LOS ANGELES — Mischa Barton has sued her mother, alleging she stole money that the former star of the television series “The O.C.” earned throughout her career and made endorse-ment deals that damaged the actress’s reputation. The lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles also accuses Nuala Barton of kicking her daughter out of a multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills home that was purchased with money earned while Mischa Barton was a child actress.

Mischa Barton was 17 when she began work-ing on “The O.C.” and already had appeared in the films “Notting Hill” and “The Sixth Sense.” Nuala Barton served as her daughter’s manager throughout her career. The lawsuit accuses Nuala Barton of bullying her daughter, and states she has been fired from her management role.

“While Barton was busy perfecting her craft and turning her acting dreams into reality, her mother, defendant Nuala Barton, was secretly scheming to ex-ploit Barton’s bourgeoning career for her benefit,” the lawsuit states.

A message left at a phone number listed for Nuala Barton was not im-mediately returned.

The lawsuit also claims the mother is withholding royalties and lied about the amount the actress was paid for a 2013 film so she could pocket the difference, in addition to her 10 percent management fee.

Mischa Barton said after her character was killed off “The O.C.” in its third season, she

wanted to focus on movie roles. She has appeared in several small films and a short-lived CW series but has garnered no high-profile roles.

She has been a fixture in the fashion world, appearing at shows for top designers in New York and Paris, and has endorsed beauty prod-ucts and collaborated on her own line of fashion accessories.

The lawsuit contends some of the endorse-ments were entered without the actress’s permis-sion, and she wasn’t properly paid for the use of her name and likeness in connection with a handbag line and a London boutique.

Barton’s mother bought a $7.8 million home in Beverly Hills in 2006 using her daughter’s earnings and gave herself an ownership interest

in the property, the lawsuit states. Mis-cha Barton is no longer allowed at the home, according to the lawsuit.

The actress encountered a rough period after her role ended on “The O.C.”

She was arrested in late 2007 on suspicion of drunken driving and

later pleaded no contest to driving under the influence and driving with-

out a valid license. She was sentenced to three years of probation and alcohol treatment and completed the case without

incident.Mischa Barton was removed from

her home by Los Angeles police in 2009 and was hospitalized for two weeks, but officers and her publicist declined to say why. (ap)

ment company has presented the award to Taylor Swift, Juanes and Willie Nelson in the past.

The BMI Pop Awards will also recognize the top song-writers and publishers of the last year. (ap)

On Monday a Jakarta court dis-missed Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran’s challenge against the rejection of their pleas for clem-ency.

Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

TABANAN - Irresponsable investors in Tabanan are appar-ently on the rise. as another slew of villas were found to be operat-ing without requisite permits. On Tuesday (Apr 7) a judiciary team in Tabanan conducted inspec-tions of 7 villas in the area of Kediri. One of them was found to be operating without a license, while the 6 others had drilled for well water without a permit. The management of these villas were immediately summoned to the Tabanan Police for question-ing. They were given two either present their documents or apply for an artesian well permit, said the Chief of Tabanan Municipal Police, Wayan Sarba.

Regional Bylaw (Perda) of Tabanan No. 4/2011 and the Regulation of Tabanan Regent No. 5/2009 on the regulation, licensing, supervision and control of the underground water and sur-face water, strictly requires “ that any drilling of an artesian well requires a permit” he said.

In similar operation carried out in Baturiti in early March, officers also found a number of

businesses that could not pres-ent their business license. Of the seven points targeted in Ba-turiti subdistrict, four businesses namely three budget hotels and one cottage as well as one villa were unable to present their busi-ness licenses.

At the time, Sarba provided those businesses with a grace pe-riod of 15 days for the owners to complete their business licenses. “If they do not comply with rules by the deadline, they will receive an official reprimand, if after three reprimands they still do not comply, they businesses will be shut down,” he explained.

The police do not hesitate to take swift action when required: “but before the sanctions are im-posed, we are obliged to provide guidance,” said Chief Sarba.

Busineses are obliged to have their licenses present on the premises so that in the case of an inspection the license can easily be presented to the offi-cer. “Just like a driving license, must always be on the person of a motorist and not left at home,” he said. (kmb28)

“We continue to take preventive measures that include counselling, and have teamed up with religious leaders and other members of the community. Apart from Abianse-mal and Petang, other areas could also be infiltrated by ISIS, so we have coordinated with the local government of Badung and mili-tary authorities” said the Chief of Badung Police, Tony Binsar, on Tuesday (Apr. 7). Deployment of Babinkamtibmas or village police personnel is also being intensified

as they help to spearhead the task of police to maintain public order and security. “We have a door-to-door programthat has personnel visiting three houses a day. Houses that have been visited are marked with a sticker” he said.

According to Police chief Bin-sar, the ISIS movement is very worrying and needs to be an-ticipated by all parties. “Internally, we’ve formed a task force for the prevention and early detection of the development of this radical-

ism” said Tony.Externally, his party provides

information about the hazards of ISIS. They is also cooperation with regional intelligence, community and religious leaders and the pub-lic and ISIS prevention banners have been hung in every mosque. “In our territory, There are five mosques in our territory and we’ve contacted all the mosque coordina-tors who have all agreed to refuse ISIS infiltration” he said.

Police close print shop for printing image of hammer and sickle

MANGUPUrA -All levels of Police in Bali are taking aggressive action to protect and inform the public about the potential threat of radicalism, especially that of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Measures are being taken by all police personnel so as to eliminate the pos-sibility of sympathizers recruiting people in Bali. The Badung Police’s have intensified their efforts because the areas of Abiansemal and Petang are apparently prone to infiltratration by ISIS advocates.

other radicalisms are also been anticipated by the police. A screen printer was recently shut down after police raided the shop and found the owner had printed t-shirts with the inappropriate image of a hammer and sickle in the area of Abiansemal, Badung.

“So far he had only prited ten T-shirts which he had given away free of charge. We suspected his motive and so we conducted an investigation” said Tony accom-panied by the Chief of Intelligence and Security Unit, Made Ardika.

Acording to the print shop owner’s confession, he had only been printing the shirts for a month and was not aware of the meaning of the image that he printed. Chief Binsar said “we have already

closed the business at for the risk of their being an anterior motive behind the t-shirts”.

To save the young generation from perils of radicalism, Tony has ordered the Chief of Traffic Affairs Unit and Public Counsel-ing to provide regular coaching to school students about the hazards of ISIS with the hopes that no one will be lured by the sweet promises of the ideology.

“Students and young people have unstable points of view so they are vulnerable to having their understanding of things manipu-lated. We hope that teachers and parents will really supervise their children and not let them choose the wrong path” said Police Chief Binar. (rah)

According to a study by Aus-tralian researchers based on more than 200,000 adults over age 45, and is published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Internal Medicine.

The study participants were fol-lowed for more than six years.

Those who did jogging, aero-bics or competitive tennis -- vig-orous exercise for 30 percent of their weekly workouts -- had a mortality rate that was nine to 13 percent lower than those who did moderate exercise, like swim-ming, social tennis, or household chores.

“The benefits of vigorous activ-ity applied to men and women of all ages, and were independent of the total amount of time spent being active,” said lead author Klaus Gebel from James Cook University’s Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention.

“The results indicate that whether or not you are obese, and whether or not you have heart disease or diabetes, if you can manage some vigorous activity it

could offer significant benefits for longevity.”

Currently, the World Health Organization urges adults to do at least 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week.

But the current research sug-gests that given the choice, people should opt for some higher in-tensity exercise if they can, and if their doctor agrees, the study authors said.

“Our research indicates that even small amounts of vigorous activity could help reduce your risk of early death,” Gebel said.

“For those with medical condi-tions, for older people in general, and for those who have never done any vigorous activity or exercise before, it’s always important to talk to a doctor first.”

A separate study published Monday in the journal Circula-tion, a publication of the Ameri-can Heart Association, found that sudden cardiac death during sports activities is rare among middle aged people who are

physically fit.Researchers reviewed more

than 1,200 cases of sudden car-diac arrest -- when the heart stops beating due to an electrical distur-bance in the organ that stops vital blood flow -- in men and women aged 35 to 65.

Only five percent of the cases involved occurred during exer-cise such as running, basketball or biking.

In two-thirds of the cases, patients had a previously docu-mented cardiovascular disease or symptoms before the sudden cardiac arrest.

“Our study findings reinforce the idea of the high-benefit, low-risk nature of exercise in middle age and emphasize the importance of education to maximize safety, particularly as the population ages and more baby boomers increas-ingly take part in sports activities to prolong their lives,” said senior author Sumeet Chugh, associate director for genomic cardiology at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles, California. MIAMI - One in 10 samples of breast milk sold on the Internet in the United States was found to be contaminated with cow’s milk or formula, US researchers said Monday.

The study in the journal Pediatrics raised new safety concerns about a practice that many experts already discourage over the potential for danger to babies’ health.

Researchers tested 102 samples of breast milk advertised on milk-sharing websites, frequented by mothers who want to buy breast milk for their infants.

They found that 11 of the samples contained bovine DNA, and 10 of those had enough that it could not be considered an accidental contamina-tion, suggesting that some sellers were adding cow’s milk in order to boost their volume and profits.

“We found that one in every 10 samples of breast milk purchased over the Internet had significant amounts of cow’s milk added, and this poses a risk to infants with an allergy or intolerance to cow’s milk,” said study author Sarah Keim, of the Center for Biobehavioral Health in The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Ohio.

“If a baby with cow’s milk allergy

were to drink this milk, it could be very harmful.”

The same researchers have previ-ously found that 21 percent of people who look for human breast milk online do so because their child has a medical condition, and 16 percent said they did so because their infant could not drink formula.

They also found in previous research that more than 75 percent of milk samples purchased online contained bacterial or viral con-tamination.

The US Food and Drug Admin-istration warned in 2010 that unpas-teurized human milk obtained from sources other than the baby’s mother could pose health risks.

“We were concerned that, because money is exchanged in these transac-tions, there might be an incentive to boost milk volumes in order to make more money,” said Keim.

“Mothers who consider purchas-ing breast milk over the Internet should beware -- when you obtain milk from an unfamiliar source, you cannot know for sure that what you are getting is safe for your baby.”

Other researchers on the team came from Ohio State University and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. (afp)

WASHINGTON - Experimental tailor-made vaccines targeting mela-noma patients’ individual genetic mu-tations have given encouraging pre-liminary results, researchers have said. The clinical test on three patients with this form of aggressive skin cancer in an advanced stage is unprecedented in the United States.

The vaccines appear to boost the number and diversity of T-cells, which are key to the human immune system and attack tumors, researchers said in a report published Thursday in the journal Science.

Melanoma accounts for around five percent of all new cancer cases diagnosed in the United States, but that proportion is rising.

Last year 76,000 Americans were diagnosed with melanoma and nearly 10,000 died of it, according to the National Cancer Institute.

The vaccines were developed by sequencing the genomes of the three patients’ tumors and comparing them to samples of healthy tissue to identify proteins that had mutated. These are known as neoantigens, and are unique to cancer cells.

The researchers then used com-puter programs and laboratory trials to predict and test the neoantigens most likely to trigger a strong im-mune response and thus be added to

the vaccine. The vaccine was administered to

patients whose tumors had been re-moved but without preventing cancer cells from spreading to the lymph nodes, which is an indication that the melanoma is going to reappear.

The initial clinical results have been good enough to start a phase 1 clinical trial approved by the US Food and Drug Administration on six patients.

If this broader test proves the vac-cines work, it would pave the way for immunotherapy that prevents mela-noma from resurfacing in patients. The study was led by Gerald Linette, an oncologist at the University of Wash-ington in St. Louis, Missouri.

Although the test was preliminary, it was based on the breadth and di-versity of the T-cells, meaning these vaccines are promising as a therapy, he said. But the researchers cautioned that it was too early to say if these vaccines would continue to work long-term.

None of the three patients tested so far have suffered major negative side effects.

Immunotherapy, already used with success against melanoma, is a promising new strategy against very aggressive cancer cells for which there is currently no effective treat-ment. (afp)

Jokowi was invited to the con-gress not only because he is the president of the Republic of In-donesia, but also because he is a member of the party, he pointed out.

As one of the party’s best cad-res, Jokowi is an integral part of the national congress, Basarah remarked.

“There is no problem over coor-dinating with the central executive board of the PDIP with regard to Jokowi’s presence at the congress. God willing, he will attend the opening ceremony of the party’s fourth congress,” he stated.

Basarah further noted that the

presence of President Jokowi and his aides at the congress will serve as a means to share knowledge about the government’s national development. The knowledge will serve as reference for the party to frame policies, he added.

“Jokowi will assign his minis-ters to attend discussions during the PDIP congress as informants,” he affirmed.

Earlier, chairman of the local organizing committee of the PDIP congress, Wayan Koster, had said that he had yet to receive confirma-tion from Jokowi on whether he will attend the opening ceremony of the congress. (ant)

For instance, the conservation must be given to a specific place where fish lays eggs, coral reef habitat or areas that can be used for cultivation.

“On the other hand, we have not anticipated this sea because the technology already allows, now people are still building ho-tel on land. Later, what happens if people want to build hotel in the sea? It has not been set forth, where they are allowed and where they are not. Why they should, why they should not. Later, it will evolve toward such condition, so that it should be governed,” he said.

According to him, the security

for marine is required so that the conservation of marine resources can be used continuously. In other words, every year the fish remains available and coral reef remains available. As a result, fishermen can still survive. In terms of marine environment, the coastal areas also remain safe from abrasion.

“If the coral reef is safe, it means that the abrasion is under control. However, if we dam-age it we do not only harm the fisheries but also the beaches. If the beaches are needed for tourism area, the tourism will also be destroyed. So, when we make marine zoning, it has wide implications such as in economic aspect, sustainability and others,” he said.

On the other hand, the increase in water conservation is also im-portant to increase the carrying capacity of the coastal and marine areas. (kmb32)

“Anyone who runs for president should talk about big economic ideas that will help rebuild the middle class in this country and improve the lives of working-class families,” Warren said in a state-ment provided to The Associated Press. “These issues matter power-fully in determining what kind of a country we are and what kind of future we’re building, and I applaud those who are working hard to make big ideas central to the conversation in 2016.”

Warren’s comments come a day af ter the Progress ive Change Campaign Committee announced that 5,000 Demo-cratic leaders had signed on to its

“Ready for Boldness” campaign. The effort urges Clinton, who is on the brink of announcing her campaign, and other po-tential Democratic presidential candidates to run on “big, bold, economic-populist ideas.”

The policies the group is pushing include Wall Street and campaign finance reforms, increasing gov-ernment aid to public universities, and expanding Social Security benefits — all ideas championed by Warren.

The Massachusetts senator has repeatedly shot down speculation that she will challenge Clinton in the Democratic primary. The boldness campaign is essentially

an acknowledgment of that reality, as the progressive group focuses instead of getting Clinton to cam-paign on Warren’s platform. Among the leaders who signed the boldness pledge this week was Senate Minor-ity Leader Harry Reid.

The progressive group is also seeking to make the issues pledge a factor in potentially competitive Democratic Senate primaries. Rep. Donna Edwards of Maryland, who is running for the Senate in 2016, signed the pledge while rival Rep. Chris Van Hollen did not. Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida, who liberals hope runs for the Senate, signed the pledge, while Rep. Patrick Murphy did not. (ap)

PARIS — French air traffic con-trollers went on strike Wednesday, prompting the cancellation of 40 percent of flights across the country. The powerful SNCTA union called the two-day strike in a quarrel over working and retirement conditions, saying in a statement that “disrup-tion is expected over the whole country.”

France’s civil aviation agency has called for the cancellation of 50 percent of flights Thursday. It said part of the dispute involves conditions for raising the retire-ment age for controllers from 67

to 69 years.France’s main airline, Air France,

said long-haul flights would not be affected, and guaranteed some 60 percent of medium-haul flights from and to Paris’ main airport, Charles de Gaulle. Air France said it would ground two out of three flights at Paris’ second-largest airport, Orly.

Passengers are advised to contact their airline for more information. Further strikes are planned April 16-18 and April 29-May 2, coincid-ing with spring school holidays in France. (ap)

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan has asked Iran to share information on the killing of eight Iranian border guards by militants so it can ensure they do not flee across the porous border.

Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency reported that gunmen killed the guards in Iran’s volatile south-east Sistan-Baluchistan province on Monday. It said the Jeish al-Adl group, which is believed to be in-spired by al-Qaida, claimed respon-

sibility and had targeted the guards after crossing in from Pakistan.

On Wednesday Pakistan’s For-eign Ministry said authorities were investigating the incident and re-quested Tehran share its findings.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mo-hammad Javad Zarif is expected in Islamabad on Wednesday to discuss the conflict in Yemen, where a Saudi-led air campaign supported by Pakistan is battling Iranian-supported Shiite rebels. (ap)

Acting headman of Getakan Banjarangkan, Wayan Sukadana, when contacted on Tuesday (Apr. 7) said that seven victims were bitten by stray dogs. Their were dog bite incidents in Gunung Rata, Getakan, Beneng and An-jingan, but most of the casualties were from Getakan hamlet. Ini-tially, he doubted that the bitting dog was carrying the rabies virus. However, lab results from the public health clinic and the Ban-jarangkan animal clinic proved him wrong. On Sunday (Apr. 4), once Sukadana realized his er-ror, he along with the help of the Livestock and Fisheries Agency immediately eliminated 30 stray dogs as a way to help reduce the number of people being bitten by rabbies carrying dogs.

Everyone who had been bitten was given an anti-rabbies vac-

cine either from the public health centre or the animal clinic and are in the process of recovering. According to Sukadana, there have been no human deaths as a result of the dog bites. So far no humans seem to have contracted rabbies.

Subdistrict head of Banja-rangkan, Putu Gde Wisnuadi said that several similar cases also occurred at other villages in Banjarangkan including Tusan, Aan, Tohpati and other villages. Coordination of the elimina-tion effort has been carried out by the public health center and subdistrict animal clinic and they are also working with the Health Agency. “We’ve sent a letter to every headman warning them of the threat so that they can take action and be prepared” said Wisnuadi. Headmen whose

hamlets are in the area of last weeks outbreak, like Aan, Bakas and Tihingan have been asked to make contact with the Health Agency to learn how to prevent the disease from spreading.

Wisnuadi added that the num-ber of dog bite cases requiring anti-rabies vaccines (VAR) from the Banjarangkan Public Health Center I during the period of April 1-7, amounted to 35 pa-tients, while at Banjarangkan Public Health Center II, there were 14 patients who need the vaccine. The stock of VAR at the health centres is apparently still sufficient.

Wisnuadi hopes that residents of Banjarangkan subdistrict will remain vigilant and sure that their dogs receive regular vaccine so as to prevent any more rabbies cases. (kmb31)

SINGARAJA - The bridge as the main access to Celuk Buluh Beach, Kalibukbuk village, Bule-leng subdistrict is damaged at both sides. Condition of the bridge sizing 5 x 3 is almost broken. A number of residents who happen to be passing on a motorcycle are forced to ride slowly considering the bridge has severe fractures due to be eroded by watershed after the heavy rain for several days.

As a central access to main road, the bridge is mostly utilized by residents having the profession as fishermen to reach the Celuk Buluh Beach. Local residents often carry a number of fish catches to be sold in the market or restaurants and hotels in the tourist area of ??Lovina. The

damaged bridge access was caused by heavy rain and the severe scour-ing water of the river that even caused some chunks of trees to be dragged.

Residents are seen working in mutual assistance to clean up along the river and expected the related agencies to make immediate repair. “We immediately contact the Head of the Buleleng Disaster Mitiga-tion Agency (BPBD). We see the condition of damage due to disas-ter in the field. We will inventory the damage and condition of the damage in order to get handling and repair in the budget amend-ment. In the future, let’s arrange the Lovina area together. At the same time, it becomes homework

for the government of Buleleng,” said Chairman of the Commission II in charge of Economic Affairs and Development in the Buleleng House, Putu Mangku Budiasa, Tuesday (Apr. 7) in the inspection to see the breakdown of the bridge on the road leading to Celuk Buluh Beach.

A member of Commission IV in charge of Public Welfare, Ni Kadek Turkini, explained that the repair to the damaged infrastructure like the bridge shall take precedence con-sidering the bridge has central func-tion for the access of local economy as the people live as fishermen. “The infrastructure should be given priority, especially the bud-get is now focused on improving

the infrastructure, including road drainage, river bank and bridges in response to flooding. As a result of the monitoring, we will make coordination with the government of Buleleng,” he explained.

Lately the rain for several hours in Buleleng easily caused the rivers to overflow and resulted in broken bridge as scouring water of the river. At the end, it led to flooding in urban areas. Executive Head of the BPBD Buleleng, I Ketut Yasa, mentioned that the depth of river condition in Buleleng requires re-consideration. Some old trees that possibly fall into the river area will be given serious attention.

“Findings in the field indicate that some parts of the bridge wings

are damaged. Our team will identify and coordinate together with related agencies and will propose the as-sistance in budget amendment. This is a post-disaster management, but it is impossible for the emergency case,” said Yasa.

I Gede Geni, a local resident, said that the bridge broke down as it has been almost nine years old. It connects the access to Celuk Buluh Beach, subak and cemetery. The existence of the bridge is very important to help the local economy. “A lot of people pass by and it is the main access for the public. We do hope that we can sell fish again as usual and the bridge can be quickly repaired,” he said. (kmb34)

SINGARAJA - Hotels and restaurants in the area of Lovina receive their fresh fish and seafood from a number of fishermen who cross Celuk Buluh bridge to get to the sea. This small but important bridge, located in Kalibukbuk vil-lage, Buleleng has become severely damaged on both ends, from broken branches and general debri in the river that flooded over after the heavy rains over the last few days.

The flood that caused damage to the bridge also affected urban areas and Executive Head of the BPBD

Buleleng, I Ketut Yasa, said that the river flow in fact needs serious attention.

“Findings in the field indicate that the bridge in fact needs repair, so we will be working with relevant agencies and propose an amend-ment to the budget to allow for these repairs. Although this does qualify as post-natural disaster damage it does not qualify as en emergency” said Yasa.

I Gede Geni, a local resident, said that the bridge which serves an important role in the local economy

broke down because it was old - almost nine years old. “A lot of people use the bridge, particularly fishermen who hope that it will be repaired soon so they can get back to work” he said.

Residents have taken it upon themselves to make repairs as best they can while they wait for government assistance. “We im-mediately contacted the Head of the Buleleng Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) when we saw the damage that occurred from the flood. We will take inventory of the

damage and describe the details of the damage in order to have the budget amended to include repairs and handing of such things. It is in fact part of the government of Buleleng’s homework, but in the future, let’s work together to make Lovina better,” said Putu Mangku Budiasa, Chairman of the Com-mission II in charge of Economic Affairs and Development in the Buleleng House, on Tuesday (Apr. 7) during an inspection to the site of the bridge to Celuk Buluh Beach.

Member of Commission IV in

charge of Public Welfare, Ni Kadek Turkini, explained that repairs to damaged infrastructure like the bridge will take precedence given that they function as an important part of the local economy by al-lowing fishermen to access the ocean for example. “Infrastructure including road drainage, river banks and bridges in response to flooding should be given budgetary priority. Now that we have seen the situa-tion, we will be coordinating with the government of Buleleng” he explained. (kmb34)

A higher proportion of aged citi-zens means a smaller workforce and lower potential output, which in turn could spell lower living standards in the future, the IMF said in a new study.

The phenomenon of lower poten-tial growth in economies is increas-ingly evident in some advanced economies, but also faces emerging markets like China where the aver-age population age is also rising.

The new study, part of the IMF’s

semi-annual World Economic Out-look, seeks in part to explain why advanced economies have remained so turgid in the wake of the financial crisis which began in 2008.

Of the key inputs to growth, the supply of capital for investment has expanded, though more slowly than expected.

But labor pools have grown even more slowly, as measured by the level of participation by a population in the active workforce.

A key part of the reason for that is that more people have retired or will retire compared to the level of entrants into the jobs market.

The result is a drag on the poten-tial increase in output, or economic growth, the study says.

For advanced economies, poten-tial economic growth, which was around 2 percent before the crisis, fell to 1.3 percent in the crisis years but will be only about 1.6 percent through the rest of this decade, the

IMF said.In emerging economies, potential

growth will slip from 6.5 percent in 2008-2014 to 5.2 percent through 2020.

This shift raises new challenges for governments. “In advanced economies, lower potential growth will make it more difficult to reduce high public and private debt ratios,” the IMF said.

“In emerging market economies, lower potential growth will make it more challenging to rebuild fiscal buffers.”

Countries can counter this drag with increasingly focused capital

investment, the study noted.“Increasing potential output is a

policy priority for advanced and emerg-ing market economies,” it said.

The prescriptions differ across economies, but focus mostly on the need to expand investment.

But also, it said, “structural reforms and greater support for re-search and development are key to increasing supply and innovation.

“In emerging market economies, higher infrastructure spending is needed to remove critical bottlenecks, and structural reforms must be direct-ed at improving business conditions and product markets.” (afp)

DENPASAR — Lawyers repre-senting an American couple on trial in Indonesia argued Tuesday that there is no evidence of premeditated murder in her mother’s death and sought light sentences if they are convicted.

Prosecutors want jail sentences of 18 years for Tommy Schaefer and 15 years for Heather Mack if they are found guilty of murdering Sheila von Wiese-Mack, 62, whose badly beaten body was found in a suitcase in the trunk of a taxi out-side an upscale hotel in August.

Schaefer, 21, and Mack, 19, both from Chicago, are being tried separately with the same judges and prosecutors at the Denpasar District Court. They are charged with premeditated murder, which carries a maximum death penalty, and the judges could ignore the sentencing requests.

Ary Soenardi, a lawyer for Mack, said his client has apologized and still regrets what happened.

“The defendant still regrets and feels sad over the death of her late mother,” Soenardi said. “As the only child, the defendant has lost the love of a mother.”

He doubted how the prosecutors concluded that Mack committed a premeditated murder, since none of 22 witnesses heard in the trial knew exactly what was really done by the defendant.

Therefore, he hoped that the judge would “take into account the social and psychological conditions of the defendant in deciding the verdict and hand down as light as possible sentence.”

Prosecutors have accused her of committing sadistic acts to her own mother, but decided to be lenient

because she repeatedly expressed remorse and has a newborn baby. However, they did not explain why they sought less than the maximum penalty for Schaefer.

In Schaefer ’s trial, lawyer Iswahyudi Edy said the 18-year year term is too heavy as the prosecutors could not prove pre-meditation.

“The crime done by the defen-dant was actually preceded by a series of incidents including a quar-rel between Mack and her mother, who threatened to kill the unborn baby,” Edy said. “Mack called the defendant through a short message ... and the defendant just came to protect Mack without intention to kill the victim.”

He cited confessions from both Schaefer and Mack in which they said the attitude of von Wiese-Mack could have been to blame, since she could not accept her daughter’s pregnancy.

Prosecutors have asked the judges to declare the defendants guilty of premeditated murder with the fact that Schaefer delib-erately brought a metal fruit bowl when he came to the room at the St. Regis where Mack and her mother were staying. The bowl was the weapon used to strike her. They said Mack helped stuff her mother’s body in the suitcase by sitting on it to enable Schaefer to close it.

Both Soenardi and Edy argued that the defendants deserve light sentences since they are still young and regret their deeds.

Presiding judge Made Suweda adjourned the hearing until Thurs-day to give prosecutors the chance to defend their charges. (ap)

Demand for tamarillos is a little, although the selling price of the fruit is actually not too disap-pointing.

One of the farmers at Manikliyu village, Ketut Sandia, said that farmers in Kintamani so far only grow tamarillos as intercropping of tangerine posing the main cultiva-tion. Tamarillos are not planted and treated specifically. Reluctance of farmers to pursue the cultivation of tamarillos seriously is caused by its high fluctuation in the sell-ing price.

“Actually I also have a desire to grow this plant specifically. But, due to high fluctuation of price during harvest season, I am afraid of growing it,” he explained.

Admittedly, the price of tama-rillos is actually quite promising. This purplish fruit can be sold for IDR 6,000 per kg. However, al-though the price is quite promising, only a few farmers in Kintamani want to cultivate them due to the fluctuating price.

Other than due to high price fluctuation, the reluctance of

farmers to grow the tamarillos oc-curs because farmers tend to fear as the cultivation of tamarillos will be difficult to be marketed. “Indeed, sometimes the price can reach IDR 6,000 per kg and is picked by buyers or collectors. Sometimes, no buyers come at all. Well, this is reason why I am reluctant to plant it,” said Sandia. Although in Kintamani region sits many restaurants and other tour-ism services, they do not affect the increase in demand for the tamarillos. (kmb40)

WASHINGTON - The United States expanded its lead as the world’s largest producer of oil and natural gas last year as output from fracking fields surged, the US Department of Energy reported Tuesday.

While hydrocarbon production in Russia and Saudi Arabia re-mained relatively flat, US output, by the British thermal unit (Btu) measure of energy content, gained about 10 percent to nearly 55 qua-drillion Btu last year.

That increase represented a 1.6 million barrel a day rise in crude production and a 13.9 billion cubic feet a day rise in natural gas produc-tion. US output now stands at about double that of Saudi Arabia.

US production is evenly split between crude oil and natural gas, according to the EIA. In Russia output is also balanced between oil and gas, while Saudi Arabia mainly produces crude oil.

The US production gains came despite a 50 percent fall in oil prices during the second half of the year, the EIA noted. (afp)

TOKYO - The dollar eased slightly Wednesday as the Bank of Japan announced it will hold off further easing measures after a two-day policy meeting.

The US unit stood at 120.06 yen shortly after the decision was announced in early afternoon trade, compared with 120.32 in New York.

The euro was at $1.0835 and 130.12 yen, edging up from

$1.0813 and 130.11 yen in New York.

While the market was little bothered by the central bank an-nouncement, economists said Governor Haruhiko Kuroda will have to expand his easing measures sooner or later if he is to move Ja-pan closer to his target of achieving stable 2.0 percent inflation.

“If Governor Kuroda is about to embark on an upshift in easing,

it would more likely be the 30th of April, when they have an up-dated set of forecasts to be able to work from,” said Raiko Shareef, a markets strategist in Wellington at Bank of New Zealand.

“There’s been some pretty ap-preciable slowing in the Japanese economy, especially inflation num-bers,” he told Bloomberg News.

Kuroda was scheduled to ad-dress the media from 0630 GMT.

Economists and businesses have began to voice their increas-ing worries about the Japanese economy as the impact of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s stimulus packages fades and factory output slows.

Thus, with the country’s current capac-ity of 54 thousand megawatts, the comple-tion of the development of power plants, with a targeted capacity of 35 thousand megawatts, will bring the country’s total electricity generation capacity to 89 thou-sand megawatts by the end of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) government’s term in 2019.

President Jokowi has therefore re-minded the state-owned electricity firm PLN about the target to build power plants. He called for the accelerated con-struction of power plants in a bid to meet the electricity needs of the people and domestic industries.

“The target given to PLN was not small. Therefore, it should work (towards the end) as fast as possible,” President Jokowi remarked during his visit to the PLN headquarters in South Jakarta on Tuesday.

The president pointed out that Indo-

nesia’s electricity requirement is huge, primarily to help the industries that need a considerable amount of power.

According to Vice President Jusuf Kalla, the government does not have sufficient funds to develop the country’s power plant projects. Therefore, the private sector is expected to take part in the projects.

The government can only develop some 30 to 40 percent of the projects and the remaining are expected to be built by private companies, which will act as independent power producers (IPP).

This year, the government has set a target to develop 11 thousand megawatts, and in 2016, it expects to have completed the second phase of generating 10 thou-sand megawatts.

With regard to reaching the target of 11 thousand megawatts in 2015, President Jokowi expressed confidence that it could be achieved. He also admitted that he was

aware of the on-field constraints but was certain that they could be overcome.

The target of 10 thousand megawatts was set for 2016 as part of the efforts to achieve the target of 35 thousand mega-watts during the next five years.

“If the targets of 11 thousand mega-watts and 10 thousand megawatts for this year and the next, respectively, are achieved, then it can be said that the target of 35 thousand megawatts is already in sight,” the president remarked.

Jokowi further noted that the efforts to achieve the target of generating 35 thousand megawatts was set to meet the needs of a large number of industries, such as hotel industries that depend on power supply to support the development of the tourism sector.

As several regions in the country still face power shortages, the head of state af-firmed that the government will continue to work hard to achieve the target. (ant)

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Police will deploy 4,236 personnel to secure the upcoming Asia-Africa Confer-ence’s 60th anniversary to be held in Jakarta and Bandung (West Java Province), April 19-24, 2015.

“The 4,236 personnel comprise those from the Jakarta Police, police resorts, and the Police Mobile Bri-gade,” Chief of the Jakarta Police Inspector General Unggung Cahyono said on Wednesday.

The officers have joined a number of trainings and exercises such as a tactical floor game (TFG), organized as part of preparations for the security arrangement during the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) 2015.

They will particular guards the Soekarno-Hatta International Airports, the Halim Perdanakusuma air force base, certain fly-overs, main avenues, and certain hotels.

“We will also guard 18 hotels and 13 multi-storey buildings with the coordination of the Jakarta Police and Military Command,” he said.

From April 1 to 21, 2015, the Jakarta Police is conducting Opera-tion Sympathy to improve the public awareness of traffic regulations.

So far, more than 30 heads of state and government have confirmed their participation in the Asia-Africa Summit 2015 to mark the 60th com-memoration of the AAC and the 10th anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership.

The AAC was first organized in Bandung in April 1955, at the initiative of Indonesia, Myanmar (Burma), Cey-lon (Sri Lanka), India, and Pakistan.

It was viewed as a symbol of free-dom from colonialism, besides being a symbol of the resurgence of Asian and African nations. Some 29 coun-tries representing more than half of the world’s population had sent their delegates to the conference.

Some 109 Asian and African coun-tries along with 17 observer countries and 25 international organizations have been invited to join the event. (ant)

JAKARTA - The Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) believes that a decision regarding the Golkar Party made by Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly was based on inaccurate and incomplete information.

“Therefore, the DPR’s Commission III asks the justice and human rights minister to abide by the ruling of the Jakarta State Adminis-trative Court (PTUN),” Deputy Chairman of the Commission III Benny K. Harman stated during a hearing with Minister Laoly on Tuesday evening.

In the hearing’s conclusion, the Commission III also urged Min-ister Laoly to not take any action regarding Golkar, pending a final ruling by the PTUN.

During the hearing, the Commission also requested the minister to address the security issue of the Nusakambang prison and to present an academic note and a draft of the Book of Criminal Laws (KUHP).

Minister Laoly recently announced the government’s recognition of Golkar Party under the leadership of Agung Laksono, a rival of incumbent Aburizal Bakrie.

The critics stated that Yasonna Laoly, from President Joko Wido-do’s Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), has vested in-terests in backing Agung Laksono who has made it clear that he wants to take Golkar out of the opposition Red-White Coalition (KMP) and into the pro-government Great Indonesia Coalition (KIH).

The Jakarta PTUN recently issued the suspension as part of its ongoing hearing of a lawsuit filed by Aburizal Bakrie’s camp against Minister Laoly’s decision to recognize the rival camp led by Agung.

The court “grants a motion to suspend the implementation of all objects in contention as demanded by the plaintiff,” Judge Teguh Satya Bhakti, who presided over the case, stated in his preliminary ruling.

The court also ordered “the suspension of the implementation of the Justice Ministry’s letter” recognizing Agung’s claim to the chairmanship, “until [the court] makes its final ruling”, the Jakarta Globe reported recently. (ant)

Greece, dependent on international bailouts worth 240 billion euros ($260 billion) since 2010, will run out of funds within weeks unless it reaches a deal with its creditors for a new installment.

Tsipras’ visit has been regarded as either an attempt to use his rela-tionship with Russia as a potential bargaining chip or simply an effort to enhance ties with a traditional ally.

In retaliation against Western sanctions, Russia last year banned selected food imports including vegetables and cheese from the Eu-ropean Union, which has hit Greek imports particular hard. Putin told

a beaming Tsipras at the start of their talks that his visit is “very timely” and it gives them a chance “to analyze what we could both do” to restore bilateral trade between Russia and Greece, which dropped 40 percent on the ban.

Greek exports to Russia were 357 million euros last year, down 12 percent from a year earlier. Putin also dwelled on the significance of Tsipras’ visit ahead of the Ortho-dox Easter, saying that, above all, Russia and Greece have “common spiritual roots” as predominantly Orthodox Christian nations.

Putin’s words did not catch Kremlin officials off guard. Eco-nomic Development Minister Alex-ei Ulyukayev told Russian news agencies that the government had

drafted proposals “related to the embargo” that will be discussed at his meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday. A deal could poten-tially restore millions in profits that Greek farmers used to make on the Russian markets.

Tsipras’ government, a coalition of the radical left and nationalist right, was elected in January on promises to repeal the austerity measures imposed as a condition of the bailout.

Tsipras, who will be meeting a flurry of top Russian officials on Wednesday and Thursday, has been cultivating the impression that Athens might see Moscow as a potential means of pressure in its current negotiations. (ap)

BERLIN — Swiss authorities say they have seized more than 4.4 metric tons (4.9 tons) of the banned stimulant khat at Zurich airport — the biggest drugs haul recorded there.

Customs officials say the khat was hidden inside 495 postal packages — declared as tea, henna or spices — sent over a two-week period and destined for North America, Europe or Asia.

Airport customs chief Heinz Wid-

mer said Wednesday the shipments appeared to be the work of a single group as all had come on the same route from Nairobi. They were posted in Kenya or Tanzania.

Khat is popular in parts of East Africa and the Middle East, where it is chewed, smoked or brewed as tea.

It is banned in many countries be-cause it has been linked to psychotic episodes. (ap)

NEW YORK — The NYPD says an NBA player, his wife and another woman were stabbed and injured out-side a Manhattan nightclub. Police say they sustained minor injuries and were hospitalized. Their names weren’t im-mediately released.

It happened just before 4 a.m. Wednesday outside the 1Oak Club on West 17th Street.

The stabber was taken into custody. Two other people were arrested on

charges of obstructing governmental administration.

Police say the NBA player was stabbed in the abdomen. His wife was stabbed in the arm and slashed across the breast and buttocks.

Police say the two were arguing outside the club when a group — in-cluding the other injured woman — interfered. They say a verbal dispute ensued with one man pulling out a knife. The knife was recovered. (ap)

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi Arabia’s state news agency says a drive-by shooting near the king-dom’s capital, Riyadh, killed two policemen.

The Saudi Press Agency says gunmen opened fire from a car at a police patrol east of Riyadh in the early hours on Wednesday. The shooting resulted in the deaths of the two officers.

SPA says an investigation is un-derway. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Such attacks are rare in Saudi Arabia though from 2003 to 2007, al-Qaida linked militants carried out attacks in the kingdom, aimed at de-stabilizing the Western-allied mon-archy, including deadly bombings of residential compounds housing foreigners in Riyadh in 2003. (ap)

BANGKOK — More than 100 people, including many foreign tourists, were rescued Wednesday from a tour boat that caught fire in the Andaman Sea off Thailand’s southwestern coast. Police Col. Sompong Thip-apakul said the accident occurred on the Ao Nang Princess 5 ferry traveling from Krabi to Phuket, two of Thailand’s most popular beach resort areas.

He said a 12-year-old Western child was missing but was thought to have been picked up by another boat that was going to Phuket.

Most of the rescued passengers and crew, totaling about 110, were taken to Krabi, several miles (kilometers) from

where the fire occurred.Photos taken by rescuers, including

the Krabi Marine Police, showed the abandoned vessel burning down al-most to the waterline before sinking.

Sompong said police were inves-tigating the cause of the blaze, but the task would be difficult because the vessel had sunk.

Thailand’s tourist industry, which welcomes more than 20 million people a year, has suffered a black eye in recent years due to domestic politi-cal violence and several high-profile killings and unexplained accidental deaths of Westerners, but serious ma-rine accidents are uncommon. (ap)

AMLAPURA - Padangbai is developed into a nature and cul-tural tourism in a tourism resort development of Candidasa, Padan-gbai Village, Manggis Subdistrict, Karangasem. It is about 25 km from the town of Amlapura, 13 km from Candidasa and about 31 km east of Denpasar. At this location sits a harbor becoming the access of transportation to Lombok Island,

NTB. The name of Padangbai got influence from the Dutch as a result of colonial period. It was formerly known as Teluk Padang or the Pa-dang Bay.

It is a white sandy bay whose location is tranquilly surrounded by black rock. Due to its strategic location, the life of undersea nature is well maintained. Padangbai at-traction has pure white and thick

sandy beach that is good for sun-bathing or swimming. Besides, its natural undersea beauty is very appropriate for diving and snorkeling because it is rich in various kinds of coral reefs and amazing ornamental fish. Another attraction that can be found here is an exotic blue lagoon becoming a favorite destination for divers. Meanwhile, Padangbai also has a

cultural attraction in the form of Dang Kahyangan Temple (univer-sal temple) complex.

In the east of Padangbai Beach lies the Silayukti Temple founded by Mpu Kuturan in the eleventh century during his pilgrimage to Bali. Mpu Kuturan was a priest having a great merit in setting up the Hinduism in Bali where his teach-ings remained to be adhered to and

implemented by the Hindus in Bali today. In the south of the temple lies the Tanjung Sari Temple built by Mpu Bharadah, the youngest brother of Mpu Kuturan. Then, in the west of Padangbai sits the Pe-nataran Agung Temple founded in the sixteenth century by Danghyang Dwijendra also known as Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rawuh, a descendant of the Mpu Kuturan.

In other key results, Atlanta crushed Phoenix to notch a fran-chise-record 58th win of the season, and San Antonio rolled past Okla-homa City for its eighth-straight win while hurting the Thunder’s playoff hopes.

New Orleans’ Quincy Pondexter had 20 points, including his fourth 3-pointer of the game to tie it 95-95, for the Pelicans, who moved half a game ahead of the Thunder for the last playoff berth and have a game in hand.

Golden State’s Stephen Cur-ry scored 25 points, hitting five 3-pointers, but his final attempt that would have tied the game rimmed

out. The Warriors have already secured the No.1 seed for the West playoffs. Atlanta has done the same in the East and showed how by rout-ing Phoenix 96-69.

DeMarre Carroll, Jeff Teague and Mike Muscala — starting for injured All-Star forward Paul Millsap — all finished with 16 points for the Hawks, who moved above the previous franchise re-cord of 57 games, set in 1986-87 and equaled in 1993-94. The Suns missed 31 of 40 shots from the field in the second half to score a season low.

Phoenix’s Gerald Green, with 15 points, was the only player to score

in double figures for the Suns, who missed 31 of 40 shots from the field in the second half to set a new sea-son low score. San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard matched a career high with 26 points as the Spurs rolled past Oklahoma City 113-88.

The defending NBA champions have won each game during their eight-game winning streak by dou-ble digits, and by an average of 20.9 points. Tim Duncan had 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocks for the Spurs, who still have a shot at the No. 2 seed in the West. Russell Westbrook scored 17 points for the Thunder, who lost their fourth straight. (ap)

Yamaha MotoGP rider Valentino Rossi of Italy celebrates on the podium after winning the Qatar MotoGP Grand Prix at the Losail International circuit in Doha March 29, 2015.

VALentino Rossi be-lieves he will be able to stay competitive in MotoGP until he is 40 years old if he can maintain his current level. The 36-year-old considered retirement last year after a run of disappointing sea-sons, but he ended up mounting a career resurgence. Rossi finished second to Marc Marquez in the 2014 championship and won this year’s season-opening Qatar Grand Prix last month.

He believes he is showing that mentality and approach is far more significant than physical age. “I feel good. I have good motivation. I like my job because it’s also my passion, like all the guys here,” Rossi said. “For me if you have a good life and do good training you can ride at the top until you are 40 or so. It’s not like athletics.

“What makes the difference is more the motivation and the

concentration. I think mostly it’s the motivation.” Rossi said the closeness of the racing in the current era was also helping to re-inspire him in his 16th season in MotoGP. “I’m very happy be-cause in the last years the races have changed,” said the seven-time champion.

“There was a time with [Casey] Stoner and [Jorge] Lorenzo when the races were finished after three laps. It was difficult and boring.

“Now it looks like for some rea-son it’s changed with Marc and there’s more battling and strategy to the end.”

The Italian added that he ex-pects a three-team championship fight in 2015 with the improving Ducatis - which filled the rest of the Qatar podium with Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone - evenly-matched with his Ya-maha team and usual arch-rival Honda.

“This level between Honda, Ducati and Yamaha will change every weekend at different race-tracks because every bike has weak and strong points,” he said.

“To stay in front in the cham-pionship you’ll have to be con-centrated when it’s the right day for trying to win, but especially trying to keep some points on the difficult weekends at the difficult circuits.”(ap)

Dortmund played without central defender Mats Hummels and forward star Marco Reus, both injured, but took the lead in the 19th through defender Neven Subotic.

Kevin Volland’s volley from a corner in the 21st and Roberto Firmino’s chip in the 29th after being gifted the ball by Subotic turned the game to Hoffen-heim’s favor but Dortmund came out stronger after the break. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finally notched the equal-izer for Dortmund with a powerful header from a cross by Eric Durm.

B o t h t e a m s m i s s e d chances to win it within 90 minutes, before sec-ond-half substitute Kehl fired in the winner from 25 meters (yards) in the 107th. “I just blasted it. It was a drop kick and I was fortunate that it bounced inside off the post,” Kehl said. With the win, Dortmund retained its hopes of rescuing an otherwise poor season.

FLORENCE, Italy — Juventus overcame a first-leg deficit with a 3-0 win at Fiorentina on Tuesday to advance to the Italian Cup final and keep alive its hopes of a treble. Seeking its first Italian Cup trophy in 20 years, Juventus advanced on 4-2 aggregate. Filling in for the injured Carlos Tevez, Alessandro Matri put Juventus ahead from close range midway through the first half and Roberto Pereyra doubled the lead just before halftime by knock-ing in a rebound.

Leonardo Bonucci capped the victory with a volley inside the near post following a corner in the 59th. “We showed how strong we are to-day,” Pereyra said. “We won a com-plicated match in a tough stadium... We have a solid team and we always train well.” Napoli hosts Lazio in the other semifinal Wednesday follow-ing a 1-1 opening leg.

The final will be played in Rome on June 7. Juventus is cruising to-ward its fourth straight Serie A title and faces Monaco in the Champions League quarterfinals. “We’re going step by step,” Pereyra said. “Now we’ll focus on Parma and then the Champions League.” With nine Italian Cup titles, Juventus shares the record with Roma but has not

won the trophy since 1995.Tevez was ruled out during the

afternoon for precautionary reasons due to a right thigh muscle problem, and Matri was named as a surprise starter pairing with Alvaro Morata in attack. Mohamed Salah, who scored both of Fiorentina’s goals in the opening leg, was again danger-ous early on and had a goal ruled out for a foul five minutes in.

Matri took advantage in the 21st following a cross from Claudio Marchisio, with Pereyra’s initial attempt leaving his strike partner with only the goalkeeper to beat. Fiorentina came close to equal-izing in the 37th when Gonzalo Rodriguez had a goal disallowed for offside following a pinpoint header from a free kick. In the 44th, Pereyra found the target after goalkeeper Neto stretched to block a shot from Morata.

Fiorentina showed some life after the break but Mario Gomez wasted an opportunity by hitting the outside of the net and Bonucci soon sealed the comeback.

The only negative note for Juve came when Morata was sent off three minutes from time for a foul from behind on Alessandro Dia-manti. He’ll miss the final. (ap)

LONDON - Jack Wilshere is ready to make his return to first-team action after recovering from an ankle injury he picked up in November and the Arsenal midfielder is hoping he can make an impact before the end of the season.

The 23-year-old England interna-tional sustained the injury during Arse-nal’s 2-1 defeat by Manchester United in November and has since undergone two operations on his left ankle.

Wilshere played 90 minutes for Ar-senal’s under-21 side on Tuesday and hopes to play his part in the Gunners defending the FA Cup title, starting with their semi-final against Champi-onship (second tier) side Reading at Wembley on April 18.

“You can train as much as you like but you can’t get that match fitness un-less you play,” Wilshere told the club’s website (www.Arsenal.com).

“I feel like I’m ready to play some

part. When you’re injured you look at your comeback date and the games around that time.

“The one that stands out is the FA Cup semi-final but even before that we’ve got big games and we’ve got to got to Man United as well so there’s a chance to play this season.”

BIRMINGHAM, England — Christian Benteke scored a hat trick as Aston Villa twice came from behind against Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday to draw 3-3 and stay out of the relegation zone.

Benteke’s final goal came directly from a free kick in the 83rd minute of a thrilling encounter at Villa Park. Villa remains three points clear of the relegation zone where QPR sits in 18th place with six games to go, two points behind Hull.

In an action-packed opening 10 minutes, Matt Phillips’ headed opener for QPR was canceled out by Benteke, who then completed a counterattack to give Villa the halftime lead.

QPR responded after the break with goals from Clint Hill and Charlie Austin and was poised to climb above Hull and send Villa into the bottom three.

But Benteke came to Villa’s rescue with his seventh goal in five league games.

“The situation we know is hard now, every game is going to be crucial for us,” Benteke said. “We need to keep fighting until the end.”

QPR was in front in the seventh minute when Phillips met Bobby Zamora’s cross.

Villa levelled just 151 seconds later when Fabian Delph played in Benteke and the striker was given too much time to cut in from the left, with his shot deflecting off Steven Caulker and past goalkeeper Rob Green.

Villa recovered from the early set-back and was in control when Benteke grabbed his second in the 33rd. Carlos Sanchez’s tackle on the edge of his own box fell to Gabriel Agbonlahor to send Benteke clear. The Belgian still had to run the length of the half

but he cut inside Hill and sent Green the wrong way with a composed finish from 16 yards (meters).

Agbonlahor then glanced a header inches wide as Villa looked for a killer third but it never came and the home side paid the price 10 minutes after the break.

QPR had offered little threat since going behind but Hill headed in his first Premier League goal from Phil-lips’ corner after out-muscling Ciaran Clark.

The deflated hosts began to give QPR hope, and Austin scored in the 78th. Phillips was involved again as he wriggled free on the right and found the forward in space to strike under Guzan from seven yards.

But Charles N’Zogbia was fouled by Hill, and Benteke curled in a 25-yard free kick off the post and into the net. (ap)

MANCHESTER, England — Former Manchester United cap-tain Roy Keane will stand trial in June after denying being aggres-sive toward a taxi driver during an alleged road-rage incident.

The 43-year-old Irishman did not attend a brief hearing at Traf-ford Magistrates’ Court in Manchester on Wednesday but a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf by his lawyer.

Keane, who is assistant manager of the Ireland team, is accused of causing harassment, alarm or distress to taxi driver Fateh Kerar in January. Kerar says an altercation took place after he and his passenger noticed Keane, who was driving a Range Rover.

Keane’s trial at Manchester Magistrates’ Court is due to start on June 19. (ap)

Saturday.Tijuana officials said Tuesday that the club also punished Arango for his ac-

tions, but they did not say how.The referee and the rest of the of-

ficiating crew did not see the incident during the match in northern Mexico.

(ant)

Putin made his televised remarks at a meeting with visiting Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in the Kremlin.

(ap)

BUSINESS

(kmb34)

(ant)

DENPASAR - Director of Center for Environmental Re-search, Udayana University, Prof. I Wayan Arthana, Ph.D., said that the coastal and marine areas in Bali do not have spatial arrangement. Actually, there are many coastal and marine areas to be conserved.

(kmb32)

(rah)

(ap)

On Monday a Jakarta court dis-missed Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran’s challenge against the rejection of their pleas for clem-ency.

Indonesia’s legal chief then said they had exhausted all options to avoid the death penalty, but their lawyers insist legal avenues remain open.

“We are continuing to do every-thing we possibly can for them,” Abbott told reporters in Sydney in his first comments since Monday’s decision.

“That’s what we’re doing... Ev-eryone knows Australia’s position on the death penalty.”

Sukumaran, 33, and Chan, 31, the ringleaders of the so-called

“Bali Nine” drug trafficking gang, were sentenced to death in 2006 for trying to smuggle heroin out of Indonesia.

Their appeals for clemency, typically a death row convict’s final chance of avoiding the firing squad, were rejected earlier this year by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

In Monday’s ruling, the State Administrative Court upheld a decision that it does not have the authority to hear a challenge to Widodo’s rejection.

Abbott said he had spoken to the Indonesian leader again about the Bali pair.

“I’ve had a number of conversa-tions with President Widodo on this issue. I’m not going to go into what was said, but I have certainly made our position very clear,” he said.
