EASTER HAT PARADE AND HARMONY DAY

A wonderful rainy morning celebrating Easter and

Harmony Day! Thank you to our P & C for a yummy BBQ

and fabulous raffle.

A special thank you to all the community agencies who

provided information to our families. A HUGE thank you

to Woolworths at Jordan Springs for supplying fresh fruit

to everyone and a hamper for every class for Easter.

A MESSAGE FROM MISS BERWICK

We have had a wonderful bucket filling term 1 with all our students participating in

weekly music lessons as part of our incursion/excursion program. This provided an

opportunity for children to explore their musical passions and was supported by Mrs

Catalogne’s weekly lessons with the boom wackers.

During term 1 we celebrated Easter and Harmony Day, learning about cultures from

around the world. Stage 3 attended a live performance at The Joan in Penrith to

support their learning in Creative and Performing Arts curriculum. Each stage will have

an opportunity throughout the year to experience live theatre.

We continually update our Facebook page as the main source of

information and celebration for our school community.

Term 2 will continue to be a busy time for our bucket filling students. With yoga, road

safety and OBSTACOOL planned as part of our incursion/excursion schedule. Students

will be exploring and learning dance with Mrs Catalogna, History with Mrs Bruce and

Physical Education with Mr Horgan during the time teachers attend professional

learning each week.

As we head into the colder months we ask that children wear a black jumper/jacket as

part of our school uniform. We do have a school jacket available at Abel school wear,

but a plain black jumper/jacket is fine to wear. Our students are required to wear a hat

at all play times throughout the year.

Have a bucket filling holiday, be safe and remember; when you fill someone’s bucket-

it fills your bucket too!

MORNING ROUTINE Our school opens at 8:25am each morning, children should not enter the school before

this time. From 8:25-8:40am students are to sit on silver seats in Area B until the whistle is

blown to line up for morning fitness. On a Tuesday morning, weather permitting, we

meet in Area C from 8:25am.

LIBRARY GATE

For the safety of our students the library gate will not be open after school. Our school

will open the Preschool and front gate at 2:50pm each day. We kindly ask you to

respect this time when collecting your children at the end of the school day. Bikes and

scooters will be locked up at the front of the school near our flag poles.

BIKES & SCOOTERS

Students who ride a bike or scooter to school must wear a safety helmet.

Bikes and Scooters enter and exit via the front gate. If students do not follow

these school expectations parents will be notified and students will be asked

not to ride their bike or scooter to school.

2018 EXCURSION/INCURSION Term 2 payments are to be made by May 25. For students to

participate in OBSTACOOL payments must be up to date. Please see

Miss Berwick for a payment plan.

3 WAY INTERVIEWS In 2018, we introduced 3 way interviews twice a term. Every child has a Personalised

Learning Pathway which has a goal developed by child and teacher to work towards

achieving each term. Families will be able to book an appointment over 2 to 3

afternoons each term so that child, teacher and parent can celebrate the

achievement of the learning goal and reflect on where to next. Families of students

who are identified on the disability register, requiring an Individual Education Plan will

be given a specific time to meet with their class teacher each term in conjunction with

their 3-way interview. Invitations to book a time will be sent home mid-term.

HOME READERS Kindergarten to Year 2 students received a home reading pack in

the beginning of the year. We ask that this is returned twice a

week. Miss Michelle will change the books based on the reading

levels provided by the classroom teacher. Students in these years

will also receive sight words to learn at home to support their

reading development. If you have misplaced your pack please

speak with your class teacher for a new pack.

LIBRARY Our library is open every Thursday for borrowing and returning books with Mrs Bruce at

lunch time.

SEESAW Our teachers continue to explore the SeeSaw app to communicate your child’s

learning with you. Please speak with your child’s teacher for your child’s class SeeSaw

details.

CANTEEN Lisa continues to be our canteen manager on behalf of our P&C. This is

the main source of fundraising for our P&C and we ask you to continue

to support our canteen which provides quality and healthy lunch items

for our students. There is no credit provided and we encourage

ordering before the start of school.

OOSH (Out of Hours School care) Penrith City Council facilitates OOSH, every morning and afternoon from our Orana

room to provide quality before and after school care. If every Kingswood Park family

used this service at least once a week it will be a viable resource for the council to keep

open. Please see the ladies in the Orana room for more information or ring the council

directly on 4732 7844.

YEAR 6 FUNDRAISING Our Year 6 students fundraise daily by selling sweet treats (zooper doopers) for 50c at

recess time. Once a term they will also hold a mufti day and in the summer terms will

also hold dunking day. Money raised goes towards the cost of their farewell. In the past

years they have also paid for the end of year class parties.

P & C Our P&C meets on the first Friday of each month at 9am in our staffroom. Everyone is

welcome to attend P&C meetings where school decisions are often asked and agreed

upon.

MOTHER’S DAY BINGO We would like to invite all the special ladies

in our lives to our annual Mother’s Day bingo!

There will be plenty of prizes to be won. A

gold coin donation at the door to support

your P&C would be appreciated.

STAPLES BAG Each fortnight the team from the Staples Bag provide bags of groceries for $20 or $30 to

our school community. Everyone is welcome to attend, no need for a pension or health

card. This is a community service, we ask that you share this information with your family

and friends. They start at 1pm each odd week outside our Preschool.

ABEL SCHOOLWEAR Our school uniform shirts, dresses and jackets are available to purchase at Abel

Schoolwear. Abel has recently relocated to Unit 3, 2 Peachtree Road, Penrith (in the

same complex as TyrePower) and can be contacted on 4731 2388.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING Our school continues to have 3 expectations for our students; Being Safe, Respectful

Learners in all settings. Each term teachers use the below criteria to conference with

each child to determine if they have displayed school expectations to receive a PBL

award. This criteria is used for year 5 students to be eligible to nominate themselves to

be part of the student leadership team. Awards are presented to students at assemblies

twice a term.
