• With the passage of the 1934 Forest Act, selected forest areas of national importance were delineated and constituted into Forest Reserves, most of these had been formally constituted in 1957.
• As of 1995, the Forest Reserve of Brunei Darussalam constituted about 40% of the total land area. A further 15% has been proposed for gazettement. This will fulfill the 55% - commitment embodied in the 1989 National Forestry Policy.
