Kit Armstrong Kit Armstrong is an American-born, European based pianist and composer. Armstrong displayed remarkable early gifts for science and mathematics, studying physics, biology and chemistry at university level from before the age of 10. From the age of 12 he studied mathematics at Imperial College London and took a Masters Degree with honours in Mathematics from Paris VI in 2012. He studied piano and composition at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. Alfred Brendel has been his mentor since 2005. He has appeared as a soloist with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Philharmonia London, and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, among many others.

About Chorale“While my first piano album on the 2L label, Stone Rose (2007), was all pre-composed or outlined, I wanted its 2012 sequel Piano Improvisations to be completely spontaneous.

Chorale is a transcription of a free improvisation I recorded for that album. It was recorded in one take, with no preparation or preconceived thoughts other than an idea to improvise a piece that was a pure expression of what I felt in that particular moment – which turned out to be something very slow, warm and introspective.

Since the entire album consisted of improvisations, as well as fantasies over three existing pieces of mine, I wasn’t planning on releasing the sheet music to this album. But I kept receiving emails about a score for Chorale, so I figured that was a nice excuse to produce a transcription.” Ola Gjeilo

Our publishing schedule for the second half of 2014 will primarily focus on our choral activities. A series of anthologies will open up a wide range of new repertoire for choral directors, ranging from England and Scandinavia to China and the Baltic States. In addition we will be publishing a raft of new individual choral works from our burgeoning roster of choral composers, including Mike Shephard, Francis Pott, Sandra Milliken, Ola Gjeilo, Ben Parry and Jonathan Dove.

Excitingly the synergy between the Edition Peters Artist Management Company and Edition Peters continues to generate a whole new range of choral initiatives, and we can look forward to new publications from VOCES8, Apollo5 and Cantabile – The London Quartet.

However, Urtext publications of classical repertoire remains at the very top of our agenda, and we look forward to releasing the next tranche of volumes in our landmark series – The Complete Chopin: A New Critical Edition, towards the beginning of 2015.
