DENPASAR - A noted criminologist fromstate University of Indonesia expressed support hereon Saturday for the government’s plan to form anational anti-terrorism body to synergize terrorismhandling in Indonesia.

“This is big progress. However, it is still be-ing considered whether it will be formed into acommittee or a division at a preventive level. Sofar the concept of strategy is still unclear,” AdrianusMeliala said while attending a workshop on terror-ism prevention.

Adrianus said the body would function morelike an intelligence analyst specializing on terror-ism. It also involves analysis, intelligence and com-bat but will not only be a special detachment but italso has a military unit with special characteristics,he said.

“Like in the air force we have ‘Paskhas’ (spe-cial unit), in the navy, the marines unit, and in thearmy ‘Kopassus’. So it is hoped its movement willbe more harmonious,” he said.

He said it could also involve units such asunits of biology, chemistry, database and forensic.

“With the presence of the institution it is hopedthere will be a synergy. So far they operate by them-selves,” he said.

Branch Temple of Pucak Kedaton, PadanganCustomary Village, Pupuan, I Wayan Wela aliasPan Gablor, has been imposed with customarysanction. Besides, the case remained to be fol-lowed up by police officer.

Pan Gablor was also obliged to organizepecaruan guru piduka durmanggala or exor-cism and apological rite and material sanctionin the form of 1 ton of rice. Within the custom-ary meeting attended by kertha desa (custom-ary advisory board), temple priests, village fig-ures, village representatives (BPD) and custom-ary apparatus, last Friday (Oct 30) night, PanGablor was imposed with the obligation ofmecaru and rice fine. Otherwise, the residentcould be imposed with sanction of being ex-pelled from the village (kasepekang).

One of the members of kertha desa ofPadangan Customary Village, Jro Putu Tesan, last Sunday (Nov 1), said that such sanction hasbeen pursuant to customary legislation article

Mas Suyasa said that such decision and con-tract agreement of the land were initiated in theprevious meeting of village apparatus engag-ing all nayaka. He said that such decision didnot violate customary regulations and conven-tion because location of villa belonging to in-vestor from the Netherlands, Hans vanHammert, was away from Gumang Temple.

In addition, Mas Suyasa said that location ofvilla contracted for 30 years located at south-west of hill where on its peak indeed lay theGumang Temple. “Its location is far from templeand the territory has included in Nyuh Awis atthe northwest foot of Gumang Hill,” said MasSuyasa who is also former Deputy Head ofKarangasem House.

Since the contract fee was required to financeceremonies, village apparatus gave recommen-dation to investor to submit a building permit toKarangasem Regent through the Head of Pub-lic Works Services. “Because we know the hillarea functions as reserve, we issued a recom-mendation so intermediary of investor could pro-

Both Mas Suyasa and Gunarsa rejected tomention the number of contract value of the land.“Its contract agreement is stored at the village,”said Mas Suyasa. As has been published previ-ously, the investor from the Netherlands, Hansvan Hammert, has had building permit No. 90/2008 dated September 15, 2008 under the nameof submitter I Wayan Gunarsa. If violator did not undertake the sanction, heor she could loss the rights and duties or expelledfrom village territory. Such sanction, said Tesan, has been socialized to local residents pursuantto decision of village meeting. Pan Gablor, saidTesan, did not attend the meeting but he sent anenvoy and stated to accept the decision. As con-sequence, he was ready to undertake the deci-sion of customary village. Ritual of presentingguru piduka durmanggala would be organizedcoinciding with the fifth full moon, Monday (Nov2) at location of Branch Temple of PucakKedaton, Padangan Kelod. The fine of 1-ton ricewould be promptly handed over to customaryapparatus and could not be exchanged withmoney. Tesan added that though has given a cus-tomary sanction to perpetrator; his party wouldnot withdraw the report to police. (kmb14)

Criminologist supports establishmentof national anti-terrorism body

He said the role of anti-terror Densus 88unit was not belittled but the unit would be partof its combat group. Its role is not reduced butalong with the army it would carry out combatoperations based upon their expertise.

Adrianus admitted that most of the anti-ter-ror role had been played by Densus 88 from thepolice.

He said if the anti-terror body would finallybe established it was suggested that three divi-sions would be set up in it namely combat, intel-ligence and support divisions in addition to, ifdeemed necessary, a deradicalization division.

Adrianus said that it was all still under dis-cussion and there was no need to hurry for it.

“If it is being rushed it is feared it have po-litical consequences. Besides cost, also needs tobe put into consideration. If the concept is reallymature only then will we urge for its develop-ment,” he said.

Adrianus said he agreed with the idea be-cause terrorism handling so far had been carriedout without concept and upon irregular basis.

Even a lot of work has been saddled onDensus 88 starting from detection, investigationto an ambush. “Even after the actors are caughtDensus still has to take care of their families,”he said.

PARIS - Twenty years after thefall of the Berlin Wall, newly re-leased diplomatic files reveal theextent to which Germany’s supposedfriends in London and Paris werefearful of the country’s reunification.

France’s then president FrancoisMitterrand and Britain’s prime min-ister Margaret Thatcher were bothcaught out by the speed with whichthe Germans remade their country inthe wake of Communism’s collapse.

While Thatcher’s supporters wouldgo on to portray her as the heroine ofthe West’s victory in the Cold War, avictory symbolised by the Wall’s col-lapse, at the time the prospect of Ger-man reunification “horrified” her.

“In 1989 we gave the impressionof wavering in the face of history.Twenty years on, let’s do it justice,”said Pierre Lellouche, French Eu-ropean affairs minister, as he fol-lowed Britain in opening the 1989-90 diplomatic archive.

Given the subsequent success ofthe reunification project, and thewarm ties that Paris in particular nowhas with Berlin, the files will makeuncomfortable reading for someFrench and British political veterans.

“France and Great Britain shouldpull together today in the face of theGerman threat,” Thatcher told theFrench ambassador to London inMarch 1990, according to a Frenchdiplomatic telegram released for theanniversary.

“Kohl is capable of anything. He

has become another man. He doesn’tknow himself any more. He sees him-self as the master and is starting toact like it,” she warned, according tothe French translation of her remarks.

French historian Maurice Vaisse, who helped supervise the release ofthe files, said that Thatcher appeared“horrified” by the prospect that Ger-man reunification would make Ber-lin the dominant force in Europe.

According to the British archive, two months before the fall of theWall, Thatcher told the Soviet leaderMikhail Gorbachev that “neitherBritain nor Western Europe wantedthe reunification of Germany”.

“This would lead to a change topostwar borders, and we cannot al-low that because such a develop-ment would undermine the stabilityof the whole international situationand could endanger our security,”she said.

His government has also prom-ised to review a 2006 bilateralagreement on the roughly 47,000US troops based in Japan — in-cluding the scheduled move of aUS airbase on Okinawa island froman urban area to a coastal regionby 2014.

The boat started taking on waterlate on Sunday and issued a distresscall, prompting a plea for help byAustralian authorities that was an-swered by the LNG tanker and fish-ing craft.

The pair have been under investigation for a range of alleged crimesincluding bribery and abuse of power.

Many Austronesian cultures found in Papua’s coastal areasjects and artifacts found in Papua’scoastal areas showed the existence ofAustronesian cultures in Indonesia’seasternmost province.

Austronesian cultures were knownand spread out by people who spokeAustronesian languages betweenMadagascar in the west and Easter Is-land (in the Pacific) in the east as wellas Formosa in the north.

The evidence of these culturesfound in Papua was the Melanesianlanguage spoken by some people as aresult of the influence of theAustronesian languages.

“This can be seen in the grammarand vocabularies,” Suroto said.

According to the archaeologicalresearch, the Papuan areas where theMelanesian language is spoken areYapen Island, Raja Ampat District,Biak, Waropen, Teluk Wandamen andan area along Teluk CenderawasihBeach. The others are those in thewestern point of Papua from SorongDistrict to the south along the beachof Sele Strait, areas around BintuniBay, Arguni Bay till the costal areasof Etna Bay.

In addition, Papuans who settle in

the districts of Fak-fak, Raja Ampat,Yotefa Bay, Waena and Sentani in thenorth side of Jayapura, apply a com-munity organization with an hierarchysystem in which the leaders are heredi-tary raise.

“This is another evidence of theAustronesia cultures which are foundin the coastal areas of Papua,” Surotosaid.

Such cultures are not found in theMiddle Mountains (PegununganTengah) community who tend to con-sider that they are of equal level anddignity.

Meanwhile, the tattoo tradition inthe northern coast of Papua,Cenderawasih Bay and the area of BirdHead in Papua is also an evidence ofthe Austronesian cultures.

Among the tribes who make tattoosare the Meybrat Tribe that live in theBird Head area are those belongingto the Waropen Tribe, the Biak-Numfor Tribe and Sentani people inJayapura. He hoped the great numberof archaeological research discoveringcultural progress in Papua could be-come assets for Papuans in the nationaldynamism and development activities.

Protection, Distanak Buleleng, KetutSantiana, justified that more than onethousand clusters of banana trees inBuleleng underwent damage due to theattack of fungi, bacteria and carrion. He admitted that the attack actually has

happened since 1985; however, itcould not be eradicated totally. “Theattack of fungi, bacteria and carrionbeetles usually ensue during transi-tional season like this October,” hesaid.

According to Santiana, the ob-stacle encountered in eradicating bac-teria and fungi attacking banana trees, one of them, was that banana has notbeen seriously cultivated in Buleleng.Usually, banana was planted in themidst of other plants as intercrops andthen they were disregarded withoutgood maintenance.

If fungi or bacteria have attackedthe plant, said Santiana, farmersshould dismantle the entire cluster ofbanana until its root. The soil ex dis-eased banana was left to have a holeand then it was planted again with thenew ones few days later. At least, farm-ers only disposed the damaged trunkof banana, while its shoots were leftto grow. “Actually, the shoot has beeninfected by fungi so that it could beensured that the trunk will be damagedwhen bearing fruit,” he said. SYDNEY - Australia sharply up-graded its growth and jobs forecasts onMonday after bouncing back from thedownturn but warned it was still oncourse for a record budget deficit.

Treasurer Wayne Swan said theeconomy was set to grow 1.5 percentin the current financial year, up from a0.5 percent contraction forecast in theMay budget, while unemploymentwould peak at a lower-than-expected6.75 percent.

The forecasts, unveiled in thegovernment’s mid-year budget update, come a day before Australia is expectedto raise interest rates for the second timein as many months following its world-

The newspaper said in its analysisof corporate filings that in the secondquarter, the 500 largest non-financialUS firms held about 994 billion dol-lars in cash and short-term investments,or 9.8 percent of their assets.

The figure was up from 846 bil-lion dollars, or 7.9 percent of assets, ayear earlier, the report said.

The trend appears to have contin-ued in the third quarter, despite an im-proving economy, The Journal noted.

WASHINGTON - CIT Group, one of the largest small-business lend-ers in the United States, filed for bank-ruptcy Sunday with its board approv-ing a “prepackaged” restructuring planto shed 10 billion dollars in debt.

After being rescued from almostcertain collapse in July following a USgovernment rejection of a bailout plea, the company had struggled for monthsto stay afloat, receiving an emergencyloan of 4.5 billion dollars as recentlyas October 28.

But when a comprehensive debt-exchange plan recently failed, the boardof the company, which ran into finan-cial problems after a home mortgagemeltdown plunged the country into itsworst crisis in decades, had begun re-organizing its capital structure aheadof a possible bankruptcy.

“With the overwhelming sup-port of its debt-holders, the boardof directors voted to proceed withthe prepackaged plan of reorgani-zation for CIT Group Inc and asubsidiary that will restructure thecompany’s debt and streamline itscapital structure,” the companysaid in a statement after the boardmet Sunday.

“Under the plan, CIT expectsto reduce total debt by approxi-mately 10 billion dollars, signifi-cantly reduce its liquidity needsover the next three years, enhanceits capital ratios and accelerate itsreturn to profitability.”

WASHINGTON - US companies, still reeling from a deep economic recession, are hoardingmore cash than at any time in the past 40 years, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

Of those 500 companies, 248 havereported third-quarter results. Theircash increased to 11.1 percent of as-sets, from 10.1 percent in the secondquarter.

Companies as diverse as AlcoaInc., Google Inc., PepsiCo Inc. andTexas Instruments Inc. all reported bigthird-quarter increases in cash holdings, the paper noted.

“Everyone is hoarding cash,” TheJournal quotes Carsten Stendevad, head

of Citigroup Inc.’s financial-strategygroup, as saying.

Large cash balances are both acurse for the economy and a potentialblessing, the paper said. Hoardingmeans companies are spending and in-vesting less, damping economicgrowth. But that leaves them with morecash to deploy as the economy im-proves, giving them a freer hand to ac-quire and to restart hiring and capitalspending.

“What Australia has achieved issomething special. We have avoidedthe destruction of our capital and ourskills base that is usually accompa-nied by a sharp recession,” Swan toldreporters.

“That’s something that all Austra-lians can be proud of because it’s some-thing that we have done together.”

However, the record budgetdeficit outlined in May looked set towiden slightly from 57.6 to 57.7 bil-lion dollars (52.0 billion US), or 4.7percent of GDP, while the economywill operate below capacity “forsome time”, Swan said.

“Notwithstanding the improve-ment in the economic outlook, the

economy is not yet growing at a ratesufficient to prevent further rises inunemployment, incomes remain underpressure, and a sustained recovery inthe major advanced economies is notyet assured,” he said.

Swan said Australia remained oncourse to balance the books by 2016,although net debt would hit a height of10.0 percent of GDP in 2013-2014.Unemployment was earlier forecast topeak at 8.5 percent next year.

The central bank is widelytipped to raise rates again on Tues-day after lifting them off five-decadelows last month, making Australia thefirst major Western economy to with-draw monetary stimulus in the wakeof the downturn.

executive Jeffrey Peek said the planwould allow its subsidiaries, includ-ing CIT Bank, to continue opera-tions through the reorganization.

“This market-based solution al-lows CIT to enter into the reorgani-zation process well-prepared andpositioned for a swift emergence,”Peek said in a statement.

About 85 percent of CIT’s re-ported 30 billion dollars in bonddebt participated in the voting, with90 percent of them supporting thebankruptcy plan, the company said.

The restructuring by CIT,which provides financing to nearlyone million small businesses andmiddle market companies, is a testcase of sorts for an industry whosevery business depends on the trustand confidence of customers andcreditors.

In December, CIT Group re-ceived 2.3 billion dollars from theUS Treasury as part of an emer-gency rescue package, but the tax-payer money is expected to bewiped out in the restructuring.

The decision in July not to fur-ther bail out CIT came after the USgovernment injected tens of billionsof dollars into the banking systemand outlined a policy of helpinglarge firms as the financial systemcame under pressure following thecrisis.

A US administration official atthe time said the decrease in thelevel of loans granted by CIT Groupover the past year indicated that thefirm was not too big to fail.

Operating in more than 50countries, CIT is a bank holdingcompany that provides financialproducts and advisory services tosmall and middle market businesses.

Two years later, Walsenburg andsurrounding Huerfano County arestill waiting, its residents caught ina collision between two of the West’svital resources: Water and naturalgas. “The water is so saturated withmethane and other chemicals it is notto be used for human consumption,”said Bernice Angely, who’s had wa-ter trucked to her home 10 mileswest of town since her well blew upin July 2007.

Petroglyph Energy Inc., a Boise,Idaho-based firm that has worked therolling plains of the Raton Basinsince 1999, suspended drilling untilit can stem the methane. LETTING children sleep late on weekends and holidays might help themavoid becoming overweight or obese, a new study suggests. Researchers inHong Kong found that children who got less sleep tended to be heavier (asmeasured by body mass index, or BMI) than children who slept more. Butamong children who slept less than eight hours a night, those who compen-sated for their weekday sleep deficit by sleeping late on weekends or holidayswere significantly less likely to be overweight or obese.

The study, which confirmed previous research linking sleep deficits toobesity in children, also found that, on average, children slept significantlylonger on weekends and holidays than on school weekdays. However, theoverweight children tended to get less weekend/holiday sleep than their nor-mal-weight peers. The researchers didn’t determine why obese and overweightchildren were less likely to sleep late on holidays or weekends, but noted thatthey tended to spend more time doing homework and watching TV than theirnormal-weight peers. Biological factors might also play a role in the com-pressed sleep cycle, they said.

“There’s a lot of evidence linking short sleep duration to higher body mass,”said Kristen Knutson, assistant professor of medicine at the University ofChicago, who was not involved in the study. “What’s unique about this studyis that it’s the first to show that extending sleep on weekends may help withavoiding weight gain.”

Still, the researchers urged caution in the interpretation of their findings, acknowledging that “an irregular sleep-wake schedule and insufficient sleepamong school-aged children and adolescents has been documented with avariety of serious repercussions, including increased daytime sleepiness, aca-demic difficulties, and mood and behavioral problems.” The precise nature ofthe link between short sleep duration and obesity remains unclear, said MaryA. Carskadon, professor of psychiatry and human behavior at BrownUniversity’s Alpert Medical School in Providence, R.I., and director ofchronobiology at Bradley Hospital in East Providence.

SYDNEY – A massive oil leak off Australia’s north-west coast poses an “immediate risk” to dozens of ma-rine species, with untold numbers possibly dying andsinking to the Timor Sea floor, a report has said.

Biologist James Watson was commissioned to carryout a government survey of the West Atlas drilling rig, where at least 400 barrels of oil have gushed daily intothe ocean since August 21. He found about 20 deadseabirds and a dead sea snake among 23 species, andsaid the oil appeared to be drawing certain species intothe toxic area, where they were at grave risk. “The pres-ence of dying birds and dead sea snakes suggest thatthere is an immediate risk to species utilising the waterthat has been affected by the oil slick,” Watson wrote inhis report, which was released late Friday.

“It is possible that species that are dying or dead andlying in oil-affected water may not stay afloat for longperiods of time, making it unlikely that we would findlarge numbers of dead animals,” he added.

There was a “significant risk” that a change in con-ditions could push the oil into deeper waters furtherwest and north, where large numbers of endangeredcetaceans lived, he added.

“Moreover, as the breeding seasons ends... more ju-venile birds will be feeding throughout the region. Assuch, we believe that over the upcoming months the oilslick — if uncontained — may have an increasing im-pact on these species,” he said. Watson said the spillappeared to have changed the feeding and breedingbehaviour of some animals, and long-term studies wereneeded to determine how severe the impact was.

WALSENBURG, Colo. – Bernice and Jerry Angely like to show visitors the singed T-shirt a friend waswearing when their water well exploded and shot flames 30 feet high. The friend wasn’t hurt. But that and anexplosion at another home weeks earlier forced Colorado to suspend natural gas drilling around this southernplains town until someone could find out why dangerous levels of methane were getting into the groundwater.

solution. Petroglyph has a plan to pre-vent the flow of methane into waterwells by creating a hydraulic barrier. The company has proposed pumpingwater from an underground formationand injecting it into a row of wellswhere gas drilling occurs. Powell saidgas will migrate into a void, and “ifthe void is full of water, there isn’troom for gas to migrate through it.”

State regulators say the plan isplausible but that Petroglyph needs toprove it works. Democratic U.S. Rep.John Salazar, who farms in the nearbySan Luis Valley, has asked the U.S.Geological Survey to weigh in byevaluating the area’s water quality andformations to determine if the gasdrilling is to blame for the problems.Water coursing through porous rockand streams has allowed farming, ranching and new subdivisions tothrive in the semiarid area about 160miles south of Denver.

It also helps trap methane gas inthe vast coal seams that once madethe area a mining hot spot. The coalmines are gone, but the methane thatmade digging for it dangerous is avaluable resource. Companies likePetroglyph pump huge volumes ofwater out of the ground to relieve thepressure trapping the natural gas.Steve Gunderson, director ofColorado’s water quality control di-vision, said Petroglyph will have tobuild a water treatment plant before

it gets a new permit to dischargewater. The old permit allowedPetroglyph to release up to 8 mil-lion gallons of water daily.

Fourth-generation dairy farmerBrett Corsentino blames the dis-charges into the Cucharas River forruining his corn crops. He usesriver water to irrigate his crops justa few miles east of the homeownershaving problems with their wells. He says the high levels of sodiumin the wastewater has diminishedhis soil’s ability to absorb waterand stunted the corn’s growth.“They say, `Well, there’s noproof,’” Corsentino said. “Well,we’d been getting along for gen-erations just fine until they startedpumping 8 million gallons out ofthis country.”

Corsentino also says his herdsuffered abnormally high birth anddeath rates and now numbers 400,down from 650. He believes thecows consumed too much sodiumfrom the water and corn grownfrom it. His corn used to produce6,000 tons of silage; this year’scrop yielded 1,500 tons. However,Corsentino says his herd ishealthier and milk production hasincreased since drilling stopped.“There’s an obvious direct, sub-stantial impact to BrettCorsentino’s dairy,” the state’sGunderson said of the drilling.

DOHA – Serena Williams heads for 2010 as worldnumber one, WTA Championships, Australian Open andWimbledon champion, but there’s a worrying storm gath-ering over women’s tennis. BERLIN - Italian striker Luca Toni looks to havebeaten Mario Gomez in their battle for a BayernMunich starting spot for Tuesday’s ChampionsLeague match against Girondins Bordeaux. Toni, who scored midweek against Eintracht Frankfurt inthe German Cup and carved out several chances inSaturday’s goalless draw with VfB Stuttgart straightafter coming on, may have done enough to confine30-million-euro striker Gomez to the bench.

Gomez, the Bundesliga’s most expensive sign-ing, was picked to start against his former clubStuttgart but coach Louis van Gaal hinted Toni, whomissed much of the early season with a heel injury, would be his choice against Bordeaux. “The reasonGomez (started) was that he is from here and heknows the grass, he knows the pitch,” Van Gaal said.“But Toni had played four matches in a row and Ihave to think about Bordeaux.”

With only four points from three matches, theBavarians have so far failed to meet expectations, lying in third place in Group A, a point behindJuventus and three off leaders Bordeaux. With in-jured playmaker Franck Ribery out for several weeks

and in-form Thomas Mueller suspended, Van Gaalwill have to rely on the speed of midfielder ArjenRobben, just back from a knee injury, to set the pacein Munich on Tuesday.

Bayern will also be missing defender Daniel vanBuyten who, like Mueller, was red-carded in their 2-1 defeat in Bordeaux last month, with Argentine Mar-tin Demichelis the most likely replacement. Ligue 1leaders Bordeaux geared up for the game with a clini-cal 1-0 win against Monaco on Saturday. He retired as a precaution after losing top spot to Sebastian Vettel in thefirst round of pitstops, with the team’s preliminary investigation suggest-ing a one-off faulty brake pad. “I had a good start, but I realised early onthat something wasn’t right with the brakes,” said Hamilton. “After threeor four laps, it became clear that there was a problem with my right-rearbrake pad, so I couldn’t open up the gap back to Sebastian and Mark[Webber].”

“When the problem got worse, the team radioed me and told me tostop at the end of the lap. Of course, it’s a shame that we couldn’t showthe performance we’d had throughout the weekend - but sometimesthat’s racing. However, I think we can be really proud of our efforts:who’d have thought we’d finish third in the Constructors’ Champion-ship at the start of this season? It’s been an incredible year, and now Ican’t wait for next season to start so I can fight for the world champi-onship again.”

Team principal Martin Whitmarsh paid tribute to Hamilton’s perfor-mance, and admitted that it could have been dangerous to allow him tocontinue to run with the faulty brake pad. “Lewis drove absolutely su-perbly all weekend – in fact he drove absolutely superbly all year,” saidWhitmarsh.

“Today, though, after just five laps, his right rear brake pad began toshow signs of an unusual level of wear – a rogue pad, we think – and as aresult we had to stop him for safety reasons. That was an enormous pity, because up to that point he’d shown blistering pace every day.” Whitmarshsaid that he was proud of his team crowning its impressive turnaroundafter starting the season well off the pace by clinching third in the Con-structors’ Championship. “The fact that we beat Ferrari to third place is ofcourse a matter of pride to us, and I want to pay tribute to all at VodafoneMcLaren Mercedes for the superhuman efforts they all made in achievingthat milestone,” said Whitmarsh.

KAMUI Kobayashi is now set torace for Toyota in Formula 1 nextyear, after team president JohnHowett said he had been impressedwith the youngster in his two out-ings for the team. Kobayashi deliv-ered his first F1 points with a strongrun to sixth place in Abu Dhabi -helped in part by a brave overtak-ing move past world championJenson Button.

And with Toyota looking for newdrivers for next year, Howett said itwas likely that Kobayashi wouldtake one of the team’s seats in 2010.“It looks like it,” explained Howett.“We will have to give really seriousconsideration, as he has reallyshown very good strong results.

“I am very impressed. We werevery happy again. What we like ishis real fighting spirit. He is not in-timidated by anybody. It’s verypositive.” Howett said thatKobayashi’s performances haderased all doubts about his poten-tial – after a difficult season he en-dured in GP2 this year.

“I think that is why there wassome hesitation. We always under-stood that he was very good in termsof racing spirit. That has been thereall through his career, but becausepartly the GP2 pace did not lookcompetitive, you were always hesi-tant against the risk. It is a lessondefinitely that sometimes we should
