Local group contacts 16
The new advertisements appear this month: as these
fill the centre pages, the ‘useful telephone numbers’
have been amalgamated with the ‘contact
numbers’ (with the advantage that both can be altered
monthly) and moved to the back page. Also the
calendar/meetings/special events have been condensed
under two headings to save space.
Thanks again to Brian Hollingshead for the use of his
drawings of Leicestershire churches. Last month’s
was Barkby, which—not surprisingly—no-one guessed;
this month is a small village church situated to the east
of Melton Mowbray.

Wedding of JOANNA STRAY & CHRIS POPLE
1.00 pm, 30th June St Denys, Goadby Marwood
E ach one of you we have met in the Parish over the past year has been
so kind, and you have gone out of your way to make us feel welcome. To thank you all for your warmth, we’d like to invite you to join us at our wedding ceremony at St Denys on 30th June. We really would love to see you there, as you have all been an important part of our ‘journey towards married life’ over these past few months. We’d like to give a special thanks to all of you we have met at Eaton, Scalford and Goadby for your kindness, and not least to you two—Beverley and David—for all your support, wit and welcomed advice. We very much look forward to seeing possibly both new and old faces on our big day!

Parish Reading GroupParish Reading GroupParish Reading GroupParish Reading Group
W e discussed North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. This was a very
popular book. We felt it was well written
and, as may be guessed by the title, was a
social history comparing the differences in
class and working environments between the
north and south of England circa 1850.
The northern town was based on Manchester
and we are brought into the lives of the mill
owner and some of the workers to witness
their reactions during a strike.
The only complaint was the very neat and
tidy ending! We awarded it 4 out 5 possible
stars.
The Parish Reading group meets at Goadby
Marwood Village Hall: please feel free to
come along to our next meeting when we
will be discussing Quartet in Autumn by
Barbara Pym, please contact Colette on
