ELIGIBILITY
Small businesses founded before the end of 2014, or a public research laboratory
Based in Europe
Backed by an expert or an innovation organization
Able to demonstrate an innovation that uses electricity and fits within one of the
three award categories
For the “Smart living & electricity” and “Health & electricity” categories:
• a mock-up, if not a prototype, has already been produced,
• and the project is near the market launch phase.
For the “Science & electricity” category: educational material is available.

*Entries will no longer be counted once the 100th project has been submitted, or after 30/11/2014.

APPLICATION PROCESS
First come, first served ! Only 100 projects will be shorlisted
To be amongst the first projects submitted, visit our pre-application
website : http://edfpulse.fabernovel.com/
It’s quick and easy: just submit a presentation of your project and answer a few
simple questions to check if your project is eligible.
The date your pre-application is received will be taken into account when
determining your position on the list.
If your pre-application is accepted, you will then need to fill in a form on the
main application website.
The main application website will be open to all from the end of
September, at www.pulse.edf.com, under the “EDF Pulse awards”
section.

SELECTION PROCESS
Projects will go through a multi-stage selection process:
• Once an application is received: examined by a selection committee, who will decide whether to
include it in the final shortlist of 100 projects.
• During the pre-selection stage: additional analysis of the shortlist. 30 candidates interviewed and
12 nominees selected.
• On the jury day: presentations by the 12 nominees, and six finalists chosen (two per category).
• During the voting stage: the general public will choose the three award winners.

• Expected impact of the EDF Pulse Awards on the project
• Interest among visitors to website*
*The 30 preselected projects will be featured in articles on www.pulse.edf.com,
and comments by website visitors will be taken into account.

began working on the ECHY project,
and founded their start-up in October

STIGO
A trained engineer, Estonian Rando Pikner
is a serial entrepreneur. He had previously
founded four start-ups, in science and
energy, before creating Stigo with Rainer
Nolvak and Ardo Reinsalu.

The EDF Pulse “Science and electricity” award was
given to a research project on solid electrolytes called
SIEL (Single ion electrolyte), which enables
production of batteries that are:
•- less heavy
•- less expensive
•- more efficient
•- less susceptible to battery fires
At the ceremony, the award winner expressed his
gratitude for the publicity generated by the EDF
Pulse award, as well as EDF’s expertise and
financial assistance, which enabled him to fast-
track his current research.
