    Why Another Herb Book?

With all of the myriads of books on alternative healingand books on herbology that are on the market today, whywould anyone want to write one more? Frankly, I had nointention of ever writing a book. I only compiled the informationfor my own benefit and my own use. However, whenI began teaching classes, and holding seminars about Godsgentle medicines around the world, the students wouldfrequently say, We dont like taking notes! It is a distractionto our learning process, please just let us copy yourlecture notes. But my lecture notes were never in such aform that I felt comfortable releasing them to people. As thisrequest was echoed and reechoed with every class, I beganto slowly understand that there was a need for yet anotherbook.

What may be unique about this book is corollary towhat is unique about the classes and seminars that I havetaught throughout the years. The title of the book perhapsreveals the secret, however; let me explain further. As aChristian I believe that God created the universe, our world, and the plants for our use. Yet when I would look in the

herbology text books that had been written and compiledthus far, I constantly found that they contained informationfrom spiritualistic or New Age sources. I can only ascribeto Christian theories. I believe that God is our creator andthat it is His intention for us to utilize His natural medicines.I do not believe that these plants are here by accident, nordo I believe that they are here due to some mystical positiveand negative forces. Throughout the years as I developedthis information and compiled it, I filtered out all of thiserroneous information. Many of the books lacked specificinformation about how to use the plants. They would say fora given condition that you had a variety of plants that youcould choose from, but rarely did I find specific information

about a particular plant with safe doses suggested for thatplant. Consequently, I felt motivated to put this informationtogether that I might apply it to my own practice. As I beganto use this information and share it in the seminars, I wasfrequently asked, Why dont you put this in a book? I wasasked often enough, that in spite of the incredible schedulethat I sometimes keep, I have been able to go through andedit the material so that I now feel comfortable in sharing it.I have tried to write the material in such a way that it can beeasily understood by the layperson, even those with limitedknowledge. I have tried to keep the medical terminologysimple and to a minimum.

May the Lord bless you as you explore and put intopractice His method of natural healing.

    Note to the Reader

There are hundreds of medicinal herbs. This book doesnot cover them all. I have chosen to examine those that areused most frequently or are most easily obtained. You mayalready enjoy using an herb not covered in this book. Continueto do so if you are comfortable with it.

    My Special Thanks!

I want to give a special thanks to my wife Lori, whoreluctantly received the job of editing, formating, and doingmost of the typing. To all of the people of my class whobought me that wonderful lap top which made this all possible. Also to Marci, who gave me support and madecontributions to certain portions of the book. A specialthanks to those students and friends for their financial supportand for urging me until I finally got off of dead centerand got the project done. I would also like to extend anappreciation to my children who see me rather infrequentlydue to the type of work that I do. Last but not least I wouldlike to give the biggest thanks to the Good Lord for makingthis information available that I might be able to put ittogether and attempt to bless and help others.

    Kitchen Stuff!

The detailed and specific information in this bookwould be of no practical use if one were not given anintroduction to some of the terms with some instruction ashow to carry out the specifics in the latter section. Throughoutthe book you will find many terms that are used over andover. Unless you are familiar with at least a brief overviewof how to prepare some of these things, you will find itimpossible to actually carry out the instructions that onefinds. I would like to start with some definitions.

    Capsules:

Many people simply buy pre-encapsulated herbs andpay far more than necessary. Most are unaware that thecapsules that they are using are made from animal tissuesand generally that of the pig. It is imperative for optimalhealth especially in these final days of earths history toutilize vegetarian capsules only. These may be obtainedfrom a variety of sources quite freely today. By utilizing asemiautomatic encapsulating device available for approximately$10.00 you may save considerable amounts of money

    by encapsulating your own herbs.

    Decoction:

This is herbal tea referred to using the solid parts ofplants such as the nuts, roots, rhizomes, barks, seeds andheavy stems. It takes physical action to extract the beneficialproperties from these parts of the plant, hence it will take adifferent action than when making an infusion. To make adecoction we place the plant particles in a pan using 1teaspoon per cup of water. Bring this to a low simmer for10-30 minutes. Smaller particles and powders require theleast amount of time, larger particles such as shredded barks

and roots require the maximum time not to exceed 30 minutes.

    Infusion:

Infusion is the terminology used to define an herbal tea.But it specifically refers to the parts of the plants that areused and describes a precise method of preparing thoseparts that will maintain their effectiveness. In makinginfusions we will be using the aerial or the lighter and upperparts of the plant. These parts contain volatile oils that if notprepared carefully will be damaged or destroyed. Theseparts may be used in a fresh or dried form. If using a freshform you will need to use twice as much. Place your herbs, usually 1 teaspoon per cup of water, in a cup, pour boilingwater over them, cover the cup and let it steep until coolenough to drink (15-20 minutes). Sometimes we find itnecessary to make an infused oil. To make an infused oilplace your herbs in a high quality vegetable oil such as oliveor corn oil. Place in a glass jar, cover and leave it in the sunfor 10-14 days, shaking daily. The sun will cause an extractionprocess, and will infuse the herb into the oil. At the endof the days you can strain and store the oil preferably in therefrigerator so it does not get rancid. You may acceleratethe process by taking your glass jar containing your prospectiveinfused oil, set it in a pan of water with the lid loose on

the jar, bring it to a low simmer maintaining this heat forapproximately 2 hours. Remove the jar, strain the infusionafter it is cool and you will have accelerated greatly theprocess of making an infused oil.

    Infusional-Decoction:

Sometimes you will find that it is necessary to combinethe effects of the aerial part of one plant with perhaps thebark of another. In doing this you will be making an herbalpreparation called an infusional-decoction. You have twochoices, you may either make the infusion of the aeria
