The CareerAdvancement Teamor C.A.T Program,

is C.R. England’s newestapproach to team driving! It has been designed tolaunch Lease Operatorsinto high gear with theirnew business, as well asprovide additional oppor-tunities for inexperienceddrivers to increase theirknowledge and under-

standing of the trucking industry. With 67 C.A.T.teams running at time of printing, we’ve seen verypositive results in the following areas: earnings

potential for lease opera-tor 1st seats,safety and per-formance, 2ndseat on-the-joblearning oppor-tunity.

Each teamconsists of a 1st

Seat LeaseOperator and a

2nd SeatCompanyDriver

driving together forfour weeks. Thiscombination pro-vides a strongerfinancial foundationfor both drivers whoare starting newpaths in theircareers, while allow-ing C.R.E. to staycompetitive withother carriers andhandle theirincreased demandfor team freight.

Lease Operators that have been with the company forless than 6 months are eligible to take advantage of thisnew program by becoming a 1st Seat on a C.A.T. team. This will allow an increase in earning power immediate-ly. C.R.E. pays all employee costs except for 10 cents permile, which is billed to the 1st Seat driver. Take homepay increases approximately $370 per week, when aver-age team miles are run.

The 2nd Seat drivers have the opportunity to enhancenewly acquired skills, develop a career path for thefuture, and increase wages through team miles. Once thefour weeks are completed, the 2nd Seat driver will be eli-gible to lease a truck, and become a 1st Seat.

What is the C.A.T. Program?

By Jim Macinnes, Independent Contractor Division

On May 10th we conducted our sixth‘Better Your Business’ call focusing onthe rising cost of fuel and things you can

do to reduce the single biggest expense anIndependent Contractor will face. The sessionwas hosted by Aaron Shepard, Manager of theNorth American Division and Jeff McGuire, C.R.England’s Fuel & Purchasing Manager.

Jeff emphasized using the Fuel Optimizer toget the lowest net cost of fuel regardless of statetaxes, using your Webasto heater in the winter toreduce idling and slo-o-o-owing down to increaseyour MPG. The majority of trips have plenty oftime, with proper trip planning, to run at 60-65mph and still deliver on time.

Aaron Shepard discussed tips and techniques toboost your MPG. Remember that with the fuelrebate, England’s pump discount and averaging6.0 mpg, your net cost per gallon will always bein the $1.05 - $1.31 per gallon range.

You can come in and get a recorded CD of thisconference call by seeing Justin Nelson x-6765 in

the IC depart-ment.

More tips canbe found in theLease SuccessGuidebook inchapters 6, 7 &8. CharlesSoper, fleet D-1is our winnerof the BlueBeacon truckwash!

There are fourphases of thisexciting pro-

gram. Phase one ranfrom Jan 31st to April4th. This phase wascompletely voluntaryfor drivers interestedin seeing the lease pro-gram up close and day-to-day with an existinglease operator.

We are currently inphase two, which runs from April 4th to August1st. This phase requires all apprentices comingfrom non-schools (other than C.R. England) toparticipate in the C.A.T. Program after complet-ing the upgrade process. After the 4-week pro-gram is successfully completed, the driver canlease his/her own truck, continue to team withthe lease operator as a company driver, or go soloon a company truck.

Phase three will run from August 1st toNovember 1st. This phase will require allapprentices from both outside and C.R. Englandschools to participate in the 4 week C.A.T.Program, following upgrade. During this phase, after the successful completion of the program, the driver will have the same three options tochoose from.

Phase four begins on November 1st. Duringthis phase all apprentices from any school will berequired to participate in the C.A.T. program fol-lowing upgrade. Following the completion of the4-week program, the driver will have the oppor-tunity to lease his/her own truck or stay as acompany driver by being a 2nd seat to a leaseoperator. At this point, a driver cannot elect to

be a company solo. IMPORTANT: This will notaffect current company drivers.

This program is a great way to support thosedrivers who have decided to lease and help kick-start their lease business. It gives new drivers theability to learn first hand from existing leaseoperators. As England brings these two conceptstogether, we can continue to assist our leaseoperators in their business success.

Detroit Diesel Fleet Performance Manager

As many of you are aware, we are again plug-ging into the data plug on the tractors atthe fuel center in the Salt Lake yard. This

new program, the Detroit Diesel FleetPerformance Manager, is a means of extractingfault codes (historic or present), speed, mileage, miles per gallon and other engine information. Asof May 16, 2005 we are fully functioning. Thismeans that any parameter setting on the ECMthat is not appropriate will be changed on allcompany and leased tractors.

What Will Your Legacy Be?By Thom Pronk, Director, Driver Retention

Thanks for theresponses to thisquestion. It seems

that there is an over-whelming majority whowish to have the old daysback. I heard from manydrivers that were remissabout the times whenthey used to see anotherEngland truck and knewthere was a commonbond. They were part of

the same fraternity and shared the same accom-plishments and chal-lenges. Most said they feltlike there was less and lessof this happening and thatif it were to return, moregood things would follow.

So what will your legacybe? Let’s remember thatwe are all part of the samefamily. Whether companydriver, independent con-tractor, payroll clerk, ordriver manager…we allhave the same goal; to make C. R. England and ourselves more successful.Take the time to recognize one another for thegood things we do.

I want to hear from drivers who have been herefor quite some time about what they want to passon to the new drivers, or “What is YourLegacy”. If we share information, each of us hasthe opportunity to carry it on and learn from it.

If you have something to pass on, please sendme a QualComm at ext. 3315 or call me at 1-877-602-1009. I look forward to hearing fromyou.

Bi-Lingual/Spanish Speaking

Program Taking FormBy Thom Pronk, Director, Recruiting & Retention

In the last few months, C.R. England’s Spanish Bi-Lingual Program has had four major develop-ments:

The fleet has grown to close to 60 drivers – We arevery happy with the growth so far, and hope it will con-tinue to improve.

We have teamed with Salt Lake Community Collegeto teach an English as a Second Language (ESL) classthat is designed to bring low level bi-lingual candidatesinto our program and teach them enough English in atwo week period for them to be successful and compli-ant as a C.R. England driver.

We have hired a Spanish Language TransitionCoordinator, Craig White, who is responsible for assist-ing our new driver candidates and our office staff indealing with challenges arising from the language bar-rier.

We have started educating/recognizing Spanishspeaking employees by sending basic Spanish lessonsover e-mail, giving “Se habla espanol” placards toSpanish speaking employees, and looking at additionalclasses to teach Spanish to other office employees.

We are very excited about the direction this programis headed and hope that you will be a part of it. If youhave any questions or know any individuals interestedin the programs, please direct them to:

Alberto Ortiz ext 3843 -RecruitingCraig White ext. 5782 -Spanish Language Transistion CoordinatorGabe Subia ext 6628 -Driver Manager Fleet F1Frank Borunda ext 5721 -Driver Manager Fleet F2

Please get the word out. We feel we can offer thissegment of the driver market great opportunities tosucceed as an OTR truck driver.
