PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Welcome back to the 2019 school year, we have been very impressed with how

the children have returned to school settled and ready for another year of

learning and growth. A special welcome to our new and Kindergarten students

and their families. We look forward to building relationships with you all.

As we enter the new school year, I want to let you know that our staff will be

engaging in conversations around building high expectations relationships,

STEAM and Inquiry based learning, flexible classroom seating, formative

assessment and collaborative data conversations around student achievement

and planning for learning.

Attendance

Edgeworth Public School believes that students who are most successful

academically and socially are those who attend school on a daily basis. Regular

and punctual attendance maximises the opportunities for students to learn and

succeed.

We believe parents, teachers and community need to be responsible for regular

attendance and punctuality to ensure that our students are able to connect,

succeed and thrive across all aspects of their educational journey.

We monitor attendance closely as per the NSW DoE policy. If students are

absent from school an explanation via our text service, contact made to our

school office or class teacher is required within 7 days of an absence.

Dismissal Procedures

To ensure the safety of our students when leaving school we introduced new

dismissal procedures this year. Thank you for your patience with its

introduction, we will continue to monitor its success and make changes if

needed.

Term 4 Staff Development Day

At the end of the year the two Staff Development Days designated by the DoE

will be ‘traded off’ by our staff through 4 extended professional learning

sessions each Term. This will result in the school being non-operational for the

last two days. These days are not days that students attend, therefore will have

no effect on our community.

Student Belongings

We understand the expenses families incur every year to purchase uniforms, lunch

boxes, drinks bottles, hats etc. We’d like remind students to be responsible for their

belongings and the importance of labelling. We have a fast growing pile of lost

items that we are unable to get back to our students. Our lost property can be

found in the office.

Communication

The school utilises 4 main forms of communicating with our community. School Newsletters are produced twice

a Term in Weeks 4 and 9. Copies are available in the office or can be accessed from our school website, where

there is lots of other information also. Facebook and Class Dojo are where we frequently remind about upcoming

events, share what is going on at school and celebrate success. Please keep an eye on these platforms and keep

your Stage calendars handy to keep in touch with all of the great things that are happening at EPS.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child at school you are encouraged to first make contact with

your child’s teacher via the school office or on Class Dojo. Making an appointment is also advised as teachers

have many before and after school meetings that they are required to attend. You child is important to us and we

want to ensure that we have the time you need allocated to these conversations rather then when we are

rushing off. Stage APs are your next point of contact, followed by the Deputy Principal then the Principal. An

overview of our staff can be found on the following page.

School Planning

We are in our second year of our current school plan. Below is a reminder of our school vision statement that

drives all the we do at our school. We would appreciate our feedback throughout the year on how we are going

in an effort to ensure we are meeting our targets. Students are at the centre of all that we do.

Welcome to Preschool! It has been a pleasure to welcome the children in our 2 new groups to Preschool this year. Group 1 Our group 1 pre-schoolers excitedly explore the preschool enclosure. In the outdoor environment the water play is enjoyed by all children. Using bottles, cups and funnels the children explored the movement of the magic coloured water. The monster trucks zoom around the yard whilst a castle and tower appeared in the sandpit. The children have settled in very quickly into the preschool routines, listening attentively to stories and participating in songs and rhymes. During indoor play the home corner came alive with the children’s imagination. Peg boards are used to create patterns and pictures. Many children are engaged in the painting and drawing experiences. The children also had the opportunity to vote on a group name. This group will now by known as the Penguins! Group 2 The children have enjoyed exploring the outdoor environment, engaging in a variety of experiences that allowed them to familiarise themselves with the preschool and other children. There are cakes and pancakes being cooked in the mud kitchen, paper planes zooming around, wheelbarrows on the move and monster trucks rolling down ramps. The children excitedly interact with each other bringing their imagination into the experiences that were occurring. Inside the preschool room the experiences are endless. Dinosaurs and dragons are appearing in the block area whilst a birthday party was held in the home corner. Train tracks were built extending across the room whilst a beauty parlour got into full swing. Construction and creativity could be seen throughout the room. Children have settled well into the new routine of preschool life. They have supported each other in this transition through the use of kind words and offers of assurance. All of them had the opportunity to vote for a name for the group. Preschool group 2 will be known as the Dingoes!

ready for a fun, engaging year of learning ahead.

Who’s who in the Zoo?

3/4G - Mr Graham

3/4G have made a promising start to the year.

I am very impressed with their work ethic and attitude. They have been

busy settling into their new classroom, getting to know each other, and

warming up for all the learning ahead of them. Stay tuned and strap

yourselves in for the amazing year that lies before us.

4M - Mrs McBlane

In 4M we have been getting to know each other and

reminding ourselves of our PBL Expectations. We have

already shared lots of laughs and have decided that we

can make a really great team when we work together.

In 4M we know that to achieve great things we have to

set goals and overcome challenges to achieve them.

2/3T- Mr Trenter

Mr Trenter is excited to be helping the students in 2-3T

achieve their learning goals this term. We have settled

into our new room and routines at this busy time of the

year. We have begun some great imaginative writing

pieces in literacy and have been working with whole

number addition and subtraction strategies in maths.

We are looking forward to the year ahead and the

challenges it brings!

3/4C - Miss Foster

Welcome to 3/4C! We have had an excellent start to the

year already, making new friends and beginning/continuing

our Stage 2 learning journey. In 3/4C we have lots of unique

personalities who enjoy playing various sports,

reading, writing, maths, science and creative arts. We have

been looking at our class expectations, setting up our

routines and getting out of holiday mode. 3/4C and Miss

Foster can’t wait to show off some of the amazing things

that we will get up to this year.

4W- Mr Wright

Welcome to 4W 2019. In 4W, we have started the year

off with a bang, producing quality work based around

Australia Day and what we did in the holidays. We have

cooperatively worked together to create a class

agreement, which incorporates the school PBL values of

Respect, Responsibility and Learning, and ensures that

everyone is happy. We are very excited for the year

ahead and the many fun events that it has in store for us.

3I -Mrs Italiano

Welcome to 3I! In Room 3, we have had a very

exciting start to 2019! We spent the first few days

getting to know each other, setting up our routines

and expectations and reviewing the things we have

already learnt last year. We are a class full of bubbly

personalities, driven and hard working children who

have diverse cultural backgrounds. As a class we are

very excited for the year ahead and can’t wait for

what 2019 holds.

dedicated teachers and excited and eager students making for a positive beginning.

A couple of quick reminders-

5/6G

It’s been a fantastic start to the year for 5/6G. The students have come well together, and quickly formed some

new friendships and a bond as a class. Our Year 6 students have enjoyed meeting and spending time with their

Kindy buddies, where they are proving to be wonderful role models. As a class, they have had fun getting to

know each other, and get into their learning for the year.

6R

6R have had a brilliant start to 2019! We have enjoyed meeting our buddies and helping them settle into

primary school. 6R have been incredible role models for their buddy, demonstrating our 3 school values. We

have enjoyed settling into the newest classroom at EPS, and we are loving being the leaders of the school. 6R

have decided on their learning and personal goals and can't wait to grow our mindset to achieve the goals we

have set. Go 6R!

6C

6C have had a busy and productive start to the new school year. They are thriving with the extra responsibilities

and have been caring and reliable buddies to our new kindergarten students. They have enjoyed participating in

CAPA groups where they have created musical circuits using Makey Makey kits. 6C are excited to introduce a

class economy system into the classroom this year.

6T

The students were excited to begin their magical journey in 6T as they venture on their last year at Edgeworth

Public School. The class have eagerly embraced the Harry Potter theme as we look to explore the author’s

imaginative text and what makes the plot and characters so memorable. They have already taken on many

responsibilities as the students help the new kindergarten students navigate their first year and experiment with

flexible seating.

5E

5E are off to an amazing start to 2019. Each student has begun the year with an impressive drive to learn and a

wonderful attitude to school. As a class they have enjoyed getting to know each other and have created

insightful classroom expectations together. Already 5E have been excited to take part in the Stage 3 creative arts

hour and are looking forward to participating in a range of amazing upcoming activities. By choosing to focus on

encouragement and positivity in their 2019 goals, 5E is ready to tackle all of the exciting challenges of Stage 3 as

a class.

5M

We have been having a great time in 5M getting to know each other and creating a wonderful classroom

environment. We have also been busy getting started on all of our assessments to assist us in meeting the

individual needs of our students. We have introduced a multiplication license which allows students to see and

track their progress and will be setting learning intentions for literacy and numeracy over the coming weeks. We

are looking forward to working with the students in 5M and their families.
