Overview

ECO Singa pore is organising a n ECO Living Programme fo r b loc ks 1 to 8

at Lorong Lew Lian in conjuction with Braddell Heights Zone ‘B’

Reside nts’ Co mmittee (RC) with vo luntee rs from Sta rbuc ks.

ECO Living Prog ramme is a c om munity g rassroo ts p rog ramme tha t a ims

to relief the burden of low/ middle-income families while doing our bit

for the Earth. We will do this by performing energy, water and waste

audits in HDB households in order to identify and advise on areas for

improvement. It would be a yearlong programme that will continuously

engage residents and encourage them to make a commitment to

change.

This aud it wa s the sec ond one for Lorong Liew Lian and foc used on the

theme of “ water” .

audit. At 9.30am, a briefing was conducted to run through with thevolunteers the p roc ed ure to follow when v isiting the residents.

Once the volunteers were clear on their tasks they were told to divide

into pairs. Each pair was assigned 1 block.

At 10.15am, the volunteers collected their logistics. Each group would

get a reusable bag containing the resident info sheets, water audit

checklists, a lanyard, a clipboard, reminder medals, stickers, and the

water-saving kit from the Public Utilities Board

(PUB), which includes thimbles.

The vo lunteers then fanned out to the va rious

blocks.

By 11.45am, all the volunteers had completed

their allocated units and returned to the

Community Ha ll.

After all the logistics were collected, a debrief

was conducted. At 12.30pm, the programme

offic ia lly ended .

Results

A total of 48 households went through the energy audit. Most of the rest

were not a t home or were too busy.

Feedback

Although the volunteers who came enjoyed themselves, the small

number of volunteers meant that each pair had to cover more

households.

In future, ea rlier notice will be g iven to Sta rbuc ks to c a ll for volunteers.

We are also contacting other institutions to check if they are interested

in send ing voluntee rs.
