From the President

tunate to have the talented
services of our neighbor,
Kristen Mosbaek, as our new editor.
Kristen is a professional designer and
editor. You can see other work she’s done
for her clients at her company website,
www.kristenmosbaek.com. We are lucky
that she is volunteering to help us with
our newsletter. Thank you, Kristen.
Lion’s Roar 5k RaceThanks to everyone who came out and
cheered on the OLOL runners during
the 3rd annual Lion’s Roar 5k race. The
weather was decent for runners but not
so for spectators thanks to the wind and
rain. Over 350 runners of all ages par-
ticipated in the event.

May 2011 East Bethesda Schools Update
has developed information on the impact
on enrollment, school utilization, and
demographics of options. The commit-
tee will not vote on or rank options; they
evaluate the options against the criteria.
The final Committee Report to the super-
intendent and Board of Education (BOE)
will be published in June 2011. The BOE
will make a decision on boundaries and
additions by the end of November 2011.
See the EBCA website for more informa-
tion, complete timelines, and information
on how you can participate.
A new middle school is also being
planned for the B-CC cluster to address
over-utilization at Westland Middle
School, and to allow CC and NCC el-
ementary schools to be reorganized from
Grades 3-6 to Grades 3-5. See the EBCA
webpage for the site selection final report
and Middle School timelines.

May 2011 East Bethesda Schools Update cont. from p1
Schools (MCPS) has stated that reassign-
ments will likely be effective in 2015 at
the earliest.
MCPS divided the service areas for the
four schools into 26 zones to build op-
tions. Zone boundaries were determined
by factors such as school walk areas,
major roadways, stream beds, and no-
through streets. East Bethesda is in two
zones divided at the major no-through
point in our community, with Chestnut
Street and south in one zone, and South
Chelsea Lane and north (Glenbrook
Village) in another zone. MCPS has de-
veloped two possible Boundary Change
Options listed on the EBCA website. Ad-
ditional options may be developed.
The committee developed criteria to eval-
uate boundary change options and im-
plementation issues to consider. MCPS

elections for new officers is coming up on
May 18th. Please contact Kurt Zimmer-
mann at [email protected] if
you would like to run for a position. You
can find a list of executive positions on our
website.
If an elected position is not your cup of
tea, then please consider volunteering for
one of the many committee chairman posi-
tions. This is an excellent opportunity to
meet new neighbors and learn about what
is going on around our community.

The annual EBCA Yard Sale

2011, from 9 a.m. to noon
at Lynbrook Elementary
School. We already have 12
residents signed up to sell items and we
have plenty of room for more. It’s time

the kids involved so they can earn some
spending money too. If you would
like to sell items at the yard sale, please
contact me at jill.chodorov@longandfos-
ter..com or at 202-390-9800 to reserve a
space. Cost is $10 and includes hauling
away any unsold and unwanted items at
the end of the sale. Please make checks
payable to EBCA.
You must be a paid EBCA member to
participate. Please include the EBCA
membership dues of $15 per adult/
household in the payment if you have
not paid for the 2010-2011 year. Also,
contact me if you are interested in volun-
teering at the yard sale (teenager volun-
teers welcome). More information about
the yard sale will be announced next
