both model controllers. To confirm the boot-loader compatibility of your device, check for the appearance of the “Version” description in the platform object (“plat”) as shown in the steps below. Step 1 Login to the controller via Sedona Workbench or CPT tool. Step 2 Go to the “service” folder and look at the details of the Platform object (“plat”). Refer to the figures below as a reference to locate the “Version” identifier. If the property “Version” is visible then firmware flashing using the following method is possible. If the property “Version” is not visible then firmware upgrade using this method is not compatible.

This controller above is compatible. The controller above is not compatible.

If your device is not compatible please contact EasyIO technical support at [email protected] for further assistance. **Tech Tip For existing firmware version V2.0.2.0 If the firmware version is V2.0.2.0 you are required to run a sequential upgrade as shown in the two steps below;

1. First upgrade the controller to V2.1.2.0.01. (contain 2 files) 2. Then upgrade to V2.1.2.0.02 or later (contain 1 file)

For existing firmware version V2.0.2.0.01 If the firmware version is V2.0.2.0.01 you are required to run a sequential upgrade as shown in the two steps below;

1. First upgrade to V2.1.2.0.01 ( contain 2 files) 2. Then upgrade to V2.1.2.0.02 or later (contain 1 file)

For existing firmware version V2.1.2.0.02 and above If the firmware version is V2.1.2.0.02 or above sequential upgrade is not presently required simply follow the single step below;

1. Simply re-flash/upgrade to V2.1.2.0.02 or later ( contain 1 file)

Login Details for FTP By default the EasyIOFG Series controller’s login details are as below. This login only allows for firmware upgrade. It will point to the “sdcard” directory. FTP access Username : sdcard Password : 123456 Port : 21 Default IP address : 192.168.10.11 Default Subnet : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway : 0.0.0.0 Note: In order to login, the host PC (laptop) has to be in the same subnet. Example: IP address : 192.168.10.123 Subnet : 255.255.255.0 If user have change IP address for the controller, the FTP client will use the last change IP address.

Precaution

Tech Tip: -**Please ensure you backup the controller Sedona App before running the

firmware upgrade as the Sedona App in the controller will be erased during the flashing

procedure**

Tech Tip: -**during firmware flashing, no power interruption is allowed. Any power interruption will damage the controller and if this occurs the controller cannot be recovered. Ensure the controller is supplied with a constant 24Vac or 24Vdc supply during the flashing procedure** There are two types of flashing files which are explained below. Both types will erase the Sedona

apps in the controller, therefore please ensure a controller back up is performed before the flashing

procedure otherwise the controller App will be lost.

Type Functions Remarks

Factory Default Firmware upgrade Restore back to factory default

Sedona apps will be erase IP address will restore back to default IP address IP address : 192.168.10.11

Maintain IP address Firmware upgrade Remain the last IP address

Sedona apps will be erase IP address will remain the last valid IP address set.

Firmware Upgrade Steps Step 1 Get the required files from EasyIO technical support at [email protected]. Depending on version, quantity of files may differ. See below.

V2.1.2.0.01 and below has 2 files V2.1.2.0.02 and above has only 1 file

Step 2 Open FTP client software, in this case Filezilla. Keyin the login details and connects. Username : sdcard Password : 123456 Port : 21

Step 3 A successful session will display the content of the micro SD card. Go into “fg320” folder.

Tech Tip: - **If using a new SD memory card, create the 2 folders manually in the SD memory card root directory. The folder name MUST be exactly as indicated above i.e. Case sensitive. **

Step 4 The firmware file which is fg320.tar.gz needs to be copied into the fg320 folder. You can copy the files over into the SD card by dragging the file into the “fg320” folder. **Note** You might need 2 files or 1 file depending to the current firmware version of the controller. Important: Please check the file size and compare with the source file. Make sure the file size is correct.

**3 Important Tech Tips**

1. Files need to be transfer/copied into the “fg320” folder. 2. Files cannot be in the root directory of the SD card, they need to be copied into “fg320” folder. 3. If “fg320” folder is not seen, refer to Step 3 above.

Step 5 Login to the Sedona controller via Sedona workbench or the CPT tool and reboot the device. **Tech Tip - The watchdog jumper must be in the “ON” position for the controller to automatically reboot. By default the controller is shipped with the watchdog jumper in the ON position.

Reboot the controller via Sedona workbench.

Reboot the controller via the CPT tool.

Step 6 The controller will reboot and the process of firmware flashing/upgrade will start. The controller Error LED will light up steadily ON during this period.

The process will take approximately 4 minutes. Do not attempt to connect to the controller during this period. DO NOT CYCLE POWER TO THE CONTROLLER DURING THIS PERIOD. It is important to wait and let the flashing/reboot process complete. Wait for the Error LED (ERR) to turn off before powering off or connecting with Sedona tools. Failure to follow this precautionary instruction may damage the controller requiring it to be returned back to factory for repairs or replacement. ** IMPORTANT: DO NOT LOSE POWER DURING THIS PERIOD. POWER LOSS DURING FLASHING WILL RESULT IN PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE CONTROLLER.** Step 8 Once the controller firmware upgrade is complete, the “Error” LED (ERR) will go OFF and the controller will start the Sedona VM.

Step 9 To check that the controller update is successful, login to Sedona and look at the “platform” (plat) in the service folder.

Version property slot shows the version number. The Version noted in the platform object should match the Version downloaded.

Troubleshooting

1. If the ftp client shows “No SD Card”, check the controller SD card slot and make sure there is

a micro SD card is inserted.

**Tech Tip After any micro SD card is inserted into the controller slot, power down the

controller, wait for a minimum of 5 seconds, and after the delay restart the controller.**

2. If the ftp client shows “No SD Card” where a SD card is inserted, power down the FG

controller for 5 seconds and restart.

3. If Controller does nothing after the power cycle following a files transfer, this is most likely due to the necessary files not being in the “fg320” folder. Ensure all files needed are located in the “fg320” folder.
