FOLLOWING IS A REVISION PAPER FOR ECDIS

    The definition of Vector Charts

    The definition of Raster Charts

    Review the Raster Chart format

What are the risks of ECDIS?

What are the basic differences between Vector and Raster Charts?

    What is digital spatial data?

What are the appeals of Raster Charts?

What are the concerns of Raster Charts?

What are IHO Standarts and what do they set ?

By which IMO resolution the ECDIS Performance Standarts are specified? What are the names (numbers) of the IHO standarts which specify the operational requirements for Vector and Raster Charts including the standarts for data protection and display details for Vector Charts?

Which umbrella document authorizes ECDIS applications and sets

    standards for performance requirements?

Raster versus Vector advantages and disadvatages?

What is a Raster Chart and what is a ENC? What are their properties and specifications? Compare them and list the appeals and disadvantages of them respectively.

What are some things to consider as far as the risks of ECDIS

What are the specifications of ENCs?

What is the definition of ECDIS

    What does ECDIS mean?

    What is SENC?

    What is RCDS?

    What is WGS-84*

    What is RNC?

    What is DNC?

    What is DoD standart?

What makes up an ECDIS (Block Diagram)? What are the functionsof the

    components?

What is the IMO Resolution code for Revised ECDIS Performance

    standarts?

What is the IMO Resolution code for ECDIS Performance standarts?

What is the difference between Dual ECDIS and Single ECDIS?

What is the difference between ECDIS and ENC? What are the requirements for an ENC system to be accepted as an ECDIS?

What is COG, through where is it received ?

What is SWT, where is it received from?

    What is safety contour?

    What is safety depth?

What is the difference btwn safety contour and safety depth?

What is the relation btwn Chart scale and the area covered?

What is the main function of CONTROL PANEL (RIGHT SIDE PANEL

    BAR)

What is the main function of TASKS LISTS MENU? (BOTTOM PANEL)

What main TOOLS/BUTTONS are contained within TASKS LISTS MENU

    (BOTTOM PANEL)

What main PANELS are contained within RIGHT SIDE PANEL

    BAR(CONTROL PANEL)?

How is the diagram of the ECDIS Display/Monitor? What are the names of

the panels (including their locations on the display/monitor). What are

the names of some of the menus that are found in the two major panel

(Check Functionality Panel and Display Mode Panel)?

On what type of charts can ZOC values be displayed?

What is Own Ships Past? What is the info contained? is the frequency

    of the records

What are WARNINGS, ALERTS and INDICATIONS. In what colour those

    functions appear on the screen.

What type of alarms exist in ECDIS to provide for safe navigation? Name them and explain which is set by using which menu and tabs?

What purpose the route planning needs to be checked for? What are the pertinent safety parameters? (You will possibly receive alarms or warnings if the pertinent set safety parameters are exceeded upon checking is completed). What do you need to do to start check route? How do you accept the route checking results?

What needs to be done before accepting the route checking results? What should you do to minimize the amount of alarms as you review your voyage planning and safe navigation concerns?(Name three of your options).

When the license of the ENC expires what happens. What do you see on

    the screen?

What colours can be selected for RADAR Echo overlays?

How do you make the voyage planning by using ECDIS tools? Explain in detail what do you do and how do you this in each method? Following is given as a reminder: Star with ordering the required charts, explain the process, elaborate on finalizing route planning then continue with route checking and finish with monitoring.

(Reminder continues): Explain for what purpose each procedure is carried out? Remember the 7 steps but do not confine (limit) yourself with just writing the bullets, but make comprehensive explanations.

How do you calculate your Safety Depth? What is Block Coefficient? What is the formula? How do you calculate SQUAT value? What isthe formula? What is Displacement? What is metric ton? What is the difference between metric ton in in fresh water as opposed to metric ton in sea water and how do you convert displacement (normally given for fresh water) to sea water value taking into account the spesific gravity of sea water? (Note that displacement is given for displaced volume of fresh water. 1m3 fresh water = 1 metric ton) What do you compare your safety depth with? Is chart datum (sea depth at that position) a criteria to be taken into account? How do you decide whether or not the UKC is permissable for safe passage?

As far as safety of navigation is concerned, the alarms for safety of the depth should normally follow which sequence?

How many methods are there for planning a route?

Which one the Tabs of the Panel Switch is chosen to start route planning by waypoints (GRAPHIC METHOD)?

How do you initiate Route Planning by Schedule (TABULAR METHOD)? Reminder: When using the Tabular Method for Route Planning, to enter the waypoints manually which tabs you should utilize on the control panel?

Which one of the menus of the Task List is selected to open the Route Planning Table?

Which button/tab you should click on to create a new route?(How is this done in each method differently?)

What do you do when your waypoints have come to an end (you have completed your route planning as to WP application)?

What is the purpose of giving a name to the route that you have planned?

Which Extra Data you may enter to assist you in your current Route Planning?

The reference points in route planning are normally selected by the system. How do you change or edit a reference point?

If the Voyage Planning is to be done for a Great Circle , you may use the ADVANCE PLANNING TOOL. To do this which one of the Buttons should be selected on the ROUTE PLAN to convert the rhumb line distance to great circle distance calculation?

What is the need for giving names to routes and/or waypoints?

What is the purpose of monitoring the route when everything is completed in a route planning process?

Why does an (*) sign appear at the right top side of the route name each time you make a change in your Route Planning

  • 4

When you enter ETD and Speed value in the functional table, which one of the following calculated results will be displayed after schedule calculation has been completed? (In which method this is seen?)

Tidal currents and surface currents may be taken into account in calculations. What should you do to to integrate these values into calculations?

Which symbol you should click on if the current alarm is not visible on the chart panel? IMPORTANT NOTE: WHEN YOU FIND OUT ALL THE ANSWERS WHICH ARE RELETED WITH ROUTE PLANNING, WHICH ARE RESIDING IN THIS PAPER IN A MIXED FASHION, YOU HAVE THE COLLATE THEM AND LINK THEM TOGETHER IN A SEQUENCE SO THAT THEY SHALL ALL MAKE UP AN ANSWER FOR THE WHOLE PROCESS OF ROUTE PLANNIG INCLUDING VARIOUS METHODS. THIS WILL FORM A COMPREHENCE ANSWER FOR ALL THE ASPECTS OF ROUTE PLANNING AND PERTINENT ACTIONS PERFORMED WITH ECDIS TOOLS.
