Why Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg And Google Founders Larry Page And Sergey Brin Take Home A $1 Dollar Salary

Several CEO s take low salaries including Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin,Former Oracle CEO Lar-ry Ellison,Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg,Apple Founder Steve Jobs who take just $1 every year in salary.Steve Jobs always had a $1 salary (except for 2001, when Apple gifted its founder a private jet plane). Former Or-acle CEO Larry Ellison used to take $1 in salary but was routinely among America’s highest-paid CEOs because he took home a ton of stock awards.

Although Amazon has paid Bezos the same salary since 1998 which is $81,840 he used to get paid less. In 1997, he made $79,197, and in 1996 he took home $64,333. Amazon was founded in 1994, but it only started reporting its finances when it went public in 1997.Bezos however has received $1.6 million in security-related services and business travel each year since 2010 and at least $1.1 million since 2003 when the company first started reporting security expenses as part of Bezos’ total compensation.

Mark Zuckerberg has aslo drawn a base salary of $1 for the past three years and his “other” compensation was $22.6 million, most of which was for his personal security.Nearly $20 million went toward security for Zucker-berg and his family, up from about $9 million the year prior. Zuckerberg also received $2.6 million for personal use of private jets, which the company said was part of his overall security program.

Google Employees Demand Google To Address Sexual Harassment Cases At Alphabet.Inc

Alphabet employees are now demanding audience with Google’s CEO Larry Page or they stage a global walk-out and sit-in protest. The employees used Medium an online platform in their group Google Walkout For Real Change said the internet giant has had six months to meet these demands before they take further action.

Last November, nearly 20,000 Google employees across the world walked out following the company’s mishan-dling of sexual harassment allegations.

Amazon to launch free music-streaming serviceAmazon Music, which comes under the e-commerce service’s Prime benefits, is limited to the members who pay for the subscription that covers priority delivery, music, and video streaming as well.

Amazon is now looking at introducing a new free music streaming service to rival Spotify. According to Bill-board, Amazon has entered into discussions to launch a free, ad-supported music service. The service would be marketed through Amazon’s Alexa-enabled Echo speakers.

However, the purported service would offer a limited catalogue. To offer the music for free, Amazon has also offered to pay some record labels per stream. The service is likely to launch as early as next week.

MacKenzie Bezos Becomes Fourth Richest Woman After Divorcing Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos

Amazon Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos will retain 75% of his stock in the company following his divorce from MacKenzie Bezos, to whom he has been married for 25 years, the couple announced on Twitter.

Bezos will remain the largest shareholder of the e-commerce giant valued at almost $900 billion as well as gain-ing voting control of his former wife’s remaining shares. Bezos will also maintain ownership of The Washington Post and his space exploration company Blue Origin.

“Grateful to have finished the process of dissolving my marriage with Jeff with support from each other and everyone who reach out to us in kindness,” MacKenzie Bezos wrote on Twitter. “Happy to be giving him all of my interests in the Washington Post and Blue Origin, and 75% of our Amazon stock plus voting control of my shares to support his continued contributions with the teams of these incredible companies.”

MacKenzie Bezos retains 4% of Amazon, according to a filing Thursday. The Bezos’ announced their divorce in January, hours before the National Enquirer tabloid newspaper began tweeting that it planned to publish an expose that Jeff Bezos had been having a relationship with Lauren Sanchez, a former TV anchor. The announce-ment sparked speculation about how their exceptional wealth, estimated at more than $130 billion, would be divided. Jeff Bezos is the world’s richest person and will remain in that position after the divorce, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos met in New York at D.E. Shaw. Jeff was the first person to interview MacKenzie for a role at the hedge fund and the pair ended up having offices next to each other, according to a 2013 interview with Vogue. They married in 1993 and a year later drove across the country to Seattle, where Jeff founded Amazon. They have four children.

This Is How You Can Delete Data Collected By Google

For privacy activists, Google’s ability to track your movements live on its map and record this data was as bad as having an electronic leash around the neck. Finally, in response to fears of data misuse, the Alphabet-owned tech giant plans to launch an “auto-delete” option. This feature will enable users to routinely expunge their location history, web and app activity data collected by Google Maps and its search engine after every three or 18 months. There is no word on past data, but even so, this is a good beginning.

In a world where the web seems like a privacy nightmare, Google’s announcement marks a major shift in its rela-tionship with users. Many of its services are utilities that few can do without, and for once, people will be given a choice in their terms of engagement. Public pressure has come to bear only recently.

Now that the world is coming round to the view that people have a right to erase their data, we can hope that data gatherers and givers can strike a new bargain that suits both sides.

SIM swap fraud: A New Wave of Attacks Targeting Financial Services and online services in AfricaIn South Africa this type of fraud more than double in the last year, according a report of South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) During Kaspersky Lab’s annual Cyber Security Weekend that took place in Cape Town, South Afri-ca, Kaspersky Lab experts discussed the wide spread growth of mobile payments across the globe and the many cyber risks that surround such technology. Especially the recent SIM swap fraud wave, which have become very common in Africa and the wider region. In South Africa this type of fraud more than double in the last year, according a report of South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC).A SIM swap fraud happens when someone convinc-es your carrier to switch your phone number over to a SIM card that a criminal possesses. In some cases, there are carrier’s employees working together with criminals. By diverting your incoming SMS messages, scammers can easily complete the text-based two-fac-tor authentication checks that protect your most sen-sitive accounts in financial services, social networks, webmail services and instant messengers.

Many African countries are suited to mobile payment methods. In fact, research) notes that at the end of 2017, there were 135 live mobile money services across the Sub-Saharan African region, with 122 million active accounts. While payment methods through mobiles offer a convenience that is hard to debate, Kaspersky Lab research shows that mobile payments and the banking system are suffering a wave of attack – mostly powered by SIM swap fraud – and people are losing their money as a result. This type of attack is used to not only steal credentials and capture one-time passwords (OTPs) sent via an SMS, but also to cause financial damage to victims, resetting the accounts on financial services, allowing to the fraudsters access to currency accounts not only in banks but also in fin-techs and credit unions. Fraudsters are also using it as way to steal money using WhatsApp, loading the mes-sages in a new phone, contacting the victim’s contacts asking for money, simulating an emergency situation.

The total money lost in the attacks varies by country: there are extreme cases, such as one in the United Arab Emirates, where one victim lost $ 1 million while in South Africa one victim reported losing $ 20,000. “In average fraudsters can steal $2,500 to $3,000 per victim, while the cost to perform the SIM swap starts with $10 to $40,” conclude Assolini.

In order to protect the growing mobile digital life and payment methods, Kaspersky Lab recommends the following key considerations:

Voice and SMS methods avoided as authentication methods for payments – OTPs in mobile apps like Goo-gle Authenticator or the use of physical tokens should be used.Biometrics – there is no better authentication than that of a physical characteristic. Voice authentication is an option that can be investigated further. An automated ‘Your number will be deactivated’ mes-sage – to be shared upon SIM swap request. This will support the user to report the activity, if it is not legiti-mate, faster.Activate 2FA on WhatsApp – in an attempt to minimize WhatsApp hijacking, activating Two-factor authentica-tion using a six-digit PIN on your device is critical. This supports the user in having an additional layer of securi-ty on the device.Kaspersky Lab is a global cybersecurity company which has been operating in the market for 21 years. Kasper-sky Lab’s deep threat intelligence and security expertise is constantly transforming into next generation security solutions and services to protect businesses, critical infrastructure, governments and consumers around the globe. The company’s comprehensive security portfo-lio includes leading endpoint protection and a number of specialized security solutions and services to fight sophisticated and evolving digital threats. Using Advanced AI To Stay Ahead Of Cybercriminals By Doros Hadjizenonos, Regional Director – SADC at FortinetAs the threat landscape continues to evolve rap-idly, it now includes increasingly sophisticated, zero-day malware that traditional security approaches can no longer keep pace with. As a result, security researchers estimate that the cost of cybercrime will outpace secu-rity spend by over 16X, reaching $2.1 trillion by the end of 2019. Staying ahead of today’s accelerated cybercrime trends requires adding artificial intelligence (AI) to an organisation’s network security strategy.

The rise of artificial intelligenceThe goal of AI is to replicate the analytical processes of human intelligence but to enable decision mak-ing at machine speeds. The most effective AI uses a deep-learning model built around an artificial neural network (ANN). This network is comprised of hard-ware and software configured after the neuron patterns in the human brain. This design not only accelerates data analysis and decision making but also enables the network to adapt and evolve based on new information. To accomplish this, an ANN goes through a machine learning (ML) training process where implanted learn-ing models are carefully fed vast and increasingly com-plex amounts of information on an ongoing basis. Once the system has identified patterns and problem-solving strategies, it is then provided with new information that enables it to adjust its algorithms so that it can adapt to and identify new tactics and capabilities adopted by malware or an attack vector.

Fortinet and AIAs an early adopter of AI, Fortinet (www.Fortinet.com) began developing a self-evolving threat detection system over six years ago. This system leverages a custom-de-signed ANN comprised of billions of nodes, and we have been meticulously training it with new threat data every day since, giving us a significant competitive threat intelligence advantage over every other vendor in the security marketplace. Our FortiGuard Labs team now uses this advanced AI technology to analyse files and URLs and label them as clean or malicious—at ma-chine speeds and with a high degree of accuracy.

Training an AI

The most crucial element of any AI solution is the methodology used to train its analysis and deci-sion-making algorithms. The ML model used to train FortiGuard AI leverages the three essential learning model strategies endorsed by the AI community:Su-pervised learning. This initial model begins the train-ing of the AI by feeding it a vast amount of labelled data, clearly identifying the characteristics of each labelled data set, and then repeatedly applying those characteristics to unlabelled data.Unsupervised learning. In this next phase, the algo-rithm has no known solution set to follow. Instead, it recognises patterns learned in phase one that enable it to label data without human help. At this point, new data can be slowly introduced to force it to deal with data it hasn’t seen before and make new decisions.Reinforcement learning. The results of supervised and unsupervised learning are then “tested,” by scoring the system’s performance with unlabelled files and “rewarding” the system for good results. Training then continues to cycle between these three learning strate-gies on an ongoing basis.Because of the recursive requirements of machine learning, any AI system that does not use all three of these learning models is incomplete. Each learning model helps refine results and improve accuracy.

Delivering true AI to customersMany cybersecurity companies claim to have introduced AI capabilities into their solutions. But the reality is, most fall short of true AI because their underlying infrastructure is too small or their learning models are incomplete. Others refuse to divulge the methods that they use, which raises concerns about the reliability of their AI. Fortinet instead opts to be more transparent about its methodology so that customers know the breadth and depth of the analysis involved. This is why every time a threat is identified, For-tiGuard AI generates threat intelligence that automat-ically updates defensive signatures for every solution across the entire Fortinet Security Fabric, enabling security tools to work together to defend customers

Samsung Insists It Will Be The Number 1 Phone Manufacturer In The WorldSamsung may be facing severe competition from rival Huawei, but that is no stopping the South Korean giant from retaining its hold on the global market.

In a recent interview, Samsung CEO DJ Koh said that the company has led the smartphone market for the past 10 years and will continue to do so for the next 10 years, Digital Trends reports.

Koh also stressed that the company will continue to hold the top position by innovating and creating new mobile experiences.

His comments arrive after the president of Huawei Business Group, Richard Yu, laid out goals of making Huawei as the world’s number one smartphone manufacturer.

Samsung accounted for 18% global market share followed by Apple at 17% and Huawei at 15%, according to Counterpoint Research data at the end of 2018.

Samsung has been pushing devices in the mid-range smartphone segment lately, which is currently dominated primarily by Chinese players like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Realme.

This year alone, Samsung has launched seven new devices altogether in the mid-range and budget segments un-der the new Galaxy M-series and the recently revamped Galaxy A-series.Koh, at the Indian launch of Samsung Galaxy M last month, said he was confident of regaining top spot in volume terms in India. He noted that Samsung is heavily invested in the Indian market with its largest mobile manufacturing facility and experience centre located in the country.

The Korean chaebol launched new devices in its recently revamped Galaxy A-series on Wednesday at an event in Bangkok. The Galaxy A80 is a high-end smartphone offering that comes with a rotating camera and bezel-less display, while the Galaxy A70 is a mid-range smartphone with a massive battery and reasonably powerful specifi-cations.

Oil Prices Are Set To Go Up 50% Worldwide

Oil prices have soared above $64 a barrel due to the chaos in Venezuela,Iran and US sanctions and the surge of violence in Libya. This has amplifies the supply constraints imposed by the cartel’s kingpin creating a crisis in the oil sector.

Saudi Arabia has slashed production as well as exports to the United States in a bid to engineer higher prices and balance its budget.Brent crude, the global benchmark, is already above $71 a barrel for the first time since mid-November.

Clashes in Libya in recent days raise the risk that the war-torn country’s 1.3 million barrels of daily oil produc-tion will beat stake. Libya’s UN-backed government said it repelled an attack by rebels over the weekend after briefly losing control of Tripoli’s airport.Libya’s oil output was sidelined for years due to a bloody civil war. But production has been on the rise again in recent months. If Libya were to go out, oil prices could easily spike $5 to $10 from current levels,” said Ben Cook, portfolio manager at BP Capital Advisors.Meanwhile Venezuela has been hit by the Trump administration’s sanctions on state oil company PDVSA. The United States imported zero barrels of crude from Venezuela during the final three weeks of March, according to US government statistics. It’s a sharp decline from weekly imports of around 600,000 barrels per day before the sanctions were announced in late January. The United States has never gone a full month without importing oil from Venezuela since the government began tracking this metric in 1973.Venezuela’s oil output was further derailed by mass blackouts in the country, which has added to the nation’s humanitarian crisis.Meanwhile, oil investors are watching for the Trump administration to drop clues on whether it will extend waivers that have allowed countries to keep buying oil from Iran. The waivers were announced last summer and contributed to a supply glut that sent crude prices crashing into a bear market.

Huawei’s Profits Rise Inspite Of China’s Declining EconomyHuawei is now outselling the iPhone four times over in China inspite of intense backlash from first world coun-tries who have resulted in banning their equipment following accusations that are using their equipment to spy on thei intelligence.

According to a new report from market research firm Canalys,Huawei has dominated the Chinese smartphone market in the first three months of 2019 taking a record 34% share as rivals Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Apple (AAPL) all struggle. It was the only major smartphone maker that managed to grow in China’s declining market, and it did so by a huge amount. The Shenzhen-based company shipped nearly 30 million phones in the three months ended in March, up 41% compared to the same period a year earlier. Apple sales in the first quarter plunged by 30% to 6.5 million phones — its worst decline in two years, according to Canalys.Apple’s iPhone business is struggling worldwide. The California company reported Tuesday that global sales for the first quarter fell 17% from the previous year.In China, Huawei “is the strongest it’s ever been,” Canalys analyst Mo Jia said in the report. The company has opened more brick-and-mortar locations, pushed into rural areas and filled its stores with more smartdevices and accessories to attract shoppers. The investments have helped Huawei “gain customers from other vendors, such as Oppo and Vivo, which used to enjoy absolute dominance in offline channels,” said Jia.Unlike Apple, Huawei and other Chinese smartphone makers also have a wide range of low to high-end models, so they can appeal to more cost-conscious buyers.Huawei’s stellar first quarter growth came despite China’s smartphone market suffering its worst contraction in six years, with overall shipments declining 3% to 88 million phones.Globally, Huawei is in pole position to overtake Samsung as the world’s largest smartphone maker.

NASA Announces Designs For Homes On Mars

NASA has taken another step to make interplanetary living a reality, naming the top three finalists for its ongo-ing 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge on Thursday last week. The challenge, which began in 2015, has seen teams competing to design shelters suitable for the Moon, and Mars .For the fourth level of the third phase of the competition, 11 teams were asked to create full-scale render-ings of their designs using modeling software, and short videos explaining their choices. Each model was evalu-ated for architectural layout and aesthetics, as well as the feasibility of their construction and scalability, among other traits.Previous stages focused on architectural renderings and technologies required to build each design’s components.

The competition is just the latest development in NASA’s mission to send humans back to the moon and, eventu-ally, to Mars. Last November, the agency announced that nine US companies were eligible to bid on $2.6 billion in contracts over the next 10 years to deliver services to the moon, and in 2017, President Donald Trump signed Space Policy Directive 1 to “refocus America’s space program on human exploration and discovery.”“(Space Policy Directive 1) marks a first step in returning American astronauts to the Moon for the first time since 1972, for long-term exploration and use,” he said. “This time, we will not only plant our flag and leave our footprints — we will establish a foundation for an eventual mission to Mars, and perhaps someday, to many worlds beyond.”
