2Pre-installation checks

Server-side System Requirements

The EDGE server software is supported on the following platforms:

• IBM pSeries servers running AIX v5.2, v5.3, v6.x or 7.x

• Sun Solaris 10 (SPARC-based processors only)

• HP-UX 11i v3 (Itanium-based processors only)

Note: The above information is a guide only. For up-to-date systemrequirements, please check the release notes that came withyour EDGE installation media. If you do not have a release notesdocument for your specific version of EDGE, please contact Pit-ney Bowes Technical Support.

Client-side system requirements

EDGE client-side components require Windows 2000, XP or greater.Any modern equipped P.C. should be sufficient to run the entiresuite of client-side components, but more specific details can befound under the respective chapters in this document.


Pre-installation checks Additional Software Requirements

Additional Software Requirements

C Compiler In addition to the base operating system, each host running EDGEmust have a C compiler installed. EDGE has been built and testedwith the following compilers:

• IBM XLC compiler

• Sun Studio 11

• HP C compiler

Note: EDGE has not been tested to run with the GNU GCC compiler. It isrecommend you use one of the compilers described above.

Optional Modules Some optional integration modules have additional softwarerequirements. You should check with each vendor to determine theexact system requirements for the additional software.

Oracle

When using the EDGE/Oracle database link, Oracle Net Services mustbe installed on the system running the EDGE server software.


Pre-installation checks Additional Software Requirements

IBM WebSphere

When using the EDGE/MQ integration module, IBM WebSphere mustbe installed on the system running the EDGE server software.

Avaya ASAI Interface

When using the EDGE ASAI Interface, you must obtain the CV/LANclient software from Avaya. A service agreement may be required toobtain this software. More details may be found at the Avaya web-site (http://www.avaya.com).


Pre-installation checks Information to have available

Information to have availableYour 4-digit customer account ID. If you received the EDGE installa-tion media on CD, this is printed on the CD. Otherwise, it can beobtained logging in to the EDGE support web-site (http://www.pbin-sight.com/support/online-support-services), or by contacting PitneyBowes Technical Support.

An EDGE serial number. If you received the EDGE installation mediaon CD, this is printed on the CD. Otherwise it should be made avail-able to you when you download the EDGE software. If you do nothave a serial number, please contact Pitney Bowes Technical Sup-port.


3Installing EDGE

Kernel Parameters

Before starting the EDGE installation process, it is important to checkthat your kernel parameters are set to appropriate values for EDGE,based on the number of users that will be using your system. In mostsituations this means you will need to increase the default values:

• For AIX, see Appendix A, Kernel Parameters for AIX

• For Solaris, see Appendix B, Kernel Parameters for Solaris

• For HP-UX, see Appendix C, Kernel Parameters for HP-UX

Check Date Log in to your server as root.

Verify that your operating system date is correct by entering thefolowing at the UNIX prompt:

$ date


Installing EDGE

AIX only

Log in to your server as root and enter the following to enable asyn-chronous IO:

# smit chgaio

• Set the line item “State to be configured at system restart” toavailable.

• Reboot your machine and log back in as root to continue theupgrade procedure.

Obtain the Install Media

Change to a temporary directory. For example:

$ cd /tmp

If you obtained EDGE via a CD, place the CD in the drive and mount itby entering the the following:$ mount /cdrom

Note: You may need to enter a different command if your CD-Romdrive is accesible from a non-standard device path, or you needspecial options to mount the CD. Consult your operating systemmanual to determine the exact command needed.


Installing EDGE

If, instead, you obtained EDGE via download, copy the install file tothe /tmp directory and enter the following to unpack the installationfiles:

$ gzip -cd edge-x.y.z-plat.tar.gz | tar xvf -

Where x.y.z is the EDGE version number, and plat is an abbreviationrepresenting the plaform you are running on (e.g. aix, hpux, or sol).This will extract the install files to a directory called edge-x.y.x-plat,which should be used below when entering the install path.

Note: Some older UNIX systems do not have the gzip compression pro-gram installed by default. You can either obtain this programand install it on the target machine, or un-gzip the installationpackage on a machine that does have gzip installed. Visit http://www.gzip.org for details on how to obtain this program.

At the UNIX prompt, enter the following to uncompress the first file:

If you are using the UNIX CD-ROM drive:cpio -iudmvcB < [path_to_install_files]/file1

where [path_to_install_files] is either the location of themounted CD (e.g. /cdrom), or the path where you downloaded theEDGE installation files to (e.g. /tmp/edge-7.6.1-aix).

Multiple installs on the same Machine

If you are licensed to run multiple versions of EDGE, contact EDGECustomer Care to change your account suffix name.

Verify you are running the korn shell as your command shell in UNIX.To change to the korn shell, enter the following at the UNIX prompt:

$ ksh

Run the Install At the UNIX prompt, enter the following to run the install script:

$ ./install

Note: If at any stage during the installation the procedure is aborted,restart by entering "./reinstall" at the shell prompt.

The following prompt is displayed:TERM = (vt100)

To accept the default, press ENTER; otherwise, enter the terminaltype.

Select the number corresponding to the partition on which to installEDGE.

A prompt similar to the following is displayed:The partition ‘/xxx’ is selected to install EDGE.Do you wish to select a separate partition than ‘/xxx’ for EDGESYS? (y,n)

Unless disk space is potentially a problem, answer n. If you answer y,select the EDGESYS partition as you did in earlier in the procedure.

Note: The EDGE account contains all your global files. Over time, thisaccount can require a large amount of disk space, depending onyour applications. EDGESYS contains the EDGE system files andusually does not grow as much as EDGE.

Enter your most commonly used terminal type (e.g. vt100, ibm3151,etc.). This terminal type will be used as the default.

The following prompt is displayed:Please enter PRINTER ID for default setting: (? for help)

Enter the EDGE name for the printer ID to be used as the default set-ting in EDGE (e.g. lp0, line, laser). This printer will also need to bedefined in EDGE Developer using the same EDGE name. For moreinformation, see the EDGE Developer Reference Manual.

The following prompt is displayed:Do you wish to be prompted for terminal type at EDGE login? (y/n):

To be prompted for terminal type when logging into EDGE, enter y.For no login prompting, enter n.

Enter Customer ID/Serial Number

The following prompt is displayed:Please enter your four digit customer ID:

Enter your customer account ID (see Information to have availableon where to find this ).

The following prompt is displayed:Please enter the serial number:

Enter your serial number (see Information to have available on whereto find this). The serial number will enable your system with eightlicenses to allow you to proceed with this upgrade. You have threeattempts to enter the serial number. The system will install EDGEwith only one port if the serial number is not entered correctly.Please contact EDGE Customer Care at the end of the installationprocess to update your system with the correct number of ports.theinstallation process to update your system with the correct numberof ports.

Unmount CD If you have a CD in your CD-ROM drive, unmount it by entering thefollowing:$ cd /$ umount /cdrom

When completed, remove the CD from the CD-ROM drive.

The following IDs are supplied with your new EDGE:

Server IDs: edge, etw, edgeo


Installing EDGE

User IDs: GST1 through GST9

These IDs are not password protected.

Install EDGE Developer

The following sections assume you have EDGE Developer installedon your local Windows Desktop. Now is a good time to install thissoftware (see Chapter 11, Installing EDGE Developer).

Enable Modules If you are installing an optional module, you must enable the mod-ule. To run successfully, the module_enable procedure requires aminimum of 20MB of disk space in the temp directory utilized by theUNIX environment variable TMPDIR.

To enable the optional module, log in to EDGE Developer using oneof the supplied user IDs. Then go to ACL from the Browser and enterthe following:[INS,105]--> module_enable x

where x is the required entry for the optional module. For more infor-mation, see the applicable optional module EDGE documentation.

At this point, you are prompted for an authorization password. Toget the authorization password, contact EDGE Customer Care. Theauthorization password is only valid for a limited time and should beused immediately.


Installing EDGE

The home directory of EDGE on your server contains a file called sys-config.txt. Open this file with any text editor, print the file, and send itto EDGE Customer Care. The contents of this file are required beforea reconfiguration code will be issued.

If you performed a module enable, activate the new features byrestarting EDGE Developer.

If any error messages appeared on your screen during the installa-tion or if you have any questions about the installation, please con-tact EDGE Customer Care.

The installation is now complete.


4Upgrading EDGE

Stop the Task Scheduler

If you are using the Task Scheduler, shut it down using the Viewmenu in EDGE Developer.

Log off EDGE Users

Ensure that all EDGE users are logged off the system by entering thecommands listed below at the UNIX prompt. If all users have loggedoff, you should not see any of the processes named in the commandbelow.$ ps -ef | grep -e XGUIDE -e UPDDVR -e WORKTALK -e mserver -e odbcserv -e ctreeserver | grep -v grep

Note: If other users are doing a grep on any of the processes listed(while you are executing this command), they will not be dis-played.

Stop Telephony Stop any telephony servers that may be running by entering thecommand listed below at the UNIX prompt. Also, stop any IPC serv-ers that are running (for example, mserver is an IPC server).


Upgrading EDGE

$ tpserver -k

If you have any special terminal types or scripting under the EDGE orEDGE/EDGESYS directories, save these to another file system or totape. During the upgrade process, the EDGESYS directory underEDGE is completely removed and reinstalled from the compact disc.

The current version of .profile is saved as .profile.old in the samedirectory. After the upgrade, you can copy the changes to the new.profile. However it is strongly suggested not to customize the .pro-file and instead to create a .user.profile.

Perform a complete backup. Mark it “Last EDGE version.number Sys-tem Save” and keep it in a safe place. Do not overwrite this tape!

AIX only Log in to your server as root and enter the following to enable asyn-chronous IO:smit chgaio

• Set the line item “State to be configured at system restart” toavailable.

• Reboot your machine and log back in as root to continue theupgrade procedure.

• If you have configured the EDGE task scheduler to start atboot-time, Stop the Task Scheduler again.


Upgrading EDGE

Obtain the Install Media

Change to a temporary directory. For example:$ cd /tmp

Upgrading EDGE

If errors are encountered during the upgrade, error messages arecopied to the file upgrade.err in the local edge upgrade directory. Tocheck this file, enter the following at the UNIX prompt:$ cat upgrade.err

Upgrading EDGE

If the upgrade.err file contains any messages other than block size orlinking information, please contact EDGE Customer Care before pro-ceeding with the upgrade.

Unmount CD If you have a CD in your CD-ROM drive, unmount it by entering thefollowing:$ cd /$ umount /cdrom

When completed, remove the CD from the CD-ROM drive.

EDGE Developer Install and log in using EDGE Developer (see Chapter 11, InstallingEDGE Developer).

Update Project Version Number

Assign a code based on the version number of the system you areupgrading from to all your projects by entering the following at ACLfrom the EDGE system level:[INS,102]--> updvers -r version.code -a

The version.code for each version of EDGE is listed in Appendix D,Version Codes for EDGE.

If you need to update the site configuration information, from theBrowser, do the following:

• From the View menu select Server.

• Select the Site Setup command.


Upgrading EDGE

• Make your changes.

• Click the Save tool or click the Close box.

Upgrade Logics Logic flows and tasks that contain verbs which have been modifiedfor this release must be converted. To do this, go to ACL from theEDGE level and in each project and enter the following:[INS,103]--> UPGLF

Perform a full assembly of the guides, then swap the guides and per-form another full assembly.

Assemble all tasks at both the EDGE level and project level.

If you are using the Task Scheduler, you must restart it. From theBrowser, do the following:

• From the View menu, select Tasks.

• Select the Task Scheduler tab.

• Click Start Task Scheduler.

Enable Modules If you are installing a new optional module, you must enable themodule. To run successfully, the module_enable procedure requiresa minimum of 20MB of disk space in the temp directory utilized bythe UNIX environment variable TMPDIR.


Upgrading EDGE

Note: Existing optional modules do not need to be re-enabled.

To enable the optional module, go to ACL from the Browser andenter the following:[INS,105]--> module_enable [x]

where [x] is the required name entry for the optional module. Formore information, see the applicable optional module EDGE docu-mentation.

At this point, you are prompted for an authorization password. Toget the authorization password, contact EDGE Customer Care. Theauthorization password is only valid for a few minutes and should beused immediately.

The EDGE home directory on your server contains a file called sys-config.txt. Please email it to EDGE Customer Care at [email protected] with a subject line “upgrade sysconfigfile” and your four-digit customer ID. The contents of this file arerequired before the upgrade can be completed.

If you saved any special terminal types or scripting in step 4, restorethem to the EDGE directory.


Upgrading EDGE

If you had custom/user changes for the .profile, copy the changesfrom the edge/EDGE/.profile.old to edge/EDGE/.profile. (We stronglysuggest that you put them in a .user.profile.)

If you performed a module enable, activate the new features byrestarting EDGE Developer.

To finish your upgrade and to restore all your EDGE licenses, youshould have already emailed the sysconfig.txt file to EDGE CustomerCare. You should now call EDGE Customer Care to verify your newenvironment and activate your licenses.

The upgrade is now complete.


5Upgrade a Single Project

Follow this procedure if you wish to upgrade a project only that wasnot on your system before you upgraded EDGE (for example, if youhave unarchived a project from a previous version). You do not needthe installation media perform a project upgrade.

Log into EDGE Developer.

Go to the ACL prompt at the EDGE level. At the acl prompt, enter thefollowing to run the upgrade script:run UPGRADE


To accept the default, press ENTER; otherwise, enter the terminaltype. Respond to the following prompts as indicated, unless directedotherwise by EDGE Customer Care. Your responses must be inUPPERCASE.EDGE UPGRADE PROCESS - 7.4


Upgrade a Single Project

To send the report to the terminal, enter N at the Send report toprinter prompt. The projectname is the name of the project beingupgraded.

The cursor stays at this display until the upgrades are complete andthe printout begins to print. Assign a code based on the version number of the system you areupgrading from to each of your projects by entering the following atACL from the EDGE level:[INS, 102]--> updvers -r version.code -p project



where [version.code] is the code for each version of EDGE (seeAppendix A) and [project] is the name of the project beingupgraded.

Logic flows and tasks that contain verbs which have been modifiedfor this release must be converted. To convert your logic flows andtasks, go to ACL from the EDGE level and in each project and enterthe following:[INS,103]--> UPGLF

Note: You must do this for each project.

Perform a full assembly of the guides, then swap the guides and per-form another full assembly.

Assemble all tasks at both the EDGE level and project level.

If you are using the Task Scheduler, you must restart it. In EDGEDeveloper, from the Browser, do the following:



• Click Start Task Scheduler.

If a message similar to the following is displayed:Scheduler is running! Started at 17:33:34 11 JUNE 1999 by XX



then shut down the scheduler, then restart it by doing the following:



• Click Stop Task Scheduler, then click Start Task Scheduler.

The project upgrade is now complete.



6Reconfiguration

Ten (10) days after an install or upgrade has been completed, EDGEwill request a reconfiguration authorization code. This code is alsorequested after an installation or anytime site configuration informa-tion changes (for example, changing your address through theServer Setup). The request for the reconfiguration authorizationcode is displayed whenever anyone logs into EDGE. The appropriateauthorization code is obtained from EDGE Customer Care and isentered during the logon process to EDGE Developer.

If you do not provide EDGE with a reconfiguration code within tendays of the request, at the end of ten days, no one will be allowed tolog into EDGE, either in development or operations. To be able toresume using EDGE, you must contact EDGE Customer Care.

7Installing EDGE Locator

This document describes how to install EDGE Locator.

System requirements:

• EDGE installed on the server.

• At least 25 MB of available space in the $EDGE directory andan equal amount of available space in a temporary directory.

Overwriting the files deletes all data in the current ACTZ, ZATT, andZLPC files and replaces it with data from the CD. This means that dataadded to the ZATT and ZLPC files through Locator reference process-ing is deleted. Also, all updates made to the ACTZ file through theEDGE development area are deleted.

If you are installing the module for the first time or do not want tosave data you have added to these files, enter O. (Overwriting thefiles takes a few minutes.)

Updating the files retains data added to the ZATT and ZLPC filesthrough Locator reference processing. Updating also retains dataadded to the ACTZ file through the EDGE development area.

Updating the files may take several hours, depending on the type ofplatform, amount of memory, and other factors.

To cancel the installation, press CTRL-C.

After you enter either O or U, a message displays the type of installa-tion you selected. You are also asked to continue or cancel the instal-



lation. If you entered O, for example the message would be similar tothe following:

Files will be overwritten

Do you wish to continue? (Y/N)

To continue the installation, type Y and press ENTER. To cancel theinstallation, type N and press ENTER. If the installation is canceled, amessage "Aborting installation" is displayed.

When the installation or upgrade is completed, the following mes-sage is displayed:Installation complete

Exit the UNIX shell and return to EDGE Developer by entering the fol-lowing:exitgoto

When completed, remove the CD from the CD-ROM drive and store itin a safe place.

If you are using AdvantEDGE, you must do the following to yourZATT and ZLPC files:

Rebuild the cross-references. To do this, do the following:

• Select EDGE from the Browser window.



• Select Database from the View menu.

• Highlight the ZATT or ZLPC file.

• Click the Build Cross Reference File command.

Process the files using Local Intelligence Maintenance. For moreinformation, refer to the AdvantEDGE 6.0 Maintenance Manual.

If you are not using AdvantEDGE, the ZATT and ZLPC files must beprocessed against your file that contains location information beforethey can be used. For information about how to set up, process, anduse the EDGE Locator, refer to the EDGE EDGE 7.11 Locator ReferenceManual.



8Installing the EDGE ASAI

Interface

Overview This document describes how to install and start the EDGE/ASAIinterface. Not all platforms supported by EDGE also support theAvaya CV/LAN interface libraries, so a separate package called’tpas_server’ is provided by Portrait Software to act as the linkbetween these systems.

Compatibility The EDGE/ASAI interface supports Avaya Appication Enabled Ser-vices (AES), provided that the ASAI port has been enabled andstarted on the AES server. Additional license costs may be requiredfrom Avaya to enable this port. The EDGE/ASAI interface may alsowork directly with an Avaya MAPD card, however this option is nolonger supported by Avaya.

System Requirements

The EDGE/ASAI interface is supported on the following operatingsystem:


Installing the EDGE ASAI Interface

• Redhat Enterprise Linux v5.3 (x86 platform)

The EDGE/ASAI interface may work on other Linux distributions,however Portrait Software cannot provide support or fixes if runningon any platform other than the one listed above.

It is recommended that at least 6Mb of disk space is made availablefor the EDGE/ASAI interface, to allow sufficient space for log files.

Pre-requisites Before installing the EDGE/ASAI interface, the Avaya CV/LAN clientpackage must first be installed on the system. This package isobtained via Avaya Support and is typically provided in Redhat Pack-age Manager (RPM) format. The following client version is supportedby Portrait Software:

• CV/LAN Client v4.2 or 5.2

If not installed first, the EDGE/ASAI interface package will fail toinstall due to missing dependencies.


Installing the EDGE ASAI Interface Installing the EDGE/ASAI interface

Installing the EDGE/ASAI interfaceFollow these instructions to install EDGE/ASAI telephony server.

Download the EDGE/ASAI interface to the Linux machine, log in to aterminal session as root, and run the following command:# rpm -Uvh tpas_server-###-#.i386.rpm

Where ###-# is the version of the EDGE/ASAI interface you are install-ing. For example:# rpm -Uvh tpas_server-7.7.1-1.i386.rpm

The EDGE/ASAI interface is primarily installed under /opt/edge andthe following files are included as a part of this package:

/opt/edge/bin/tp2as: The EDGE/ASAI interface startup script.

/opt/edge/bin/tpas_server: The EDGE/ASAI server executable.

/etc/default/tpas_server: Startup configuration options for theEDGE/ASAI interface.

/etc/init.d/tpas_server: System startup/shutdown script.



Users and groups added

The EDGE/ASAI installation process creates the user and group ’edge’if they do not exist. After installation of the package, log on as theroot user and set the password for the edge user if necessary.


Configuring EDGE/ASAI

Before the EDGE/ASAI interface is started, the following variablesmust be configured by modifying /etc/default/tpas_server (for auto-matic startup as a service) :

TPAS_INPUT_PORT The TCP/IP port number tpas_server will listen to for incoming messages (must match the output port number configured in EDGE Developer).

TPAS_OUTPUT_PORT The TCP/IP port number tpas_server will listen to for outgoing messages (must match the input port number configured in EDGE Developer).

TPAS_NODE_ID The switch node id, as configured in Avaya AES (typically, this will be signal01, signal02, etc.)



Additional arguments

The following additional arguments may be supplied in theTPAS_ADDITIONAL_ARGS configuration variable. If there are multi-ple arguments, each argument should be separated with a space.

TPAS_OPEN_PATH The hostname of the ASAI AES server (in older CallVisor/MAPD implemen-tations, this variable was set to the device pathname).

TPAS_ADDITIONAL_ARGS Additional arguments supplied to tpas_server (see below)

Automatic Start-up

The EDGE/ASAI interface may be configured to start automaticallywhenever the system is booted up. To do this, one-time configura-tion must be performed on the Linux host. Open a terminal and login to the Linux machine as the root. Then, run the following:# chkconfig --add tpas_server

Once tpas_server has been added as a system service, it can be man-ually started using the following command:# service tpas_server start

It can be manually stopped using the following command;# service tpas_server stop


Manual Startup using tp2as

To start the tpas_server manually using the tp2as script, open a ter-minal session and log in to the Linux machine as the ’edge’ user.

NO_RT Specifies that EDGE should not regis-ter as a Host-Based Router. Only a limited number of adjuncts (switch applications) may register as a router, so this option should be left as is unless you are planning to the EDGE HBR feature (see the EDGE Telephony Reference manual for more details)

Then, run the following:$ cd /opt/edge/bin; ./tp2as start

Once started, the log file ’asai.log0’ will be created.

Note: Before running the tp2as script, you should modify it to ensurethat environment variables are set correctly for your particulary envi-ronment.

InterfaceThis document describes how to install EDGE ODBC.

The installation package includes the following:

• EDGE server CD.

• EDGE ODBC SimbaClient 5.0 disks.

• These installation instructions. Before you begin your installa-tion, read through the instructions. If you have any questions,please contact EDGE Customer Care.

Server system requirements:

• EDGE installed on the server.

• Access to root.

• TCP/IP network connection.


Installing the EDGE ODBC Interface

• X Windows/Motif workstation.

• An authorization password to enable EDGE ODBC. ContactEDGE Customer Care as advised in the procedure to obtainthe authorization password.

Client system requirements:

• TCP/IP network connection.

• Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0.

• WINSOCK.DLL installed in the Windows directory.


Installing the EDGE ODBC Interface ODBC Server Installation

ODBC Server InstallationIf using a previous version of EDGE ODBC, you need to terminate anySimba processes on your server. To check for Simba processes, enterthe following:ps -ef | grep Sim

To terminate the Simba processes, enter the following:kill -15 processID

where processID is the Simba process number.

If using a previous version of EDGE ODBC, it is recommended thatyou uninstall the SimbaExpress 4.0 on your server machine. The Sim-baExpress 4.0 and SimbaEngine 6.0 will not work together. If youchoose to keep the older version for use with older versions of EDGEprojects, ensure that SimbaExpress 4.0 and SimbaEngine 6.0 are keptin separate accounts on your server.

Create a UNIX user account on your server with a group ID of edge.For example, if your platform is HP or Solaris:useradd -c "SimbaEngine 6.0" -d /home/simba51 -m -g edge -s /bin/ksh simba51

Note: SMIT is used to create a UNIX user account on AIX.

Change to the root user. For example:



su - root

Insert the EDGE ODBC server CD into the CD-ROM drive on yourserver machine.

Mount the CD-ROM drive by entering the following based upon yourapplicable platform:

Log into the user account you created earlier.

Return to the UNIX user account you created previously.

Using any text editor on your server, open the .profile file located inyour home directory. For example, /home/simba51.

Merge the .profile in your home directory with the sample.profile inthe samples directory. For example, if using vi, do the following atthe end of your file::r samples/sample.profile

Delete any duplicated lines that appear as a result of the merge.

Save the .profile account. For example, if using vi, do the following:esc:wq

Copy the sample.simbaenv.sh file to the home directory. For exam-ple:cp samples/sample.simbaenv.sh simbaenv.sh

Using any text editor, open the simbaenv.sh file now located in yourhome directory.

Replace the "<EDGE_DIRECTORY>" text with the $EDGE value.

Replace the "<EDGESYS_DIRECTORY>" text with the $EDGESYSvalue.



Save the simbaenv.sh file.

Log out and back in to your account to update the environment vari-ables.

Copy the sample.odbc.ini file to the home directory. For example:cp samples/sample.odbc.ini .odbc.ini

Using any text editor, open the odbc.ini file now located in yourhome directory.

Replace the "<EDGE_PROJECT>" text with the project name.

Note: The project name is case sensitive.

If this is a new install and you have not created a project yet, you mayadd this information later to the odbc.ini file.

Replace the "<EDGESYS_DIRECTORY>" text with the $EDGESYSvalue.

Save the odbc.ini file.

Log in to EDGE Developer.

Select EDGE and then select ACL from the Window menu.



Go to the UNIX shell by entering the following:!sh

Change to a temporary directory. For example: cd /usr/tmppwd/usr/tmp (The system should return this.)

Move the odbcdriver.tar.Z file to your temporary directory by enter-ing the following:cp <HOME_DIRECTORY>/odbcdriver.tar.Z .

where <HOME_DIRECTORY> is your $HOME value of your createdaccount.

Uncompress the ODBC driver component by entering the following:uncompress odbcdriver.tar.Z

Extract the ODBC driver component by entering the following:tar xvf odbcdriver.tar

Install the EDGE ODBC driver component by entering the following:./odbcinstall

At this point, you are prompted for an authorization password. Toget the authorization password, contact EDGE Customer Care. Theauthorization password is only valid for a limited time and should beused immediately.



Exit the UNIX shell and return to EDGE Developer by entering the fol-lowing:exitgoto

When completed, remove the CD from the drive and store it in a safeplace.

ODBC Client Installationt

If using a previous version of EDGE ODBC, you must uninstall theSimbaClient 4.0 from your workstation by using the Add/Removeprogram icon in the Control Panel.

To install the client portion of Simba, insert the SimbaClient disk intothe disk drive on your workstation.

Execute the setup.exe program located on the disk.

Follow the on-screen instructions for the setup program.

To create a data source on your PC, execute the ODBC Data SourceAdministrator from the Control Panel.

Add a user data source by selecting the Add button.

Select SimbaClient (version 5.00.00.05) as the driver on the CreateNew Data Source screen.



Select the Finish button.

Enter a descriptive name in the Client data source name field on theSimbaClient ODBC Configuration screen. This is the name you willselect to connect from an ODBC compliant application.

Enter a description in the Client description field.

Enter the name of your project in the Server data source name field.The project name must match the project name used in the .odbc.inifile.

Enter the IP address of your server machine in the Address field.

Enter the port number 1583 in the Port field.

Save the data source by selecting the OK button.

Exit the ODBC Data Source Administrator by selecting the OK button.

When completed, remove the disk from the drive and store it in asafe place.



10Installing EDGEdial

Overview This document describes how to install the EDGEdial plug-in soft-ware, version 6.24a.

To use, you must have the following:

• EDGEdial plug-in Dialer v6.24a installation disks whichincludes the EDGEdial plug-in and Licenser.

• EDGEdial plug-in Remote Viewer v1.2 installation disk.

• EDGEdial plug-in parallel port security block.

• A running EDGE server

System Requirements

The following is the minimum requirements for the EDGEdial plug-in:

• Windows NT 4.0 workstation or server. Service pack 6 is rec-ommended.

• Winzip version 7.0 or later.


Installing EDGEdial

• Administrator access.

• A serial number to enable the EDGEdial plug-in Software. Toobtain the serial number, contact EDGE Customer Care.

The following is the minimum requirements for the Remote Viewer:

• Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0 workstation orserver.

Now read one of the following:

• Installing the EDGEdial Plug-in

• Upgrading the EDGEdial plug-in

Restart your computer. The dialer is written as a native NT serviceand is automatically loaded by the NT Service Manager during thestartup sequence.

To verify the install occurred properly, log on to your NT machine asadministrator.

Select Service Manager from the Control Panel found in the Startmenu.

Verify that the Predictive Dialer Server service was added to the list.



Confirm that the service is running and the startup is set to auto-matic.

Select Startup and confirm that Log On As is set to System Accountand that the Allow service to interact with the desktop is enabled.

License the EDGEdial plug-in

Install the EDGEdial plug-in security block on your parallel port.


Execute the installation program Licenser.exe located on the EDGE-dial plug-in installation disk.

The EDGEdial plug-in Licenser dialog box similar to the following isdisplayed:



E-mail the serial number displayed in the dialog box to EDGE Cus-tomer Care along with your complete company name and the totalnumber of seats.

EDGE Customer Care will return an authorization code to you. Dis-pensation of the authorization code requires verification of yourlicense, which may take several hours.

Execute the installation program Licenser.exe again.



Enter the authorization code. After about 10 seconds, you willreceive a dialog box similar to the following confirming the licenseand maximum agent count:

The EDGEdial plug-in installation and licensing is now complete.

Install Remote Viewer

Note: The Remote Viewer should be installed on the dialer and any-where else you want to review dialing campaign stats.



Place the EDGEdial Plug-in installation disk into the applicable drive.

Execute the installation program Remote_Viewer_Setup.exe.

Run the Remote Viewer and enter the machine address of the EDGE-dial plug-in when prompted at the Set Dialer Server Address dialogbox.

Remove the EDGEdial plug-in installation disk from your drive.

The Remote Viewer installation is now complete.


Installing EDGEdial Upgrading the EDGEdial plug-in

Upgrading the EDGEdial plug-inWhen upgrading the EDGEdial plug-in, the program provides totalbackward compatibility and therefore will maintain your currentconfiguration.

To upgrade the EDGEdial plug-in from version 6.0 to 6.24, completethe following steps:

Log on to your NT machine as administrator.

For a stand alone NT workstation or NT server, log on as the localmachine administrator. If the system is participating in an NTdomain, log on as the NT domain Administrator.

Place the EDGEdial plug-in installation disk into the applicable drive.


Execute the installation program EDGEdial_Plugin_Setup.exe.

Follow the on-screen instructions.

Remove the EDGEdial plug-in installation disk from your drive.


Installing EDGEdial Upgrading the EDGEdial plug-in

Restart your computer. The dialer is written as a native NT serviceand is automatically loaded by the NT Service Manager during thestartup sequence.

To verify the install occurred properly, log on to your NT machine asadministrator.

Select Service Manager from the Control Panel found in the Startmenu.

Verify that the Predictive Dialer Server service was added to the list.

Confirm that the service is running and the startup is set to auto-matic.

Note: It is not necessary to re-license the product. The new version ofEDGEdial plug-in will recognize the older version and update thelicense.

11Installing EDGE Developer

Overview Only one instance of EDGE Developer may be installed on a singleWindows machine. Before upgrading an existing EDGE Developerinstallation, you must remove any old installations via the Add/Remove Programs dialog from the Windows Control Panel.

Note: If you have any version of EDGE Developer or ETW-W prior tov7.3 (which uses the Wise Installer), it is strongly recommendedthat you uninstall this program first. Failure to do so may rendersome parts of EDGE Developer unusable. This can be achievedopening the Control Panel, opening Add/Remove Programs, andselecting ’EDGE Developer’ or ’ETWW’, depending on the versionyou currently have installed.

System Requirements

• Windows XP or Windows 7

• 15Mb of free disk space

• TCP/IP connectivity to a host running EDGE


Installing EDGE Developer

Note: The above information is a guide only. For up-to-date systemrequirements, please check the release notes that came withyour EDGE installation media. If you do not have a release notesdocument for your specific version of EDGE, please contact EDGECustomer Care.

Locate the Installation Media

Either place the EDGE Developer Software CD into the applicabledrive, or locate the Microsoft Installer Package (MSI).

The MSI file will have a name similar to the following:developer-x.y.z.msi

Where x.y.z indicates the major, minor, and maintenance releasenumber of your EDGE Developer version. You should ensure that themajor (x) and minor (y) version numbers match the major and minorversion number of the EDGE host you are connecting too. Mainte-nance releases whose number (z) is greater than one contain bug-fixes only, and are compatible with any version of EDGE as long asthe major and minor version numbers are the same.

Start the Installation

Log onto your Windows PC as an administrator. Failing to do so mayresult in insufficient permissions to install the EDGE Developer soft-ware.



Open the client-x.y.z.msi by double-clicking the file, or right-click thefile and select ’Install’.

The Welcome dialog box for EDGE Developer appears. To continue,select the NEXT button.

Please read and review the Software License Agreement. Select theradio button to accept the terms of the license agreement thenselect the NEXT button to continue with the installation.

The Customer Information dialog appears. Enter your user name andorganization name then select the appropriate radio button to indi-cate whether you wish to install the EDGE Developer for all users orjust the local user on this PC. Press NEXT to continue.

The Select Destination Folder dialog dialog appears. This specifiesthe destination directory where you want EDGE Developer to beinstalled. To accept the default directory displayed, select NEXT; oth-erwise specify a different directory by clicking the Change button,then select NEXT.

The Setup Type dialog appears. Select the type of installation youwish to perform. By default the Complete option is selected. This willall EDGE Client and all other programs required to run the EDGEDeveloper. Click NEXT to continue otherwise select the Custominstall option to select just the components you want to install. A



Custom installation is only to be used if directed by the EDGE prod-uct support team.

If you want to review or change any of the installation settings clickthe BACK button otherwise click the INSTALL button to start theinstallation or CANCEL to exit the installation wizard.

The installation will begin and may take a few minutes to complete.The Installation Completed dialog box for EDGE Developer appears.To complete the installation, select the FINISH button. The installa-tion is now complete.

Before using EDGE Developer

If this is a new installation or new directory for EDGE Developer, awarning similar to the following may display when you start EDGEDeveloper:

There is a problem with the configuration for connection. Please check the configuration file...

The warning message indicates that the connection between yourworkstation and the server needs to be setup. Select OK to continue.To establish your connection to the server, select Setup from the File



menu. For more information, see the EDGE Developer ReferenceManual.

Only one instance of EDGE Client may be installed on a single Win-dows machine. Before upgrading an existing EDGE Client installa-tion, you must remove any old installations via the Add/RemovePrograms dialog from the Windows Control Panel.

Note: If you have any version of EDGE Client or GEO prior to v7.3(which uses the Wise Installer), it is strongly recommended thatyou uninstall this program first. Failure to do so may rendersome parts of EDGE Client unusable. This can be achieved open-ing the Control Panel, opening Add/Remove Programs, andselecting ’EDGE Client’ or ’GEO’, depending on the version youcurrently have installed.

Either place the EDGE Client Software CD into the applicable drive, orlocate the Microsoft Installer Package (MSI).

The MSI file will have a name similar to the following:client-x.y.z.msi

Where x.y.z indicates the major, minor, and maintenance releasenumber of your EDGE Client version. You should ensure that themajor (x) and minor (y) version numbers match the major and minorversion number of the EDGE host you are connecting too. Mainte-nance releases whose number (z) is greater than one contain bug-fixes only, and are compatible with any version of EDGE as long asthe major and minor version numbers are the same.


Log onto your Windows PC as an administrator. Failing to do so mayresult in insufficient permissions to install the EDGE Client software.



Open the client-x.y.z.msi by double-clicking the file, or right-click thefile and select ’Install’.

The Welcome dialog box for EDGE Client appears. To continue, selectthe NEXT button.


The Customer Information dialog appears. Enter your user name andorganization name then select the appropriate radio button to indi-cate whether you wish to install the EDGE Client for all users or justthe local user on this PC. Press NEXT to continue.

The Select Destination Folder dialog dialog appears. This specifiesthe destination directory where you want EDGE Client to be installed.To accept the default directory displayed, select NEXT; otherwisespecify a different directory by clicking the Change button, thenselect NEXT.

The Setup Type dialog appears. Select the type of installation youwish to perform. By default the Complete option is selected. This willall EDGE Client and all other programs required to run the EDGE Cli-ent. Click NEXT to continue otherwise select the Custom installoption to select just the components you want to install. A Custom



installation is only to be used if directed by the EDGE product sup-port team.


The installation will begin and may take a few minutes to complete.The Installation Completed dialog box for EDGE Client appears. Tocomplete the installation, select the FINISH button. The installation isnow complete.

The installation process creates a new desktop icon labelled ’EDGEClient’. Double-click this file, or select Start -> Programs -> EDGE ->EDGE Client to launch EDGE Client.

Before Using EDGE Client

Before allowing users to log into EDGE Client, make sure that at leastone guide has been assembled and swapped.

If no guide has been assembled and swapped, and you are loggingin using Terminal Emulation, the following messages are displayed:Starting GEO interface...Operations Guide not available. Guide needs to be swapped.



If no guide has been assembled and swapped, and you are using LogIn... on the EDGE Client File menu, your system will time out and thefollowing message is displayed:

Unable to login to the server on the host system. Please verify the server login and password in the Connection Setup and try again.
