Brief about Drafting & Design course:-

What is Auto-CAD?

AutoCAD is a CAD (Computer Aided Design or Computer Aided Drafting) software application for 2D and

3D design and drafting. It is developed and sold by Autodesk, Inc. First released in December 1982,AutoCAD was one of the first CAD programs to run on personal computers, notably the IBM PC. At that

time, most other CAD programs ran on mainframe computers or mini-computers which were connected

What is CATIA Software?

Computer Aided Three Dimensional Interactive Application or CATIA Software is basically engineering

software. It is not specifically meant for engineering, but many of its applications are engineering in

nature. CATIA was written with a mid level computer language called C+++. This is a basic programming

language. It is one of the most popular programming languages because it is easy to use and

manipulate.

CATIA software can be used to sketch, do basic drawings, design parts, and for assembly applications.

The CATIA software is quite compatible with CAD, CAM, and CAE software. When used in conjunction

with these three programs, it allows the operator to gain a multidimensional view of the parts or

process in which they are programming. This allows the operator to stop, enhance, or alter the program

before even one part is made.

CATIA supports and enhances many facets of the development of products. It aids in the design process,

and helps to develop concepts. It is a computer assisted design program that is able to run on a number

of Windows programs. CATIA can also be run on a UNIX program. It has the ability to perform three

dimensional scanning of products as well.

The original intention for CATIA was to aid in the aerospace program. The software was commercial in

nature when it was developed by Dassault Systems. Dassault sought a program that could be

commercially marketed, while at the same time processing the sophistication to design more efficient

aircraft. CATIA today is utilized greatly in the aerospace and automotive sectors.

Its ability to digitally manufacture parts and components has made CATIA an excellent choice in the

production of surface-type creations. Manufacturers such as Toyota, Ford, Porsche, Audi, BMW, andVolkswagon use the automotive abilities to fabricate a number of parts for their vehicles. Some of these

parts include door beams, bumper beams, roof rails, side rails, and body components.

Many architects have found the usefulness of CATIA in the design of buildings. The program allows the

architect to manipulate the design process to achieve the most efficient designs. CATIA also allows for

the introduction of different types of materials to determine the validity of their useage in the erection

process. CATIA has also been integrated into the designs of submarines and super carriers for the United

States Navy.

CATIA has proven useful in a number of fields. Engineering is the most prominent field of use. Software

engineers and Naval engineers have been able to integrate CATIA into their everyday tasks. The

software has enabled them to be more efficient and productive. The same holds true for the

manufacturing fields. With the ability to present digital designs and samples, the operators can

CATIA as well. Lab technicians can see the effects on humans before any type of medication is
