Our eighth grade students achieved a 68.56% passing rate in reading and a 92.55% passing rate in math. When compared to local and state math averages, eighth grade AVID students far exceeded Local Education Agency (LEA) averages of 74.90% and 85.90% for the State. The required End of Course (EOC) testing for our high school students proved successful as well. ECPPS high school AVID students averaged a proficient pass rate of 86.14% on the required Algebra I test, versus 73.7% for the LEA and 78.7% for the State. The English I EOC resulted in 97.5% of AVID students achieving success versus 80.5% for the LEA and 82.9% for the State. The foundation continues to fund the professional development of teachers through AVID, positively impacting students both within the AVID program and beyond. Additional funds support required tutors who are primarily recruited from Elizabeth City State University, as well as academic field trips, such as the one pictured to the right, taken by Elizabeth City Middle School AVID students. These funded programs, together with team building activities, ensure the continued success of AVID in our schools. Help us keep this valuable program alive in our area schools! ix years ago, the word “AVID” was foreign and relatively unknown. However, fast - forward to today, and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an established, successful program in the Elizabeth City -Pasquotank Public Schools (ECPPS) and is common vocabulary among our area’s educators.

The program, designed to increase school performance and prepare students for college, continues to see great success in the ECPPS system. AVID students continue to exceed required state mandated testing in several core subjects. For the End of Grade (EOG) reading test, 56.67 % of seventh grade AVID students successfully passed the state mandated reading test, and 77.5% passed the required math test.

The foundation continues to fund the professional development of teachers through AVID, positively impactingstudents both within the AVID program and beyond. Additional funds support required tutors who are primarily recruited from Elizabeth City State University, as well as academic field trips, such as the one pictured to the right, taken by Elizabeth City Middle School AVID students.
