Parent and Community Involvement Plan
Metro HS in Metro ISD
“Innovate, Educate, Graduate”
Vision Statement
“Through innovation and continuous improvement,
Metro HS creates life-long learners who will contribute to local and global communities through
vocational, educational, and socio-political pursuits.”
Mission Statement
Metro HS in Metro ISD collaborates with the community to enable our learners
to succeed academically and socially in order to serve and lead the local and global citizens;
through the innovative use of cooperation with local businesses, multi-cultural learning
experiences and the talents of our committed staff, we will prepare our learners
to contribute to the local and global community.
School Goals
- We will implement and deliver a data driven curriculum utilizing innovations in
technology and assessment; instructional strategies will engage learners and create multi-
cultural, relevant, learning experiences.
- We will communicate the campus assessment plan to parents/guardians, teachers, and the
community; we will communicate results individually to parents/guardians.
- We will align the curriculum in accordance with state and national expectations; this
alignment will reveal consistency in creation, implementation, and assessment.
- We will incorporate contemporary, relevant, and multi-cultural experiences in classroom
instruction and create opportunities for students to develop leadership skills.
WEEK 7 ASSIGNMENT: SECTION 081 3
- We will use current and consistent data and assessment systems to facilitate timely and
effective support of the curriculum and classroom instruction.
Communication Plan
- The communication plan at Metro HS will inform all stakeholders and encourage them to
actively participate in the social and academic progress of the students.
- Stakeholders include staff members, students, parents, district administrators, school
board members, community members, groups, and the Superintendent.
- In July, campus administrators and the Bilingual/ELL Department will communicate with
teachers and staff via a webinar on Eduphoria regarding attendance for SIOP Institute.
- The school will provide a discussion board using Edmodo for staff memos and other
collaborative efforts; also, teachers and staff will attend weekly staff meetings/webinars
and monthly PTA and School Board meetings in order to promote student achievements
and involvement opportunities.
- Every month, the Principal will meet with the Chief of Schools to communicate campus
successes and update goals and areas for growth.
- Every month, the Principal will meet with Department Heads to update the school’s
Facebook, Twitter, and campus website. The website will contain an embedded blog
titled “This Is the Way We Metro” to communicate with various stakeholders,
community partners and members. Additionally, the school will write letters to parents
for communication that is of a personal and/or confidential nature.
- Each year, teachers and administrators will collaborate and create cadres which will
address elements of the Campus Improvement Plan; each cadre will be in charge of a
specific portion of the plan. The cadres will use Edmodo to ascertain data regarding
WEEK 7 ASSIGNMENT: SECTION 081 4
areas of need; once the cadres have the information, their elected leader will present the
results to the administrators. Administrators will use submitted results to decide which
areas need immediate attention and could involve other community members.
- Every year, the school will host “The Metro Intro,” Academic Night, “The Multi-Cultural
Mix,” Teacher Appreciation Week, Support Staff Appreciation Week, Canned Food
Drive, Clothing Drive, and “The Metro Spotlight (graduation announcements).”
- Teachers, support staff, and campus administrators will develop the Communication Plan
and determine the various roles needed to properly implement the plan.
- The Principal will report to the Chief of Schools and the Superintendent; the
Superintendent serves as the ultimate authority regarding district communications.
- All communications will be available in English and Spanish.

WEEK 7 ASSIGNMENT: SECTION 081 26
Metro High School: A Part of the Whole
Recognizing that we are but one part of the larger economic, cultural, political, social,
and legal context of the community, we also recognize that all stakeholders have a responsibility
to support and champion the mission of Metro High School and all of its students, no matter their
socioeconomic background, ethnicity, gender, disability, or individual characteristics. Each
student is a unique and integral member of the Metro community and will be educated as such.
An educated citizenry is a productive citizenry.
Students who receive the best educational opportunities become active and productive
members of the community, therefore, contributing to the economy and tax base that perpetuates
the continuation of quality educational experiences for future generations. The educating of
children isn't solely the responsibility of parents. The providing of quality public education is
the responsibility of all stakeholders; and as stated above, educated citizens are productive and
contributing citizens. That is why it is imperative to acknowledge the fact that all students for all
backgrounds are guaranteed a free and appropriate public education.
Socioeconomic differences, religious differences, cultural differences, racial differences,
ability differences, and political differences combine to create a community and school culture
that offers multiple perspectives and wisdoms. An accepting school and community culture
provides opportunities for growth and understanding that would not be present in a
heterogeneous society. Stakeholders can create a culture of acceptance and understanding by
sponsoring and participating in culturally enriching activities that go beyond food and festivals,
which are wonderful starting places, however. As students and community members learn more
about one another's differences, a realization surfaces that in reference to what is best for our
children, we are all the same.
WEEK 7 ASSIGNMENT: SECTION 081 27
To champion the Metro mission of effectively educating all students, parents and
community members can exercise their voice by being actively involved in elections at the
community, district, state, and federal levels. Active involvement in the political process
facilitates the election of individuals who value education, not only for their own children, but
for all children, ensuring that all students receive the free and appropriate public education
guaranteed under the Constitution of the United States of America and the Texas Education
Code. Additionally, stakeholders can write and visit policymakers to share their ideas and
concerns. Sometimes one thinks that his or her voice will not be heard, but when community
members combine their voices, policy makers are more likely to listen.
Thankfully, even when big government does not listen, social organizations do, and work
together to support families who need assistance in educating, feeding, clothing, and enriching
the lives of their children. Various organizations, as listed above, provide educational services,
health and wellness services, social services, sports, fine arts, as well as many other enrichment
opportunities to develop the whole child. The official Grand Prairie website provides links to
multiple agencies that work with schools and other social services to support families and
children. Organizations like the YMCA, Arts Council, Parks, Arts & Recreation, and libraries
provide services that promote health, wellness, creativity, and literacy. A healthy, strong,
creative, and literate child is a child who is better equipped to succeed in school and welcome the
challenges that a rigorous education provides, challenges that facilitate growth.
Lastly, stakeholders have a legal obligation to ensure equitable access to the school
curriculum for all students. If programs and/or policies are discriminatory, stakeholders have the
responsibility to change those policies. If funding is inequitable, stakeholders have the
obligation to fight for an equitable funding formula that does not discriminate against students
WEEK 7 ASSIGNMENT: SECTION 081 28
who happen to live in the "wrong" area. And, all stakeholder have the legal responsibility to
contribute financially to public education via taxes, because without taxes, most children would
not have the educational opportunities guaranteed them under the Texas Education Code.
Stakeholders contribute to a school's culture economically, culturally, politically,
socially, and legally because a school cannot effectively function without the corporation and/or
support of its students, teachers, staff, administrators, and community members. With a clear
vision and a well-thought-out mission, we can and will provide superior educational
opportunities for all students at Metro High School so they can learn, grow, and become
facilitators of positive change and contributing members of the local and global communities.
