Ecosystem The ecosystem is thecombination of the

    biocenosis, the biotope

and the biotic andabiotic relationshipsestablished betweenthem.

Biocenosis It is a component of anecosystem.//All theliving beings whichinhabit a natural areaand the relationship

between them. Biotope It is a component of an

ecosystem.//It is thephysical environmentof the ecosystem andits characteristics.

Habitat It is thephysicalenvironment whereindividuals of a

    particular species liveand are adapted.

    Ecologicalniche.

It is the function whicha particular species hasin an ecosystem.

Trophic levels All the organisms thatobtain the matter andenergy they need in thesame way.

Producers. Autotrophic organismsthat make their ownorganic matter frominorganic matter.

Consumers. Heterotrophicorganisms that feed offorganic material whichhas already been

    produced. There arethree types.

    Primary

    consumers.

Consumers. They feedon producers. They are

    herbivores. Forexample: Rabbit.

    Secondaryconsumers.

Consumers. They arecarnivores and feed on

primary consumers. Some of them areomnivores and feed on

    producers as well. For

    example: fox. Tertiary

    consumers.

Consumers. They feedonprimary consumersand secondaryconsumers. Some ofthem are omnivoresand feed on producersas well. For example:snake.

Decomposers. Heterotrophicorganisms thattransform organicmatter back intoinorganic matter. Forexample: fungi.

Food chains orfoodwebs are used torepresent therelationships among

    organisms in anecosystem.

Intraespecific. Interactions amongindividuals of the samespecies.

    Interespecific. Relationships amongindividuals ofdifferentspecies.

Biosphere. It is the life zone of theEarth. It includes allliving things and allorganic matter.

Biomes They are the large-scale ecosystems of theworld.

Biotic factors. They are the effectsthat other organismshave on living being inits environment.

Biotope It is the inorganic partof the ecosystem, the

    physical environment.

Abiotic factors They are the physicaland chemical elementsin an ecosystem, whichaffect living organisms.
