Ed Kluz is an artist, illustrator and printmaker for whom Romanticism, the Picturesque and antiquarian depictions of architecture have all had a hand in shaping his approach to image making. With a keen interest in the eccentric, uncanny and overlooked, it is the follies, lost country houses and ruins that have provided a constant source of inspiration for Kluz. For his first show with John Martin Gallery, he brings together a collection of large scale collages depicting both standing and lost iconic British buildings, from Joseph Paxton’s 1851 Crystal Palace to the great Medieval Cathedral in Lichfield, each one studied in careful isolation, Kluz constructs a compelling and powerful evocation of the subject.
Commissions include the Victoria and Albert Museum, Faber, Folio Society, John Murray Publishers, Little Toller Books and St Jude’s fabrics. Ed Kluz was born in 1980 and grew up in Swaledale, North Yorkshire. He studied fine art at the Winchester School of Art between 1999 - 2002. He now lives in East Sussex.
