Who are we? • Network of secondary
students from various high schools in the Vancouver district
• Act as representatives for all schools, including elementary schools
• Approximately 30 students
• Youth-driven and first of its kind
• Supported by the VSB, including Kevin Millsip, Sustainability Coordinator
What do we do? •Meet together weekly at
the VSB• Plan big Earth Day event,
discuss district-wide goals on sustainability, and work on green initiatives
• Invite other schools, organizations or groups to collaborate
Goals - Education1.) Education • raise awareness through
presentations at elementary schools
•encourage and work with elementary students to get involved and start their own green projects

programs and policies, which include uniform recycling and composting systems
• connect with community and local organizations for resources
Goals - Networking3.) Networking• continue to network
and connect with other schools within the district
•work together for a common goal
•hope to expand to other school districts (Burnaby, Surrey)
Plans so far…• An Earth Week for all
secondary and elementary schools to participate in
• 3rd week of April 19th – 23rd
• Each day of the week will be associated with a theme (Monday: Energy, Tuesday: Awareness etc.)

Tuesday - Awareness
Wednesday – 4Rs
Thursday - Transportation
Friday – Hope, Home
-encourage classes to turn off lights for an hour
-raise awareness through videos and other presentations
-educate students on reducing, reusing, recycling, and rethinking; hold a “recyclable” fashion show
-encourage students to take alternate transportation (bus, biking)
-taking back your goals back home; Hope Banner to
Earth Day • Thursday, April 22nd, 2010• Plan to hold a parade on
the Cambie Street bridge • Parade down to Science
World for a big, festive Earth Day event
• Bring awareness and spread the concept of sustainability and the importance of living in a healthier, greener city
• The bringing together of people focusing on the youth of Vancouver including elementary, secondary, and university students
