Sustainable Energy Supply in Ecological AreasSustainable Energy Supply in Ecological Areas

A regional law has defined the concept of Ecological Productive Areas(APEA), which could be extended to about 3600 hectares of new areas.

The supply of energy to APEAs, by district heating, fed by CHP and/orbiomass, appears a promising application (tri-generation).

Pilot case studies have been developed. The policy framework is favourable:electric and gas markets are liberalised, green and white certificates doapply, the feed-in tariffs are reasonable, the enterprises are welcoming moresecure and cheap forms of energy purchase. The remaining obstacle is thelimitation to internal grids, under evaluation by the Energy Authority(AEEG).

In the “Ponte Rizzoli” case study, the Municipality of Ozzano Emilia willapply (as the beneficiary) for Structural Funds or other regionalcontribution (35%), and will successively assign in a competitive way theconcession of the final design, construction, operation and energydistribution service to an energy service company.
