August 2020 let us hope it brings about some positive progress in all aspects of life right now. My hope is that the number of positive COVID-19 tests stop going up very soon. I really wish we could see the number of active cases and the number of recovered patients as a part of the available data to give us a greater idea of the reality of the current situation. However, not having to make that differentiation would be even better. That’s enough of COVID-19 talk. I hope you are enjoying your summer so far. I don’t know about all of you, but my yard has never looked better! I took advantage of the restricted period to do some work around the house. I must have planted over 20 bushes or trees on the property this year. I took down some dying (or already dead) pine trees in my yard and discovered that they had been very useful in blocking out the sight and noise of the road traffic. I thought about replacing the trees with a fence, but then decided that bushes would be a better option, so I planted a row of burning bushes, capped off on each end with a rose bush. I planted two new apple and pear trees, a honeysuckle bush, two other rose bushes, two reblooming lilacs, and countless Rose of Sharon starts kindly provided by a co-worker. I also added some bee balm plants (or flowers) to help our little pollinating friends. I must admit, I really enjoy walking around to check on their progress a few times a week. One of the reblooming lilacs seems to have been stunted by the May snow and frost, but I think, just like everything else, it will recover. As I mentioned last month, Active Aging centers are open and providing limited activities and services. We are doing so and still maintaining appropriate social distancing, wearing masks, limiting attendance, and requiring temperate checks upon entrance. In July we be-gan offering exercise classes again, either at appropriate social distances for classes that require very little changes in space, or outdoors for classes that require more movement. Outdoor classes are held, as much as possible, earlier in the day to avoid the heat. If you have an activity you normally enjoy, please call your center to determine if it is currently available. If it is not available currently, we are always looking for suggestions on how to make those activities safe under the current guidelines. Please take care

From the Foundation Aug. 2020 Remember how time was dragging back in April? Notice how fast it goes when we get some sunshine and warm temperatures? What’s the deal with that?? It’s definitely a strange time we are living in right now. We have returned to the office full-time and agency employees are doing our best to provide what the senior citizens living in Craw-ford County need. The Foundation is so grateful for the support shown by our com-munity during this time. It is rewarding to know that so many want to make a difference in the lives of senior citizens and their families in Crawford County. I always tell people how much I did not know about the agency before I started working here. We’ve resumed our weekly bingo game with several precautions to keep our players and staff safe. As I write this, we are 2 weeks away from hosting our 25th annual charity golf scramble. Hopefully, it went off without a hitch, a fun time was had by all and we raised lots of money! I can’t assume anything though, because we all know how things have been changing so quickly. What will not change is the fact that we are here to support the mis-sion and activities of Active Aging, Inc., and we do that by presenting opportunities for you to make the difference that I spoke of earlier. The Active Aging Foundation is participating again in Crawford Gives on August 10th and 11th. During this forty-eight hour period of on-line giving, a portion of the prorated match pool will be added to each donation you make to AAF when you donate through the website, crawfordgives.org. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the Foundation or opportunities for giving.

Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC) exist nationwide. In Pennsylvania, ADRC is known as the Pennsylvania Link to Aging and Disability Resources, commonly known as the PA Link. It is designed to be a cross-age, cross-system network of local, regional, and state partner agencies that col-laborate to help individuals who need home and community based services and supports. This coordinated network of partners allows a consumer to initiate contact with any PALink partner and access information, assis-tance,and resources through a “no wrong door” approach, thereby minimizing consumer and provider duplication, reducing confu-sion, streamlining access, and creating much needed “safety nets”.PA Link partners represent a wide range of local human service and healthcare providers as well as community leaders, civic organiza-tions, state agencies, and other groups such as consumer, advocacy, and faith organizations. PA Link partners strive to help the following populations, regardless of income: adults age 60+, individuals living with any type of dis-ability, persons living with behavioral health or substance abuse issues, Veterans, and the caregivers and family membersof these populations. The mission of the PA Link to Aging and Dis-ability Resources is to assemble and strength-en an organized alliance of private and public community agencies to better support con-sumer wishes and empower them to under-stand, determine and effectively navigate their long term care service options, regard-less of age, ability or income.A toll-free statewide ADRC helpline is oper-atedby trained staff who assist Pennsylvanians looking for information on long-term living services and supports. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday - 8:30am to 5pm (excluding holidays). #1-800-753-8827
What is PA Link? Pennsylvania Link to Aging and Disability ResourcesThe Pennsylvania Link to Aging and Dis-ability Resources is a program of the Penn-sylvania Department of Aging. Commonly referred to as the PA Link, this network of lo-cal, state and federal partners works together to provide information on, and improved ac-cess to, long-term care services and supports to all Pennsylvanians regardless of age, abil-ity or income.
