II Super Designer Initiative Pilot Project

The primary driver behind the SDI Pilot Project is to address a need within the Alberta landscape to improve productivity by embracing a culture of collaborative and concurrent design.

Concurrent design in your industry would consider all aspects of a construction project’s life-cycle (functionality, assembly, maintenance, etc.) at the same time, in a forward-planning approach.

CATIA V6’s integrated data management architecture and its ability concurrent input along a value chain is anticipated to create significant impacts on productivity.

The Alberta economy is driven by an entrepreneurial culture that weaves large firm financial capacity and stability with Alberta small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) risk-taking mindset and doer attitude. SME firms are viewed as the engine of the economy and this status gives them a respected visibility that can influence technology diffusion.

The firms that have been selected to participate in SDI have committed to share their experience. This is very important to the government funders as they want SDI to serve as an industry development investment than can both entice discussions about productivity improvements and entice industry to make scalable investments in best-in-class proven technologies that support this end.

Stakeholders (Core Funder Group): • NRC-IRAP • Productivity Alberta • Alberta Ministry Employment and Immigration • Alberta Ministry Finance and Enterprise, Aerospace and Defense
