ECO-TOURISM, INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT INTRODUCTION:
Chhattisgarh is a newly formed State a part of Central Indian Plateau, on the
deccan trap situated in the heart of India. It has 1,35,153 Sq. Km. Area bearing more than
1.761 crores of the human population.It has 5 Rajya Sabha, 90 Vidhan Sabha seats. It is
divided in 16 district for better administration.

25’ EAST LONGITUDE. Chhattisgarh abounds with hilly region and plains. It receives an
annual average rainfall of 60 inches. Rice is the principal crop of the state. Uttar Pradesh to
the North, Jharkhand to the North East, Orissa to the east, Andhra Pradesh to the south-east
and south, Maharashtra to the south-west, Madhya Pradesh to the west and north-west form
its boundaries.
The formation of new state caused a great demand for the natural recreation and
amusement center within the state. The BARNAWAPARA is the nearest place for eco-
tourism, as it has already a status of Sanctuary, rich in wild animal with picturesque sites.
TURTURIA has a famous centaury old historical temple. DEVPUR is famous for the
Mahadeve Temple and Devedhara water fall.
The BARNAWAPARA sanctuary derives it's name from Bar and Nawapara forest
villages which are close to each other and situated in the core of the Sanctuary. The
Sanctuary lies in between 800 22' 30'' to 82

To quench the thirst of natural recreation of the people was launched under the able
guidance of Honourable Chief Minister Shri A.P. Jogi, 2 days package tour after
establishment of primary level facilities for the tourists in BARNAWAPARA, Turturia &
Devpur.
The project would provide better facilities to the people of Chhattisgarh & is
capable of attracting foreign tourist by providing services of international standard. Thus
this project is badly needed to harness the Eco-Tourism potential of the state.

2. THE VISION
The Vision is to develop a tourism center in a sustainable and acceptable manner,
taking full advantage of regional and international trends and developments so that it will
significantly contribute to the continued improvement of quality of life in the Chhattisgarh
while promoting & conserving the State's & Country’s cultural and natural heritage.
3. OBJECTIVES
1. Contribute to a better quality of life for the Chhattisgarhi population;
To achieve this object there is a need to:
a. The selection of priority tourist zones, adjusted to the current situation;
b. Regional development,
c. Up-grading of domestic eco-tourism;
d. Promotion of rural tourism;
e. Assistance to the development of social and youth tourism.
2. Contribute to the rehabilitation, conservation and protection of natural and man-built
property, especially that of ecological and historical value and to add value to the
cultural property.
To achieve this object there is a need to:
a. Provide a balanced planning of the areas;
b. Protect natural environments
c. Safeguard monuments and protect the surrounding spaces;
d. Give incentives to the development of handicrafts and folklore.
3. Send to the world a prestigious image of CHHATTISGARH.
To achieve this object there is a need to:
a. By providing world class infrastructure facilities in the Barnawapara Sanctuary.
b. By providing best staying facilities
c. By creating picturesque landscape around the stay points.

4. CLIMATE
The Climate of Chhattisgarh is mainly tropical, humid and sub-humid. The climate is
hot because of its positioning on the tropic of cancer. May is the hottest month and
December-January are the coldest ones. The state is completely dependent on the monsoons
for rains. Chhattisgarh has an average rainfall of 1200 mm.
5. LINKAGE
All the 3 places are well connected with road transportation medium only.
1. DEVPUR: It is connected through the N.H. 6, at the distance of 116 km. From Raipur on
Pithora – Kasdol P.W.D. road. It is 16 km. From the Pithora.
2. BARNAWAPARA: BARNAWAPARA is 86 Km. from the RAIPUR district head
quarter. It is approachable in open season by Patewa Baranwapara Forest road, 17 kms.
from Patewa. Pithora - Kasdol P.W.D. Road via Deopur is alternative approach. Patewa
and Pithora are located on N.H.6 at a distance of 66 kms.and 101kms.respectively rom
Raipur.
3. Turturia: It is on the Kasdol P.W.D. road at 30 km. From Mahasamund and 45 km. From
Kasadol on the bank of Balamdei river.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT PLAN PHASE I
1. DEVPUR:
In the first phase following infrastructure development works and facilities for the
tourists would be under taken.
1. CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW REST HOUSE BUILDING.
It has following special features in the design, considering climatic factors:
1. The proposed building has Ventilations, Clay Tiles & Central Air Duct for:
� Supply of Fresh Air.
� Convective Cooling.
� Physiological Cooling
� Minimum heat radiation through roof.
� Whatever is direction of wind air would always enter from all the directions
through the window in the building due to sucking power of Central Air
Duct i.e. unidirectional flow of air.
2. Walls would be made by hallow bricks for:
� Minimum heat exchange through conduction i.e. thermal insulation.
� Maximum sound absorption acoustic feature.
The double story rest house would be cool and calm having several facilities,
some of them are:
� Provision of eco-friendly envelop cum vehicle – corridor up to second
floor, which would also act as air funnel to condition ( cool and
fresh ) the air before entering in the rooms.
� Provision of space for indoor games.
2. RENOVATION WORK IN OLD REST HOUSE.
� Replacement of roof by clay tiles
� Re-plastering & Finishing.
3. RENOVATION OF INSPECTION HUT.
� Replacement of roof by Manglore tiles.

3. TURTURIA:

FURNISHING: All the accommodation will have to be refurnished to provide luxurious
environment in the place. New furnitures i.e. Sofa set, Double bed , Dining set etc. will have
to be procured. An approximate cost has been added in the project.
LANDSCAPING: Landscaping around all the above structures and BARNAWAPARA Rest
House would be done considering following important features:
� Solar Radiation.
� Wind direction.
� Environmental Vastu.
� Noise.
� Green screen.
� Aesthetic design.
LNC AQUA HARVESTREAT SYSTEM: Installation of LNC Aqua Harvestreat
System in all the buildings would be done. This system would ensure domestic sewage
treatment cum roof water harvesting. The water treated with the system would be used in
Gardening, Landscaping, Toilet flushing and recreation i.e. operating fountains.

Display boards :-
Display boards in Raipur, juncture point of approach road & N.H., Rest House
Campus, Waiting Rooms and watch towers would be placed unfolding the importance &
relation between man and animals.
Watch Towers , View Points :-
Watch Towers and Pagodas would be constructed at Turturia and other selected
points so as they will act as Watch Tower & View Points.
Literature :-
A folder having all the details would be available with the local authority.
Films and slide shows :-
Films and slide shows will be arranged once in a month with the help of wild life
wing of Forest Department to acquaint people with the wild life.

and would be completed in the year 2003-2004 with the total expenditure
