Objectives:

Identify the different types of graphic organizers.

Know and understand the advantage of using this.

Develop the ability to present lessons using graphic

organizers.

Cycle

•An illustration that demonstrates how a series of events interacts .

Page 4: Ed 103 format2

Used for organizing information that is circular or cyclical, with no absolute beginning or ending.

Uses:Used to show how a series of events interact to produce a set of results again and again (weather phenomena, cycles of achievement and failure, the life cycle).

Used for helping students understand how an events or issues can be circular or cyclic.

Venn diagram

• Is a series of circles (most often three) that overlap to show the possibilities of various data sets. It is also a pictorial representation of relationships. Shared characteristics are listed in the overlapping section allowing for easy identification of which characteristics are shared and which are not. It was developed by a mathematician named John Venn in 1880.

Page 7: Ed 103 format2

Used to illustrate the relationship between events and the corresponding sample space.

Uses:

Used to show all possible logical relations between a finite collection of sets.

Used as a graphic organization tool when comparing and contrasting two things.

Summary:

Graphic organizers are one way for visual thinkers to arrange their ideas. Can be used in all phases of learning from brainstorming ideas to presenting findings. They can be used individually or in large groups. Some of this are the cycle which is used to show how events interact and the Venn diagram which is used to illustrate relationships.
