His life• Both his parents died before he reached the age of three

• He had schooling– Went to the University of Virginia, but ran up some large gambling

debts that his foster father refused to pay (his foster father also kept him from returning to the University and broke up his engagement to Sarah Elmira Royster)… his solution was to join the army

• Married– He ended up marrying his cousin Virginia, who was not yet fourteen

years of age at the time

• Poe tried to work for many different magazines– but he rarely lasted long. This is probably due to the fact that although

he wrote wonderful reviews and stories, he did not get along well with his bosses, who either disagreed with his reviews, his drinking problem, or perhaps both.

Who he wasFrom the information gathered, it could be said that Edgar Allen Poe was a deeply troubled man. His written works, and many of his habits, indicated that he was depressed. His works were normally macabre and gothic, all the dark and dank details written with the greatest detail. Also, he was a strong drinker. He seemed to be doomed to lose the ones that he love. His parents both died, his foster father would not support him, forcing him to abandon the woman he was engaged to in the process. He eventually married his cousin Virginia and enjoyed some happy times, but those ended with even greater grief as she died while they were both still young. Poe would probably draw little enjoyment from movies, but if he were to publish any reviews of them in the paper, then it might become clear that he gave mysteries and psychological thrillers better ratings in general.
