utilising digital technologies
Nick Bunyan: Educational Developer & Learning TechnologistELearning Unit, Centre for Lifelong Learning
Workshop outline1. Introduce key themes & ideas. 2. How the module will work.3. How you will be assessed.4. Explore areas of interest.
Practical 1. Discussion board - communication2. Wiki - assessment
Three broad themes:design thinking & learning design, engaging students
Activity #1
On your tables, briefly discuss the Prof. Eric Mazur video
What did you think of the broad change process he outlined?
•Realised student learning was not what he wanted, •reflected & explained (theorised) what the problem was, •used research evidence, •empathised & understood the nature of his students learning experiences, •created, tested, evaluated and evolved a new approach.
Design thinking example Prof Eric Mazur
Design thinking process 1. DiscoveryHow do I approach the problem?
2. InterpretationHow do I interpret it?
3. IdeationWhat do I create?
4. ExperimentationHow do I build it?
5. EvolutionHow do I evolve it?
• Empathetic • Collaborative• Optimistic• Experimental
•Re-design focused on active student learning – design of learning activities, formative assessment, peer learning,•Clear student & staff roles,•Alignment of technology to support learning and teaching.

Activity #2Individually write down a brief list of challenges, problem areas, issues you want to work on during the module. These could be influenced from EDEV401 or EDEV402 etc.
Then share and discuss these with a neighbour.
