Where are we going?

Page 8: Eddie Stuart Vice Chancellor Division for University Advancement

Two main efforts in our recent past:

• Comprehensive fundraising readiness assessment

• Campaign strategy study process

Planning for the Future

Page 9: Eddie Stuart Vice Chancellor Division for University Advancement

• Over 44 recommendations made to become more

effective and productive

• All recommendations have been adopted and

implemented

Results of the Readiness Assessment(Fall of 2012)

Page 10: Eddie Stuart Vice Chancellor Division for University Advancement

• Leadership is very well regarded in the community and among top donors

• The Soaring to Greatness Campaign is still top-of-mind for many prospects

• UNCW has far fewer lead gift prospects needed to support a traditional

campaign

• A more clearly defined vision for athletics facilities needs to be developed

• Philanthropic priorities that resonated with the widest variety of donors: merit

and diversity scholarships, applied learning, and athletics

Findings of the Campaign Strategy Study Process (Summer of 2013)

So, why are we raising money?

My favorite aspect about UNCW is the many hands-on experiences that are offered. I have found it really easy to talk to professors and get involved and that is wonderful. – Maddy ’18 I love the one-on-one relationships I get to build with my professors and the overall atmosphere on campus. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help! – Breanne ’18 UNCW provides a great welcoming atmosphere with dedicated professors to help toward my academic goals. Also, the close proximity to the beach doesn't hurt! – Conner ’17 Having a scholarship to support my education has given me the time to get involved in various clubs and activities that do not pertain to my major, but have nonetheless taught me important skills like conference etiquette, leadership and time management. - Tiffany ’18 This scholarship has meant so much to me. Usually, I have to work 24 hours a week to make ends meet and pay for school and books, but receiving this scholarship has allowed me to cut back on work and focus on my schoolwork. – Jennifer ’16 You just do not realize how much donations help. For me, it was wonderful to know someone believed in me and, because of that, it makes me want to work even harder to achieve the highest GPA possible. Not only am I working hard for my own satisfaction, but now I feel that I am working hard for complete strangers because again, they believed in me and support my scholarship. – Tammy ’16

Why are we raising money?

Invite the best students possible

Equip and challenge them to change the world

Illustrate our success – tell the story of how philanthropy fuels students and faculty

Philanthropic Priorities

Following the student journey from recruitment, to

commencement, and beyond.

• Merit and Diversity Scholarships

• Support for Applied Learning (undergraduate research, study abroad,

internships, service learning, scholarship support)

• Campus Transformation (athletics, recreation, and academic facilities

in the south part of campus)

• Unrestricted Support (support for faculty scholarship and mentorship,

special opportunities)

Myths about Advancement

1. Small gifts don’t make a difference.

2. We raise money and then decide who gets what.
