What do I have to do?
Practical tasks are as follows:
• 2 written compositions (2 – 4 mins combined) 30%
• 2 Performances – one solo (any instrument / voice) one ensemble (group) 30%
• One hour listening exam and 30mins extended writing question at the end of the course 40%
What will I learn?We will look at pieces of music covering four areas of study
• Area of Study 1 – Western Classical Music 1600-1899• Area of Study 2 – Music in the 20th Century• Area of Study 3 – Popular Music in Context• Area of Study 4 – World Music
We learn to use new music software: Sibelius We will learn new musical structures We will listen and learn about many types of music and how
it has impacted on the music you listen to today
What do I already know?• Chords• Notes of the stave• Bass Clef and Treble Clef• Major / Minor sounds• Elements of music• Where to find the notes on the keyboard• Some Classical composers and their music• Computer software: Cubasis• We have listened to many types of music at Key Stage 3: World
