Annual General Meeting

It is a recycling collection scheme set up by street children foundation KDM, offering a solution to Jakarta’s waste problem, while benefiting its work in supporting the development of street children into independent, educated and skilled young adults.

KDM currently supports around 80 former street children from around the Greater Jakarta area. By joining the Green Project your recyclable waste can help our children to learn about sustainability and generate local job opportunities and income that supports KDM’s education and health programs for street children, as well as helping to solve Jakarta’s waste/garbage problem.

Join our Green Project today simply by dropping your dry waste at the garbage bins provided right across the service lift at the P1 level of each tower.

Cleaning up Jakarta and helping its street children is the main goal of KDM Green Project program.

New manual water pump to provide alternative source of clean water and Public Toilet and Bath facilities donated by The Pakubuwono Residence at the neighboring community RT 9 as part of our social awareness program. Easter Eggs Painting at The Pakubuwono Residence

As part of the Easter Celebration, The Pakubuwono Residence had arranged for the children’s traditional Easter Egg painting activity on 28 March 2013. About twenty four (24) kids joined the fun with their hands busy with brushes and paints showing off their creativity painting the eggs in various vibrant colors and arranging them in a well decorated basket. We have provided them with acrylic paint, markers, ribbon, scissors, accessories decoration, glue, hays, cupcake paper, velt fabric, etc to complete their day! The excitement from the kids ranging from ages 3 – 12 years old was visible and audible during the entire activity. story

About fourteen (14) kids had so much fun on 22 April 2013 who were all proud with their photo frames. The children decorated the frames with the jumping clay. It was indeed beautiful to see these kids having their imagination captured on the frame. There were varying exciting designs of flowers, clouds, batman, dragonflies, clown, etc. The children got so excited and engrossed in the activity that they did not want to stop. Each one had inserted his or her own photo inside the frame beautifully which made their parents proud of the kids. What a wonderful moment for our children placing their work of art in their bedrooms stared at it and smiled of their achievement.

Kids and Eco-Friendly Activities

1 Plant a gardenPlant a garden with your children as a hands-on introduction to

the natural world. Have them help you dig and plant seeds, and keep a record of plant growth if desired. Talk to them about growing your own food and purchasing produce from local farmers’ markets. You can also teach your children how to care for plants, which can lead to bigger about responsibility.

2 RecycleOur world comes with limited sources, and it’s very important

for us to conserve them. Teaching your children to recycle their empty plastic bottles and used or unwanted paper can benefit the environment in a number of ways. Recycling your plastic bottles means they can be re-used and they wont pile up on beaches and land. Plastic cause a huge problem on beaches as turtles often mistake plastic bags as jellyfish and end up sick.

3 Turn off LightsThe best ways to conserve energy is to shut off lights that are not

in use.One of the biggest energy-waste in houses. Teaching your children this good habit will encourage them to continue it for a lifetime, also saving both of your money.

Spring’s renewal makes us grateful for the presence of both nature and nurture. We celebrate Mother Earth for her ability to fade winter’s cold darkness into the sunrise of a new season. In this time of rebirth, we also celebrate our own mothers, remembering those who planted our roots, tended our soil and watched us grow.

Here are some ways to honor Mother Earth by getting our children involved in Eco-friendly activities around the house :

4 Clean Up TrashPeople are often careless and will not bother to put their

trash in the appropriate bins. This can cause much harm to the environment. Teaching your children to pick up trash when they see it can be an effective way to assist the environment and get them involved in Eco-friendly activities.

5 Turn Off FaucetsFaucets and kitchen sinks are often left on longer than they

need to be, and as a result, this waste a large amount of water. Water is earth’s most precious resource and it helps sustain life as we know it. Helping to conserve water can ensure that there is enough water for both humans and wildlife to survive. It will also ensure that our planet is safe and care for when further generations come.

Furniture art from recycled elements is often strikingly beautiful. Many modern and contemporary recycled furniture designs are now made using reclaimed or recycled wood, paper or metal. Most interesting about this functional artwork are the combination of original elements that give retired materials a fresh and appealing look their second time as old-but-new furniture designs.

Recycle a Camping StoolHave an old camping stool that you don’t use anymore? Why don’t you give a new life to the little guy?

Keep in mind, If you don’t have a camp stool you can use anything with legs and add a tray to the top! Be creative! Use what you have! You can add whatever makes you smile to this tray.

Coat RackA pallet coat rack is also very easy to make. You actually only need one piece of wood. Sand it a little and cut it to the desired dimensions. Add some hooks and hardware to help you attach the hanger to the wall and you’ll get a lovely coat rack for your hallway or entryway. You can alternate hooks with doorknobs, great for hanging bags and purses. Shoes RackHere’s another very useful item you can make using a wooden pallet: a shoe rack. It’s great for the entryway or even for the kids’ room. The idea is very simple. You just need to find a pallet, sand it, maybe even paint it and place parallel to the wall. You can change its dimensions if you want. No other changes are necessary.

Kamboja

Bali

Cambodia/Kamboja or Plumeria is classified as flowering plant that can reach hundreds of years old comparable to giant cactus. This plant is of succulent type such that it can store water in all parts of its body, from the root, stem, leaf, flower, up to its fruit. It has several close relatives, such as Pachypodium, Adenium (Japanese Cambodia), and Mandevila, but even under one family, each type differs in flower shapes and colors. The great thing about this tropical plant is that it is flowering

essence of nature

Kamboja Bali at The Pakubuwono Residence

throughout the year, sturdy, and easily adapts to various climates. The plant comes from Mexico region Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and spreads through out Asia including Indonesia and popularly called “Kamboja Bali”.

A useful addition to ornamental plants, its stem has a Frangipani sap containing resin, a type of rubber compound, triterpenoids amytin and Lupeol which can quell the pain and swelling and even cracking of the soles. It also has a Plumeirid containing compounds, that are toxic glycosides. Due to its toxicity, it can kill germs. The Frangipani sap at the right dosage can be a medicine and is a useful cure for toothache or injury. However, the sap can cause blindness if it accidentally penetrates the eye.

Its flower can be used to prevent arthritis or uric acid (used as a tea), reduce fever, stop coughing, stop diarrhea due to dysentery, prevent fainting due to heat and can cure constipation (if consumed in large quantities). The frangipani flowers can be used as a mixture of soap, insect repellent, and perfumes due to its fragrance.

Dr. Gunawan, a masters in Biology at IPB), explains that the kamboja sap ripens the boils and can soften corns and warts. And another medicinal benefit, although it is still in the research stage is the fulvoplumierin compound contained in the leaves, stems and frangipani roots which are found to inhibit the development of TB germs, dysentery, inflammation of the respiratory tract including hepatitis.

The Kamboja Bali plants play an abundant part of The Pakubuwono Residence landscapes providing shades and beauty in a tropical setting.
