Hybrid systems are a class of complex systems involvingboth continuous systems and a set of discrete events. Theyexhibit complex phenomena as the continuous systems andthe discrete events coexist and interact with each other.Thereare many hybrid systems that arise in a variety of disciplines. For example, in the manufacturing industry, componentsare fed into a machine following a specified procedure. Theprocess of the machine is continuous, while the startup of themachine is a discrete event. Thus, the overall system is clearlya hybrid system. As an important class of hybrid systems, switched systems can model the hierarchy and switchingstructures of a complex system. Engineering examples can befound in chemical processes, air traffic management systems, and computer communications systems, and so forth. How-ever, till now theory and methodologies of switched systems,in particular, involving complicated structure characteristics, still need to be investigated further.
In “Stability of a Class of Stochastic Nonlinear Systemswith Markovian Switching,” output feedback stabilizationof stochastic nonlinear systems with Markovian switchinghas been investigated using the backstepping design methodand homogeneous domination technique. In “Research onAdaptive Dual-Mode Switch Control Strategy for VehicleMaglev Flywheel Battery,” dual-mode adaptive hybrid con-trol has been presented based on𝐻

displacement feed-forward compensation control. Further-more, a real-time switch controller has been designed aswell. In “Study on the Dynamics of Local Pressure BoostingPneumatic System,” dynamics of local pressure boostingpneumatic systems has been studied by modelling them
as switched systems. Moreover, optimization problems ofthe local pressure boosting system have been solved aswell. In “A Lower Extremity Exoskeleton: Human-MachineCoupled Modeling, Robust Control Design, Simulation, and Overload-Carrying Experiment,” a robust 𝐻

method and a switched control algorithm have been devel-oped for hydraulic actuators in human-machine coordinatedmotion. It shows that the proposed robust controller canimprove the robust stability and performance under thestructural and parametric uncertainty disturbances. In “AMultiobjective Genetic Algorithm Based on a Discrete Selec-tion Procedure,” a multiobjective genetic algorithm has beenstudied and applied to identify optimal solutions with betterelitism and diversity metrics. In “Infinity Period DynamicControl of a Kind of Channel’s Price and Brand Investment: ADifferential Game Method,” infinity period dynamic controlof distribution channels has been considered using a differ-ential game approach. It includes four differential dynamiccontrol models: coordinated static games, uncoordinatedstatic games, Stackelberg games with controlledmanufacture, and Stackelberg games with controlled retailers. In “Devel-oping a Robust Strategy Map in Balanced Scorecard ModelUsing Scenario Planning,” a strategy map-based methodhas been developed for environmental scenarios and a newmethod has also been proposed to decide the robustnessdegree of the strategy map for every scenario’s contingency. In “Virtual Clutch Controller for Clutch-to-Clutch Shiftsin Planetary-Type Automatic Transmission,” an equivalentmethod has been proposed to control automatic transmissionlike dual clutch transmission by adopting the torque ratios

of oncoming clutch and offgoing clutch of each gear. In“Construction and Application Research of isomap-RVMCredit Assessment Model,” cutting-edge algorithms, appliedisometric feature mapping, and relevance vector machine(RVM) have been studied to classify assessment and furtherimprove the accuracy of credit assessment methods. In “TheStudy of a Mathematical Model in Information Acquisitionand Disclosure,” a mathematical model with a decision-maker and an expert has been analysed to obtain the expert’sinformation acquisition and disclosure strategy.
The aim of this special issue is to report the recentresearch progress and advances on all issues and topics relatedto complex and switched systems and their applications. Wehope that this special issue will be beneficial to scientists, researchers, and practitioners in all disciplines, particularlyin various application areas.
