    Safety Guidelines

    Follow these guidelines to ensure general safety:

    • Keep the chassis area clear and dust-free before,

    during and after installation.

    caught in the chassis. Fasten your tie or scarf and roll up

    your sleeves.

    • Wear safety glasses/goggles if you are working under

    any conditions that might be hazardous to your eyes.

    • Do not perform any action that creates a potential

    hazard to people or makes the equipment unsafe.

    • Disconnect all power by turning off the power and

    unplugging the power cord before installing or removing a

    chassis or working near power supplies

    • Do not work alone if potentially hazardous conditions

    exist.

    • Never assume that power is disconnected from a circuit;

    always check the circuit.

    LITHIUM BATTERY CAUTION:

    Risk of explosion could occur if battery is replaced by an

    incorrect type. Please dispose of used batteries

    according to the recycling instructions of your country.

    • Installation only by a trained electrician or only by an

    electrically trained person who knows all the applied or

    related installation and device specifications.

    • Do not carry the handle of power supplies when moving

    to other place.

    • The machine can only be used in a fixed location such

    as labs or computer facilities.

    Operating Safety

    • Electrical equipment generates heat. Ambient air

    temperature may not be adequate to cool equipment to

    acceptable operating temperatures without adequate

    circulation. Be sure that the room in which you choose to

    operate your system has adequate air circulation.

    • Ensure that the chassis cover is secure. The chassis

    design allows cooling air to circulate effectively. An open

    chassis permits air leaks, which may interrupt and

    redirect the flow of cooling air from internal components.

    Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage equipment

    and impair electrical circuitry. ESD damage occurs when

    electronic components are improperly handled and can

    result in complete or intermittent failures. Be sure to

    follow ESD-prevention procedures when removing and

    replacing components to avoid these problems.

    • Wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap, ensuring that it

    makes good skin contact. If no wrist strap is available,

    ground yourself by touching the metal part of the chassis.

    • Periodically check the resistance value of the antistatic

    strap, which should be between 1 and 10 mega ohms

    (Mohms).

    Chapter 1: Introduction

    Thank you for choosing our EBC-310L. The EBC-310L features Intel Celeron J1900 processor. The system supports

    dual LAN as well as HDMI and VGA connectors for high demand of networking and multimedia applications. In addition,

    its fanless design reduces maintenance effort and attributes its longevity.

    The following highlight the features of the EBC-310L system:

    IO Port Description

    Power Button with dual LED ATX Power-on button with LEDs: Standby

    mode in Red; Power-on mode in Green

    USB 2.0 Ports Double-stacked USB 2.0 type A connectors

    COM 1~ COM 4 The serial port consists of a 9-pin, RS232 configured with

    automatic hardware flow control D-SUB connector that

    allows the connection of a serial peripheral.

    COM 1 supports RS232/422/485, To switch among

    RS232/422/485, use the BIOS menu.

    NOTE: This system supports RS232/422/485 on COM1 port. Please refer to below table for the pin

    definition. In addition, COM1 port (RS232/422/485) can be adjusted in BIOS setup utility > Advanced

    Screen > Super IO Configuration.

    IO Port Description

    Power Input

    2-pin terminal block (+,-), +9~36VDC, AT/ATX mode support.

    HDMI The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface).

    This port can support up to 1920x1080 resolutions.

    VGA The displays can support VGA up to 1600x1200 resolutions.

    LAN1 and LAN2

    Two RJ-45 (network) jacks with LED indicators are as described

    below.

    LINK/ACT (Green)

    • On/Flashing: The port is linking and active in data

    transmission.

    • Off: The port is not linking.

    SPEED (Green)

    • Green: The connection speed is 1000Mbps

    • Off: The connection speed is 10Mbps and 1000Mbps.

    3.2 Jumper Settings

    The illustration shows how jumpers are setup. When the jumper cap is placed on pins, the jumper is “Short”. If no jumper

    cap is placed on pins, the jumper is “Open”. The illustration shows a 3-pin jumper whose pin1 and pin2 are “Short” when

    jumper cap is placed on these 2 pins.

    PNL_PWR1 (Panel LVDS VDD Power Selection): Use this to set up the VDD power of the LVDS connector.

    BKT_PWR1 (LVDS Backlight Power Selection)

    Use this to set up the backlight power of the LVDS connector.

  • BLT_PWM1 (Backlight Control Level)

    JGPIO_SET1 (GPIO Default Setting)

    CLRCMOS1 (Clear CMOS Header) CLRCMOS1 allows you to clear the data in CMOS. To clear and reset the system parameters to default setup, please

    turn off the computer and unplug the power cord from the power supply. After waiting for 15 seconds, use a jumper cap

    to short pin2 and pin3 on CLRCMOS1 for 5 seconds. However, please do not clear the CMOS right after you update the

    BIOS. If you need to clear the CMOS when you just finish updating the BIOS, you must boot up the system first, and

    then shut it down before you do the clear-CMOS action. Please be noted that the password, date, time, user default

    profile and MAC address will be cleared only if the CMOS battery is removed.

    PANEL1 (System Panel Header) This header accommodates several system front panel functions.

    WARNING: Connect the power switch, reset switch and system status indicator on the chassis to this

    header according to the pin assignments below. Note the positive and negative pins before connecting

    the cables.

    PWRBTN (Power Switch):

    Connect to the power switch on the chassis front panel. You may configure the way to turn off your system using the

    power switch.

    RESET (Reset Switch):

    Connect to the reset switch on the chassis front panel. Press the reset switch to restart the computer if the computer

    freezes and fails to perform a normal restart.

    PLED (System Power LED):

    Connect to the power status indicator on the chassis front panel. The LED is on when the system is operating. The LED

    keeps blinking when the sys-tem is in S1 sleep state. The LED is off when the system is in S3/S4 sleep state or powered

    off (S5).

  • TPM1 (TPM Header) This connector supports Trusted Platform Module (TPM) system, which can securely store keys, digital certificates,

    passwords, and data. A TPM system also helps enhance network security, protects digital identities, and ensures

    platform integrity.

    CI1 and CI2 (Chassis Intrusion Headers x 2) This motherboard supports CASE OPEN detection feature that detects if the chassis cover has been removed. This

    feature requires a chassis with chassis intrusion detection design.

  • Chapter 4: Hardware Setup

    4.1 Preparing the Hardware Installation

    To access some components and perform certain service procedures, you must perform the following procedures first.

    WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, electric shock, or damage to the equipment, remove the

    power cord to remove power from the server. The power switch button does not completely shut off

    system power. Portions of the power supply and some internal circuitry remain active until power is

    removed.

    1. Unpowered the EBC-310L and remove the power cord.

    2. Turn the device upside down.

    3. Unscrew the 4 rubber feet from the bottom cover.

    4. Open the cover.

    4.2 Installing the System Memory

    The system supports DDR3L memory to meet the higher bandwidth requirements of the latest operating system and

    Internet applications. It comes with one Low-

    Voltage Double Data Rate Three (DDR3L) Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (SO-DIMM) socket.

    1. Align the memory module’s key with the SO-DIMM socket’s notch.

    2. Install the SO-DIMM.

    NOTE: The system can support memory of DDR3L SODIMM up to 4/8 GB depending on the CPU SKU.

    4.3 Installing the Wireless Module and Antenna (Full-Size Card)

    1. Align the wireless module’s key with the Mini-PCIe slot notch.

  • 2. Insert the wireless module into the connector diagonally.

    3. Fix the wireless module with the screw and the internal antenna on the rear IO panel.

    4. Fix the internal antenna cable connector and external antenna for wireless module.

    4.4 Installing the Wireless Module (Half-Size Card)

    1. Align the wireless module’s key with the Mini-PCIe slot notch.

    2. Insert the wireless module into the connector diagonally.

    3. Fix the wireless module with the screw.

  • 4.5 Installing the Disk Drive

    The system can accommodate one Serial-ATA disk drive.

    Follow these steps to install a hard disk into the system:

    1. Align the mounting holes of the HDD/SSD and on the EBC-310L systems as illustrated in the following picture. Fix

    the hard disk on the system by attaching the screws through the back cover from the outside.

    2. Plug the Serial-ATA cable to the disk.

    Chapter 5: UEFI Setup Utility

    5.1 Introduction

    This section explains how to use the UEFI SETUP UTILITY to configure your system. The UEFI chip on the system

    stores the UEFI SETUP UTILITY. You may run the UEFI SETUP UTILITY when you start up the computer. Please press

    or during the Power-On-Self-Test (POST) to enter the UEFI SETUP UTILITY, otherwise, POST will continue

    with its test routines.

    If you wish to enter the UEFI SETUP UTILITY after POST, restart the system by pressing + + , or

    by pressing the reset button on the system chassis. You may also restart by turning the system off and then back on.

    NOTE: Because the UEFI software is constantly being updated, the following UEFI setup screens and

    descriptions are for reference purpose only, and they may not exactly match what you see on your screen.

    5.1.1 UEFI Menu Bar The top of the screen has a menu bar with the following selections:

    Main: To set up the system time/date information

    Advanced: To set up the advanced UEFI features

    H/W Monitor: To display current hardware status

    Security: To set up the security features

    Boot: To set up the default system device to locate and load the Operating System

    Exit: To exit the current screen or the UEFI SETUP UTILITY

    Use < > key or < > key to choose among the selections on the menu bar, and then press to get into the sub

    screen. You can also use the mouse to click your required item.

    5.1.2 Navigation Keys Please check the following table for the function description of each navigation key.

    When you enter the UEFI SETUP UTILITY, the Main screen will appear and display the system overview.

    5.3 Advanced Screen

    In this section, you may set the configurations for the following items: CPU Configuration, Chipset Configuration, Storage

    Configuration, Intel(R) Smart Connect Technology, Super IO Configuration, ACPI Configuration and USB Configuration

    WARNING: Setting wrong values in this section may cause the system to malfunction.

    Instant Flash

    Instant Flash is a UEFI flash utility embedded in Flash ROM. This convenient UEFI update tool allows you to update

    system UEFI without entering operating systems first like MS-DOS or Windows®. Just launch this tool and save the new

    UEFI file to your USB flash drive, floppy disk or hard drive, then you can update your UEFI only in a few clicks without

    preparing an additional floppy diskette or other complicated flash utility. Please be noted that the USB flash drive or hard

    drive must use FAT32/16/12 file system. If you execute Instant Flash utility, the utility will show the UEFI files and their

    respective information. Select the proper UEFI file to update your UEFI, and reboot your system after UEFI update

    process completes.

    5.3.1 CPU Configuration

    Intel SpeedStep Technology

    Intel SpeedStep technology is Intel’s new power saving technology. Processors can switch between multiple frequencies

    and voltage points to enable power saving. The default value is [Disabled]. Configuration options: [Enabled] and

    [Disabled]. If you install Windows® 7 / 8 and want to enable this function, please set this item to [Enabled]. This item will

    be hidden if the current CPU does not support Intel SpeedStep technology.

    WARNING: Please note that enabling this function may reduce CPU voltage and lead to system stability

    or compatibility issues with some power supplies. Please set this item to [Disabled] if above issues

    occur.

    CPU C States Support

    Enable CPU C States Support for power saving. It is recommended to keep C3 enabled, C6 and C7 disabled.

    Enhanced Halt State (C1E)

    Enable or disable Enhanced Halt State (C1E) for lower power consumption.

    No-Excute Memory Protection

    No-Execution (NX) Memory Protection Technology is an enhancement to the IA-32 Intel Architecture. An IA-32

    processor with “No Execute (NX) Memory Protection” can prevent data pages from being used by malicious software to

    execute code.

    Hardware Prefetcher

    Use this item to turn on/off the MLC streamer prefetcher.

    Adjacent Cache Line Prefetch

    Use this item to turn on/off prefetching of adjacent cache lines.

    Intel Virtualization Technology

    When this option is set to [Enabled], a VMM (Virtual Machine Architecture) can utilize the additional hardware

    capabilities provided by Vanderpool Technology. This option will be hidden if the installed CPU does not support Intel

    Virtualization Technology.

    Share Memory

    Configure the size of memory that is allocated to the integrated graphics processor when the system boots up.

    Active LVDS

    Use this to enable or disable the LVDS. The default value is [Enabled].

    Panel Type Selection

    Use this to select panel type.

    Onboard HD Audio

    Select [Enabled] or [Disabled] for the onboard HD Audio feature.

    Onboard HDMI HD Audio

    This allows you to enable or disable the Onboard HDMI HD Audio feature.

    Onboard LAN

    This allows you to enable or disable the Onboard LAN feature.

    Onboard LAN 2

    This allows you to enable or disable the Onboard LAN 2 feature.

    Deep S5

    This allows you to enable or disable Deep S5.

    SATA Controller(s)

    Use this item to enable or disable the SATA Controller feature.

    SATA Mode Selection

    Use this to select SATA mode. Configuration options: [IDE Mode] and [AHCI Mode]. The default value is [AHCI Mode].

    WARNING: AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) supports NCQ and other new features that will

    improve SATA disk performance but IDE mode does not have these advantages.

    SATA Aggressive Link Power Management

    Use this item to configure SATA Aggressive Link Power Management.

    Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T.

    Use this item to enable or disable the S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) feature.

    Configuration options: [Disabled] and [Enabled].

    5.3.4 Intel® Smart Connect Technology

    Intel® Smart Connect Technology

    Use this item to enable or disable Intel(R) Smart Connect Technology. Intel(R) Smart Connect Technology keeps your

    e-mail and social networks, such as Twitter, Facebook, etc. updated automatically while the computer is in sleep mode.

    The default is [Disabled].

    Use this to set parameters of COM1. Select COM1 port type: [RS232], [RS422] or [RS485].

    COM2 Configuration

    Use this to set parameters of COM2.

    COM3 Configuration

    Use this to set parameters of COM3.

    COM4 Configuration

    Use this to set parameters of COM4.

    WDT Timeout Reset

    This allows users to enable/disable the Watch Dog Timer timeout to reset system. The default value is [Disabled].

    5.3.6 ACPI Configuration

    Suspend to RAM

    Use this item to select whether to auto-detect or disable the Suspend-to- RAM feature. Select [Auto] will enable this

    feature if the OS supports it.

    ACPI HPET Table

    Use this item to enable or disable ACPI HPET Table. The default value is [Enabled]. Please set this option to [Enabled] if

    you plan to use this system to submit Windows® certification.

    PS/2 Keyboard Power On

    Use this item to enable or disable PS/2 keyboard to turn on the system from the power-soft-off mode.

    PCIE Devices Power On

    Use this item to enable or disable PCIE devices to turn on the system from the power-soft-off mode.

    RTC Alarm Power On

    Use this item to enable or disable RTC (Real Time Clock) to power on the system.

    USB Keyboard/Remote Power On

    Use this item to enable or disable USB Keyboard/Remote to power on the system.

    USB Mouse Power On

    Use this item to enable or disable USB Mouse to power on the system.

    5.3.7 USB Configuration

    USB Controller

    Use this item to enable or disable the use of USB controller.

    USB 3.0 Controller

    Use this item to enable or disable the use of USB 3.0 controller.

    Legacy USB Support

    Use this option to select legacy support for USB devices. There are four configuration options: [Enabled], [Auto] and

    [UEFI Setup Only]. The default value is [Auto].

    Please refer to below descriptions for the details of these four options:

    [Enabled] - Enables support for legacy USB.

    [Auto] - Enables legacy support if USB devices are connected.

    [UEFI Setup Only] - USB devices are allowed to use only under UEFI setup and Windows / Linux OS.

  • 5.4 Hardware Health Event Monitoring Screen

    In this section, it allows you to monitor the status of the hardware on your system, including the parameters of the CPU

    temperature, system temperature, CPU fan speed, chassis fan speed, and the critical voltage.

    CPU_FAN1 Setting

    This allows you to set CPU fan 1’s speed. Configuration options: [Full On] and [Automatic Mode]. The default value is

    [Full On].

    CHA_FAN1 Setting

    This allows you to set chassis fan 1’s speed. Configuration options: [Full On] and [Automatic Mode]. The default value is

    [Full On].

    Case Open Feature

    This allows you to enable or disable case open detection feature. The default is value [Disabled].

    Clear Status

    This option appears only when the case open has been detected. Use this option to keep or clear the record of previous

    chassis intrusion status.

    5.5 Security Screen

    In this section, you may set, change or clear the supervisor/user password for the system.

    Supervisor Password

    Set or change the password for the administrator account. Only the administrator has authority to change the settings in

    the UEFI Setup Utility. Leave it blank and press enter to remove the password.

    User Password

    Set or change the password for the user account. Users are unable to change the settings in the UEFI Setup Utility.

    Leave it blank and press enter to remove the password.

    Secure Boot

    Enable to support Windows 8 Secure Boot.

    5.6 Boot Screen

    In this section, it will display the available devices on your system for you to configure the boot settings and the boot

    priority.

    Boot From Onboard LAN

    Use this item to enable or disable the Boot From Onboard LAN feature.

    Setup Prompt Timeout

    This shows the number of seconds to wait for setup activation key. 65535(0XFFFF) means indefinite waiting.

    Bootup Num-Lock

    If this item is set to [On], it will automatically activate the Numeric Lock function after boot-up.

    Boot Beep

    Select whether the Boot Beep should be turned on or off when the system boots up. Please note that a buzzer is

    needed.

    Full Screen Logo

    Use this item to enable or disable OEM Logo. The default value is [Enabled].

    CSM

    Enable to launch the Compatibility Support Module. Please do not disable unless you’re running a WHCK test. If you are

    using Windows® 8 64-bit and all of your devices support UEFI, you may also disable CSM for faster boot speed.

    Launch PXE OpROM Policy

    Select UEFI only to run those that support UEFI option ROM only. Select Legacy only to run those that support legacy

    option ROM only. Do not launch?

    Launch Storage OpROM Policy

    When you select this option, it will pop-out the following message, “Save configuration changes and exit setup?” Select

    [OK] to save the changes and exit the UEFI SETUP UTILITY.

    When you select this option, it will pop-out the following message, “Discard changes and exit setup?” Select [OK] to exit

    the UEFI SETUP UTILITY without saving any changes.

    Discard Changes

    When you select this option, it will pop-out the following message, “Discard changes?” Select [OK] to discard all

    changes.

    Load UEFI Defaults

    Load UEFI default values for all the setup questions. F9 key can be used for this operation.

    Launch EFI Shell from filesystem device

    Attempts to Launch EFI Shell application (Shell64.efi) from one of the available filesystem devices.
