Dear Retirees, I want to express to you on behalf of the Minnesota State Uni-versity, Mankato community our appreciation for your years of distinguished service to this University. I am particularly thankful for all of your roles in promoting a successful stu-dent-oriented learning environment. I extend my personal appreciation to you for your work in making our University a place “where people expect to go further than they thought possible.” I hope that you will re-member fondly your many Minnesota State Mankato friends and remain in contact with our University. It has been a pleasure to work with people who care so much. I wish you well as you begin new directions. Sincerely yours, Richard Davenport President

WILLIAM STEIL—Willie began his employment in 1970 and was the Assis-tant Director of the Centennial Student Union. We wish him well in his retire-ment. RICHARD SWANSON—Dick has been a Professor in the Finance Depart-ment since 1974. Dick’s retirement plans involve spending time with his five children and a growing number of grandchildren, traveling to the Pacific Northwest, and building in Wisconsin.

KAREN TAYLOR—Karen was the Assistant Director for Financial Aid Pro-grams in the Student Financial Services Department and began her employ-ment in 2000. She enjoyed working with the students, especially the veterans and aviation students. Karen’s looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren. DOUGLAS WALLEN—Doug has been an Associate Professor in the Psy-chology Department since 1970. While working at Minnesota State Mankato, every day is an adventure. Doug plans on traveling, gardening, volunteering, and music. LINDA WENKEL—Linda has been an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing since 1984. Linda has no definite plans for retirement now except to volunteer, do a little traveling, and enjoy the grandchildren. ROSE WHITE—Rose was the Registration Secretary in the Registrar’s Of-fice and began her employment in 1982. Her favorite experiences were being appreciated by students when she helped them. She plans on traveling, down-sizing, remodeling their house, and tracing her genealogy. KAREN WILLETTE-MURPHY—Karen has been a Professor in the School of Nursing since 1984. One of Karen’s greatest honors was completing a post doctoral fellowship in symptoms management at the University of California – San Francisco. Retirement plans include time with family, friends, and grand-children, planting more flowers, and write memoires. WALT WOLFF—Walt was the Interim Dean of Students and began his em-ployment in 1982. Some of his favorite experiences were the first few weeks of each fall term, the excitement of new students, and helping students be suc-cessful. His retirement plans are to travel. PERRY WOOD—Perry has been a Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Studies Institute since 1976. He’s had 34 years of many wonderful experiences. Perry’s retirement plans are to travel and to spend time with family including six grandchildren. KARLA WORDEN—Karla began her employment in 1974 and was the Administrative Assistant in the Aviation, Counseling and Student Personnel and Educational Studies: K-12 and Secondary Programs. Her retirement plans include traveling, volunteering, reading, and sewing.

CHERYL REGAN—Cheryl began her employment in 1985 as the Di-rector of Special Event Fundraising and Community Relations in the Intercollegiate Athletics Department. Cheryl also developed the Maver-ick Walk for Women’s Scholarships and the Big Bobber Ice Fishing Contest. She plans on spending time with her grandchildren. DIANE RICHARDS—Diane has been an Assistant Professor in the Library Services Department since 1996. We wish her well in her re-tirement. MARLENE ROEDE—Marlene was an Accountant in the Business Services Office and began her employment in 1969. Her retirement plans are to spend more time with family, friends, and to renew old friendships from the past. Fishing will become Marlene’s new hobby. JOHN ROMAS—John has been a Professor in the Health Science De-partment since 1984. We wish him well in his retirement.

ROLLAND ROWE—Rollie began his employment in 1982 and was the Director of Institutional Research. His retirement plans are to tend to various unfinished household projects, restore a Farmall “H” tractor that’s been in the family since 1944, and take time to go fishing. HAMED SALLAM—Hamed has been a Professor in the Computer Science Department since 1984. He is one of the pioneers who estab-lished the CS graduate program. Hamed’s retirement plans include de-veloping a pilot program and application for his pending patent. LOUIS SCHWARTZKOPF—Lou has been a Professor in the Phys-ics & Astronomy Department since 1982. Memorable experiences in-clude presenting the Physics show to school children and giving the Kessel Lecture this year. Lou looks forward to having more time with family and friends. EUGENE SELLNER—Gene began his employment in 1966 as the Director of Application Development in IT. In retirement there will be time now to do more biking, traveling, golfing and working on their perennial garden. DONNA SLUITER—Donna has been an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing since 2003. She enjoyed having the opportunity to be on the Undergraduate Admission and Progression Committee in the School of Nursing. In retirement she hopes to do mission trips, travel, and be with family.

2010 Retiring Faculty and Staff DEBRA ANDERSON—Debra has been a Professor in the K-12 and Spe-cial Programs Department since 1999. Her retirement plans are to travel, read, garden, hike, “scrapbook,” do volunteer work, and become a “snowbird.”

MARY BLIESMER—Mary has been a Professor in the School of Nursing since 1982. A favorite event was celebrating at the School of Nursing Jubi-lee in 2003, 50 years of the School of Nursing. Mary will spend time with her grandchildren and relax with her husband at their cabin. ERNEST BOYD—Ernie has been a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics since 1983. He enjoyed working on the Execu-tive Committee for MSU’s Chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Ernie’s retirement plan is to move to Prescott, Arizona. BEVERLY BRUBAKER—Bev began her employment in 2001 and was a GMW in the Residential Life area. We wish her well in her retirement. KAY DAUFENBACH—Kay began her employment in 2002 working as a GMW in the Building Services Department. We wish her well in her re-tirement. DAN EDWARDS—Dan began his employment in 1983 working as a Sta-tionary Engineer in the Utility Plant. We wish him well in his retirement.

POLLY FRANK—Polly has been a Reference/Instruction Librarian in Library Services since 1985. Polly’s retirement plans are to spend as much time as possible with her baby grandson at his home in New Zealand, work part-time, read novels, sail, and possibly paint again.

GARY GREENFIELD—Gary began his employment in 1987 and was the Director of University Stores. We wish him well in his retirement. BONNIE HUEBSCH—Bonnie began her employment in 1964 in the Registrar’s Office and was the Office Manager and Academic Classroom Scheduler. In retirement Bonnie is looking forward to traveling, volunteer-ing, and keeping in contact with Registrar’s Office retirees.

SANDRA JACKSON—Sandra began her employment in 1988 and worked in the Registrar’s Office as an Official Transcript Coordinator. Sandy and her husband will continue to winter in the South and take more foreign travels. She will also spend time with her grandchildren.

JOHN JANC—John has been a Professor of French in the Modern Languages Department since 1979. He has received numerous honors such as the 2010 Global Citizen Award. He plans to travel, continue working on book projects, and to enjoy life. SANDRA JESSEN—Sandi began her employment in 1993 and was the Director of the Children’s House. We wish her well in her retirement. CHERYL KALAKIAN—Cheryl was the Student Relations Coordinator/Academic Advising in the College of Education and began her employment in 1984. Cheryl plans to enjoy the serenity of her home on Lake Washington and ski at Mt. Kato in the winter.

RICHARD KUNST—Dick worked as the Plant Maintenance Engineer in the Physical Plant Department and began his employment in 1976. JUDITH KUSTER—Judy has been a Professor in the Speech & Hearing Rehabilitation Services Department since 1987. Judy received several awards, including two Senior Specialist Fulbright Awards. Judith’s retirement plans include working on her family history, reading, traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, and cleaning her house! VICKI LANGEVIN—Vicki began her employment in 1979 and was the Executive Assistant in the Office of University Advancement. Vicki’s retirement plans are to spend time with her 96-year-old mother, 2 children, and 12 grandchildren. MARGARET LARSON—Margie began her employment in 1986 and worked as the Study Abroad Coordinator in the International Programs Department. In her retirement Margie has continued to work on her skills as a painter and has opened a studio at the Emy Frentz Art Guild in Mankato. WILLIAM LEWINSKI—Bill has been a Professor in the Law Enforcement Department since 1981. We wish him well in his retirement.

ROBERT LUTZ—Bob began his employment in 2003 and was a car-penter in the Facilities Management Department. We wish him well in his retirement. ANDRZEJ MARKOWSKI—Andrzej has been a Professor in the De-partment of Automotive and Manufacturing Engineering Technology since 1987. He will be moving to Canada to be closer to family. MARLA MASTIN—Marla has been a Professor in the Educational Studies: Elementary and Early Childhood Department since 1995. Her favorite honor was being recognized at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics annual conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. For retire-ment, Marla plans to go wherever the path of life leads her. NANCY MURILLA—Nancy began her employment in 1968 and was the Printshop Supervisor in Printing Services. She has worked with some wonderful people over the years. Nancy’s retirement plans include spend-ing more time reading and watching some of her movies on TV. MARILYN OKLESHEN—Marilyn has been a Professor in the Ac-counting and Business Law Department since 1983. Her most rewarding experience was being chapter advisor for Delta Sigma Pi. Her retirement plans are to travel the USA in a 2010 Camaro.

RON PETERSON—Ron was the Athletic Equipment Manager in the Human Performance Department since 1975. We wish him well in his retirement. REBECCA PIERCE—Becky has been an Instructor in the Biology De-partment since 1990. We wish her well in her retirement. ANN QUADE—Ann has been an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department since 1984. For retirement, Ann’s plans include hiking, gardening, staining glass, and working with women entering or re-entering the workforce.

CAROL RASMUSSEN—Carol began her employment in 1969 and was the Senior Account Clerk in Student Financial Services. She plans on taking the summer off and devoting time to outdoor activities.
