CONTACT US:
Milton Ulladulla Dog Training Club was formed in 1979 by a group of volunteers with a
keen interest in helping others train their dogs. The Club’s principles remain the same
today as all our committee and instructors are volunteers who have a lot of knowledge
which they enjoy sharing with you. The Club is not affiliated to Dogs NSW (ANKC) but
we do have members who compete in both Obedience and Rally O trials. The Club is
affiliated to ADAA for agility and several members compete in this discipline. Our
Instructors will be very pleased to assist anyone who has an interest in trialling their
dog to achieve their aim.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
We had a great day on 28th July celebrating the Club’s 40th anniversary. A big
thank you to everyone who helped with the organisation and promotion, both in
advance and on the day and thank you to everyone who came along and joined
in the fun. Special thanks to John Taylor for a DVD of videos and photos taken
on the day.
Our front page photo shows committee members Jan Lyall and Colleen Ringe who
travelled to Goulburn for the presentation of grant funding from the Veolia
Mulwaree Trust. The Trust has granted us funds to level the ground in the fenced
area alongside the Clubhouse which will greatly improve the safety of the area.
Work will be carried out during our Christmas break. We can now look forward to
next year when there will be no more bumps and hollows! My sincere thanks on
behalf of our Club for the excellent submission prepared and submitted by Jan
Lyall which resulted in our selection as a funding recipient. The total funding is
$6510 and Dog Club will contribute a further $4000 to complete the project. We
have been building funds towards this project for many years and it will be
amazing to see the work finalised and ready for our start back in 2020.
Pleased to say that our new arrangements for sharing Sundays with the Riders
groups have worked well. Thank you everyone for moving to the new parking
place which frees up the grassed area across from the Clubhouse for the horses
to warm up if required. Ulladulla Riders group hold between four and six events
each year and the Milton Show Society arena penning hold one or two events.
Dog Club does vacate the ground for the annual ASH Stock Horse event and so
there will be no dog training classes on Sunday 3 November.
Thank you Margaret

Happy Birthday to some of our doggie
mates. Diane’s pensioner Lady will be 15 years young in September. Lady
has recently had surgery and is doing well. Rosemary Rixon’s Cairn Terrier
Flynn is soon to be 13 years. Jean Pat-terson’s dog Ice celebrates his 5th
birthday and her dog Zip was 2 in August.
Ticks
As the weather starts to warm up we
need to check our dogs for ticks. How do I search my pet?
It is important to conduct regular
searches of your pet to ensure they are tick free. This is particularly important
after spending time outside. Stress makes the toxin work faster so if
searching for the tick is making your pet upset it is probably better to take it
to a vet immediately.
Search your pets thoroughly at least once a day. Use your fingertips to feel
through the animal’s coat. Ticks or tick craters can be felt as lumps on the
skin’s surface.
Most ticks are found forward of the front legs, especially on the face, neck
and ears. However, it is very important
to search your entire pet.
Start at your pet’s nose and slowly ex-amine the face, forehead and ears
(outer and inner surface of the ear flap). Also search the eyes and lips and
the skin/fur around the eyes and lips. Carefully examine all skin folds.
Remove any collars and search the neck area thoroughly including the
skin folds of the neck.
Continue the search, searching the shoulder area and then down the
shoulders to the front legs. Remember to check between each toe and under
surface of the front feet. Don’t forget
to check under the “armpits”.
Examine the chest area, all along the back, sides, belly, groin area, around
the tail and anus and the thighs, back legs, in between the back leg toes and
feet (including the under surface).
Snakes We have seen black snakes in the long grass in the area across the road from
the Clubhouse on the southern boundary of the Showground during
the warmer months and so please don’t let your dog run off leash in that
area.
